In the first 5 rounds vs URANGO, Hatton clinched less then MOSLEY did in the first 5 rounds against collazo... undoubtedly actually.
I personally dont have a problem with mosleys clinching at all. He doest do it that often and he does it after a great combination.
But ingnoring hattons misrable and horrendously boring 2nd half against URANGO, Hattons clinches are quicker, and he more often then not frees himself from the clinches.
Mosleys clinches are long and the ref always seperates them.
Again, it wasnt that bad because he didnt do it that often, but he did clinch more then hatton did in those first 5 rounds of each fight.
I guess its just MORE proof of the HATTON hate on this forumn, which is completely uncalled for and there is almost zero reason for...
Well fuck me. It didn't look that bead to me, but I don't tally punches in my head while I watch.
Collazo did land some nice clean punches early in the fight but when he went down on points instead of throwing more he got more nervous and cautious.
Here are my 2 cents, I think mosley did dominate Collazo. I can't find more than 2 rounds to give to collazo. So by winning 10 rounds, in my book that is domination.
Kball stole my thread. lol I rewatched and marked down both fights. Here is the numbers.
I have 97 times where the ref had to break up the Hatton fight.
I also have 94 times where Hatton purposely tried to clinch. (Urango did a tiny bit of clinching too)
I have 70 times where the ref had to break up the Mosley fight
I also have 58 times where Mosley purposely tried to clinch.
wow.
not good numbers.
I don't know about 'dominated', which is a pretty strong word. I've watched it twice now and I was more impressed with Collazo the second time. He is slick and was more accurate than Shane was. Of course Mosely won by a wide margin but a lot of Shane's rounds were fairly close. Collazo did not discredit himself. He fought decently enough against a HOF opponent.
Collazo landed 14% of his punches...
I thought Mosley dominated Collazo & discouraged him. I really don't like punch stats but according to Compubox Mosley landed 33% of total punches (200 landed) compared to 14% (87 landed) for Collazo. Mosley also landed 46%of power shots (173) to 19% (67). Mosley had Collazo hesitant to let his hands go more because he was eating hard counter right hands & left hooks. As far as the clinches go, I didn't really notice because there was constant action. Whereas in recent Hatton fights it gets really annoying watching him go clinch alot unnecessarily.
Bro u got some serious time on ur hands...
Who gives two flying fcuks though really..
Hatton clinched the life outta Urango and mosley looked good.
Case closed

Well Mosley did dominate Collazo last night and he, basically had Hatton out on his feet, and probably deserved the nod when they fought.. Without question Mosley dominated Collazo. Mosley would knock Hatton out, but that won't happen since Collazo scared him back down to 140.

Ricky Hatton will never get the respect he deserves around these forums for many reasons including, but not limited to: the fact that he's British, the fact that he's white, the fact that he's unbeaten, the fact that he's not Floyd Mayweather Jr.

I think the complaining about Hatton is a hangover from the Tszyu fight. You can't complain about how he fought Urango at all really, except that he put it on cruise control with a few rounds left.
THe whole "decent opposition" argument is completely irrelevant because he fought most of his fights in his native Country. Most boxing fans don't keep tabs on fighters without credible mention outside of their native Country. If it weren't for Hatton beating Tsyzu, and Calzaghe beating Lacy, the U.S. would still be in the dark in regards to Hatton and Calzaghe.
Your opinion of "decent opposition" is yours and yours alone, and you're entitled to that. But to discredit Hatton for not being able to get big fights in the U.S. until now is utterly moronic.
As for his style, you'll never hear me argue that Ricky Hatton has a crowd-pleasing style.
The thing is, Hatton does have a crowd pleasing style, he's just lost the zing (for want of a better word) to keep that style since the Tzsyu fight. If he winds back the clock against Castillo the mexican will be in big trouble. The more I watch Hatton-Tszyu the more I think it is one of the best performances by any boxer of the past few years.
The problem in Hatton-Urango was that the entire second half of the fight was made pretty dull by the tactics Hatton used. I know it was a smart thing to do but it did ruin what was a clinic for the first 4 or so rounds.
The thing is, despite the clinching, some of the posters who know their boxing on this forum admitted that Hatton would be a vv tough fight for anyone at 140 on the evidence of the first half of the fight.
Ferocity springs to mind, but there were others I'm sure.
There is Hatton hate on this forum, but tbh it usually comes from people who've built up little respect on here and whose opinion is straw-weight at best. Those people probably have no idea how stupid they come across to everyone reading these forums!
i love watching hatton fight. but you have to understand that shane is much older- but regardless he still doesn't clinch nearly as much as hatton. the reason people give hatton shit about his clinching is because he's all about rough housing and being scrappy as hell- and he beat kostya using those tactics in a fight where a lot of people couldn't fucking believe what they were seeing hatton get away with. when shane clinches its only to cap off good combinations and it isn't nearly as ugly as hatton's style of clinching.
shane is in and out with flashy offense and hatton is in- throw a bunch of awkward inside shots- and keeping throwing them and then punch on the break. there's a difference.
i'm not hating on hatton- but shane's offensive technique is much more aesthetically pleasing and entertaining to me. hatton is a great fighter, his win over kostya will always be bitter-sweet to me but he's a really really great fighter. can't stress that enough.
Glad to see that lack of decent opposition and style dont factor into any of this.

oh, and mosleys also 35.
gotta give the dude some credit being smart and conserving his energy, espicially with the possibilty of him being weight drained.
im not saying he doesnt deserve credit. U physically SHOULDNT be able to fight like that at 35, especially when people were calling washed up over 2 years ago.
It has to be one of the great comebacks of this generation.
But, there is absolutely no complaining, where as there is a ton of complaining w/ hatton who clinches LESS in those first 5 rounds.
And those first 5 rounds were exciting
