He's lacking power because he's fighting 24 pounds above the weight class he started at. At 130, 135 and 140, Mayweather had very, very good power. No they do not, because Floyd is the most skilled boxer today and that's what he is going to do to Oscar - outbox him. You are wrong! It does affect his options especially if he doesnt have just enough power to keep Oscar honest and keep him from using his physical advantages.

He wore "Grant" gloves for his Baldomir fight, which are a little less protective from what I hear, and look what happened, he got injured. Floyd had good, not great power down in the lightweight division. He is fighting bigger boys now, he isn't going to have the same effectiveness. I would say he is more like the Evander Holyfield of power down in the lighter weight divisions, but now, not the same effect. I just wonder what is going to happen when he has to wear "Reyes" when he fights Oscar.

Oh that was never a weakness at lightweight I totally agree with you there. Everyone has a ceiling for their power, for example Trinidad reached his at Middleweight, as did De La Hoya. James Toney didn't hit the ceiling until he reached heavyweight. Floyd reached his ceiling at 140 lbs despite his TKO victories over Bruselles, Gatti and Mitchell. Once he hit the ten stone mark he lacked pure pwer and had to rely on volume more than pop. It's really all about what tools you have in the box and Mayweather still has a considerable arsenal with his speed, technique and boxing instinct. At 140 and above he doesn't have the pop, so more and more you'll see Floyd relying on his bike.

Also don't forget that while power may not be necessary against a lot of fighters, for some of Mayweather's peers their only weakness has come about when their opponent has managed to back them up. Hatton and Cotto won't bother trying to box from range against Mayweather. They'll attempt to rough him up and knock him out and if Floyd can't move away (and both these fighters are very good at cutting off the ring and closing the gap) then his inability to hurt and back up these fighters will be a major weakness. His lack of power could be truly telling. Having said that Mayweather is an excellent fighter at close range. But against infighters like Cotto and Hatton he will be at a tactical disadvantage if he is forced to fight that way.
