Come on folks, lets have a huge discussion about these three scraps.
Are these three scraps the best we'll ever see? I rated Coralles -Castillo over these before last week, but after scrutinising these three fights for the last week, I'm rethinking.
Debate, folks...

number 1 and 3 were really good with 1 being the best
the thing about the second one was i couldnt believe Ward lasted the whole fight. there is no way the fight should of continued when Ward got dropped by Gatti. when the ref asked him if he was ok and he said yea his eyes rolled back and he proceeded to take a beating. and then as the beating was taking place Gatti looked at the ref pretty much pleading him to stop the fight and right as he did that Ward told gatti to keep hitting him.
I'll remember that moment in the second fight more then any moments in the first and third.
ame when i showed my non boxing fan mates! It actually converted a few from NON fan to FRINGE fan
As I always say, ever want to convert a few NON fans, throw on Gatti-Ward 1. They'll be back for more.
I got a friend hooked on the fight game with Gatti-Robinson 1 years ago.
Reason I quote the Gatti - Micky fights as being so great is the adrenaline thing. The shher get up and fucking go to war thing. Micky never ever stopped coming forward, he was so old school. When Gatti banged him out in the third of the second fight, he waved Gatti on, telling him to come punch him. Gatti danced and punched hard for three fights, and just did the right thing, as well as inflicting an amazing amount of hammer on Ward...and that was the essence of the trilogy. Two guys, just going at it...we haven't seen it since...Maybe we never will.
Then you really need to watch more fights.
There's been NUMEROUS fights with guys doing what these two guys did. Throwing bombs and being tough as hell and making entertaining fights.
And plenty of them have been way more competitive than these two, when Gatti won about 80% of the rounds.
Just because HBO and the magazines hyperventalate over it and act like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, that don't make it so.
I have theese fights and was watching the first one on DVD along with some family members, They hadnt seen the fight because they dont watch boxing that much , They were pretty shocked and when round 9 came they reactions grew as they couldnt believe the stuff that was happening one of my uncles was all like what the fuck kind of brutal rocky movies stuff is this! they kept saying shocked that this looked like something out of the movies and that they should make the movie of the life of gatti and show this fight!, lol I was like yep pretty entertaining fight there ei! lol.
FYI, they are making a movie of Micky Ward. It's called The Fighter, and Mark Wahlberg is playing Ward. Comes out in 09.

I don't really see how it was a hard fight to score. Most of the rounds had clear winners. Gatti won the first 3 rounds, and the 4th was a close round. I can see it being 9-9 or a 10-8 for Ward. Ward stole the 5th round with that late attack, and Gatti won rounds 6 and 7 with boxing and movement. Ward again stole another round with a late attack in round 8. Round 9 was obviously Ward's, I can't call it 10-7 since Gatti won the middle portion of it for about a minute. Somehow Gatti regrouped and won the 10th.
It's the 4th round that has me either giving it 95-93 for Gatti, or 94 even. That was a close round.
I also thought Frank should have stopped it in round 9 while I was watching it live, but it wasn't stopped due to Gatti's rep and Frank's apparent senility. Ultimately it was better that the fight wasn't stopped, but when I was watching live I was worried for poor Arturo. He was getting pummeled!
Thats how i had it - I think! I watch it all the time but dont even think about scoreing anymore just enjoy the war!!! There were no losers there

A thing i love about that fight is how everyone scores it differently and i keep changing my scorecard everytime i see it, currently i have it a draw i think.

Plus, Ray Robinson was had a few trilogies and even some quadrilogies (is that the correct word?) that were blood and guts and obviously had titles on the line.
He had a quadrilogy with Fullmer and six fights with LaMotta.
What's the word for a set of six?
I'm biased toward Ward just cuz I'm such a huge fan of his. But I wont say the trilogy was the greatest ever. I'd probably rate Ali-Frazier trilogy as better. I'm sure we can probably name 3-4 trilogies that can be argued were better. But it has to rank among the top five TRILOGIES. Now, as far as individual fights, you're hard pressed to find many fights bether that Gatti-Ward I; The second fight showed Ward's heart to keep fighting back, even though he was being schooled by Gatti. The thrid fight showed Gatti's heart and resilience by coming back from the knockdown and winning the fight with a broken hand. Overall, it was a GREAT trilogy, one of the better ones in the history of the sport. But we've had trilogies that have matched or come near the blood and guts war of Gatti-Ward AND had a bigger significance as far as an impact to the sport. Holyfield-Bowe had the heavyweight title at stake, as did Ali-Frazier (and that was 15 rounds, compared to the 10 rounds Gatti-Ward was). Plus, Ray Robinson was had a few trilogies and even some quadrilogies (is that the correct word?) that were blood and guts and obviously had titles on the line.
But Gatti-Ward will be rememberd as one of the greats, imo. Hell, if it's something that can be argued, than that should mean that it has some merit to be considered, no?
Gatti-Ward 1 is the best fight ive ever seen. Must have watched it about 30 times now. The amount of respect i have for those two is immense, ive never two men go at it like that before and not sure if i'l see it again. A thing i love about that fight is how everyone scores it differently and i keep changing my scorecard everytime i see it, currently i have it a draw i think. The second fight may have been less competative but still good stuff and the 3rd is a cracking fight imo.
White guys always overrate Gatti-Ward.
I don't know what skin color they are but people do overrate it when they talk about "it was the greatest trilogy ever" and stuff like that.
NO NO NO. The thing that was so great about Gatti-Ward I was the power of both guys wills. For the first few rounds, neither guy wanted any part of the others guys game.
But eventually, Ward wore him down and forced gatti into a war.
It was Brilliant. The most beautiful war i have ever seen.
GATTI-ROBINSON was a slugfest, an outstanding fight, but its no match for GATTI-WARD I
There was so much going on, OTHER then the non stop eb and flow of the fight. Each guy trying to impose there wills on their opponents.
Neither guy taking a break, flush shot after flush shot.
The damage both guys took was unlike anything i have ever seen before.
Undoubtedly the greatest fight ive ever been alive to watch.
Anything that gives you CHILLS everytime you watch it, is somethin truly great.
Fucking great post...

Gatti-Robinson I had more consistent action and better skill level.
Gatti-Ward I had more turning in tides and a better atmosphere.
Gatti-Ward I wasn't even the best fight Gatti was in.
Gatti-Robinson I was better. The steady action was more consistent throughout.

i agree with yuu when you mention the gatti-ward trilogy being grweat, but i completely disagree with you regarding the 3rd fight between morales and barrera, morales was not a shot fighter at all, when they fought and he was at the top of his game and was comfortable at 130lbs and many people were not even giving barrera a chance because of his recent loss to pacquiao and the way morales was looking as a fighter coming into that 3rd fight.
barrera and the morales trilogy for me was better in the sense that as well as all 3 fights being action packed, they were also very close, all 3 fights were very close, if we take all 36 rounds of barrera and morales, barrera possibly only wins that trilogy by 2-3 rounds at the most. the only close fight in the gatti-ward trilogy was there first fight in my opinion.
Props
Good reply.
Thank you.
Ian
White guys always overrate Gatti-Ward.
Fuck off.
What kind of statement is that?
Do you still think we fucking lynch black folk?
Get out of the fucking mould, dude. That is so much of a stupid statement. Politically incorrect, and so plain stupid
