First off I am no fan of Audley and couldnt even tell you his record without boxrec. I know their our fighters that we dislike sometimes and want to see them lose because of the fighters fans(or cause of the fighter). But I have respect for any man that steps into "those dark shadows of a ring"(Teddy Atlas). As everyone on this board knows, nobody "plays boxing." You play baseball and football, but not boxing. So anyone who actully gets into that square circle has guts.
Bottem line, we shouldnt hate any fighter. I like em all, even Buster Douglas. And I know at least one or two posters here are probley very hurt over this fight. I know I would be broken if I had seen Tysons last two fights. Audley Harrison may not be a Lennox Lewis, but to someone he's their hero. In our sport we sometimes see out heros beaten down, that dont happen in the other sports. A loss is just a game in basketball or hocky. But it can be tough to witness a "loss" in boxing, perticulary when it's your hero being counted out.
People think Audley boasted a bit too much and that is the only reason i think people dislike him. I wasnt one of them though. Maybe he will be a bit more respectful of opponents and what they can do to him in future.
I guess i do respect him, but i guess im just mad at him for not making use of his potential. He's one of those guys that has it to make it big, but doesnt want it. I agree though, no professional fighter should be HATED.
Using the old "we should respect anyone who steps into the ring" is all well and good, but we aren't here to suck everyones asses, we're here to have favourites and least favourites, and it doesn't matter what they do, the whole point of us being here is to either be in delusional support of our favourites, or talk alot of shit about the fighters we don't like.
I hate Audley Harrison with a passion, I was in denial when he beat Danny Williams down, and wouldn't admit that he actually put in a good performance for once, and when Michael Sprott KO'ed him last night I celebrated more than when Ricky Hatton beat Kostya Tszyu.
I don't respect him at all, the arrogance he shown long before he even challenged for a national title, the attitude like he didn't/doesn't care about the fans etc. I hope he makes YET ANOTHER comeback and fights someone with a losing record and gets KTFO.
I never said you had to like him, just respect him.
