Now that Marquez moved up and beat a very good, very dangerous opponent like Vazquez, will some of you dummies give him respect? This guy has been one of the 5 best p4p fighters in the sport now for quite some time but a large portion of this board failed to recognize that in any way. The guy is a damned good fighter and just gave a great performance in a FOTY type fight. He's certainly in the p4p class of guys like Winky Wright, Manny Pacquiao and Marco Barrera.
Miguelito failed to stop Urkal but he certainly tried to. Urkal took some nasty shots to the body and head (that uppercut was crazy) but he proved he was a durable, game opponent. I thought Urkal would only last 8-9 rounds tops and he proved me wrong. Obviously all of that ridiculous headbutting had something to do with his survival, but he definitely got inside of Cotto's head with those Casamayor-espue tactics. Cotto was really composed until that moment where he picked Urkal clean off his feet though. I think we'll see a more calculated Cotto against Judah...Miguel tasted Urkals power and knew that Urkal had nothing for him. It'll be a different story come Judah time though. Miguels defense looked good through the first 5 rounds. He'll need to turn in a better performance next time he fights...but the kid keeps on winning.
Miranda definitely won over another fan with perfomance last night. I was kidn of indifferent to him before but dude really just comes to fight. We got to see the difference between a hyped fighter like Green and a hyped fighter like Miranda. Green was so hesitant and was pretty much in survival mode for some reason...Miranda didn't care if he took some punishment to give out his own. Jermain Taylor better watch the fuck out...same with Abraham. Even if he doesn't beat thsoe guys he'll give em a big time scare and a run for their money. Now that Green lost like that...will some people write him off as nothing special like they did Quintana after Cotto beat that ass? Same circumstances...
i was rooting for IV (I consider as the best at 122) to win but i guess he lost to a better man and i hope to see the video soon ...
and the first thing that comes to my mind, for the meantime "boom boom" stay away from RAFA ... lets test Ponce first ...
second thing what about a RAFA vs Ponce de Leon?? giving me goosebumps...
third thing ... maybe this is far off and a lot of ifs and maybes, can Rafa go up to 130? to avenge JMM loss to Pac at pac-jmm2 (this one of the ifs and maybes)
he's the biggest p4p puncher in the sport
No, Pac is the hardest puncher in boxing P4P.

You said it. Even though thats not really a knock, I mean someone who doesn't know what the fuck tehre talking about would consider it a knock, but he's been fighting very tough guys and blowing them out. He can box and he's the biggest p4p puncher in the sport
What can his haters say now?
Manny Pacquiao would beat him :sombrero:
Yep. The knock on Marquez was that he was just sitting in his weight class, beating a bunch of solid mandatories, avoiding the top level fighters in higher weight classes.
Funny how when he goes up and beats the top dog in the next division, there is little praise (like you said) because people were hung up on the way the fight was ended.
Eh, a stoppage is a stoppage. Vazquez doesn't stop there and he gets decapitated somewhere in the next few rounds. He had nothing for that right hand.
Marquez hasn't lost in 6 years or so. He has beaten and STOPPED just about every dangerous opponent around the bantamweight limit. It's crazy that this kid can't get more love.

but this is a p4p guy beating a champ who was on the cusp of p4p,I think that deserves more mention that just this thread.
Exactamundo. If you weren't ignorant to the lower weights you understood that Marquez was already an elite fighter and Vazquez was right up there with the top 15 fighters in the sport. Vazquez was coming off wins over Gonzalez, Hernandez and Larios...he showed he was a durable guy and a threat to anyone around his weight.
Rafaels win should certainly spark discussion about him being one of the 3-4 best fighters in the sport.

exactly......
Nope everyone knows Marquez is the man,hes been around a long time, people are just happy to see someone new like Miranda make noise in the middleweight division,IMO Marquez and Vasquez put on a FOTY candidate,i said this earlier,Marquez is very exciting, with solid power, and it was a great win,i cant wait for the rematch

I was close to making a thread about Marquez. I dont get why he isnt getting any props for what I thought was a wonderful performance. He made a statement in round 1. He busted Vasquez' face up early.
Its weird, I dont see any praise for Marquez, even though he moved up to fight the champ in his first fight,it seems like people were ready to be allover a Vasquez victory.

I think the fact that Vazquez was regarded by all as one tough SOB and ended quitting took a lot out of Marquez's victory. It was a very close fight in my book until the time it was stopped, I had Vazquez up by a point.

Miranda has won me over as a fan already,IMO his boxing skills are underrated,he uses his jab alot,he moves his head alot,he squats down, hes not the best boxer but hes still got some skill, yesterday he was in with a tall powerfull super middleweight,Miranda had him out on his feet and 1 second away from TKO'ing him,he got up from the knockdown like it was nuttin and went back at him,hes a beast,i think hes won over the Puerto Ricans too, they were goin wild at the end of the fight
In regards to Cotto: I think that he gave a good performance, and that credit should also be given to Urkal for taking those monster body punches.
On Miranda: I was already a fan, but last nigh he proved one more thing:That he has a good chin.
