On The Table For Team Peter: $2.5 Million Step Aside, $3 Million As Purse To Fight Maskaev-Klitschko Winner!
After a four-hour midtown Manhattan law office "informal mediation" session Wednesday night, the answer is that the question has yet to be resolved.
The mediation was presided over by WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman. Maksaev promoter Dennis Rappaport said. "Bernd Boente (Vitali rep) was not at the meeting." The pretty Peter package, which Peter's co-promoters Dino Duva and Don King and manager Iyavalo Gotzev are mulling over as you read this is:
A step aside fee of $2.5 million to allow Vitali and Oleg to fight in Moscow in May; a written guarantee from Maskaev, Vitali and the WBC that no one will get between the winner defending against Sam Peter immediately and a 50-50 purse fee split which will guarantee Peter another $3 million to fight the winner in September.
Rappaport said it would be "outrageous" if Peter's reps do not accept such a financial package.
"Don't they owe it to their fighter to advise him to take this? Sam Peter could be independently wealthy for the rest of his life, he could live off the interest on this," Rappaport said. "How in good conscience can they turn down the $2.5 million to wait one month for the mandatory? They say their fear is that, if Vitali wins, he would not fight Peter. If they turn this down, it will be the worst business decision in boxing history."
Here are some facts as Maskaev and Klitschko continue to press the WBC to allow them to fight each, probably in May in Moscow using the organization's "champion emeritus" except which was granted to Vitali when he retired with his title belt due to knee surgery.
Fact 1. Maskaev promoter Dennis "The Menace" Rappaport sounds like a broken record but he is right in saying that Maskaev could make Peter wait for a title at least until August 12.
Fact 2. Peter would collect $5.5 million guaranteed and could make even more if Vitali knocks off Maksaev.
Fact 3. Would it kill younger man Peter to wait 30 days for his title shot? Is he afraid the WBC might start issuing some more "champion emeritus" free passes to mandatory title shots?
So should Peter grab the money and run? Or should he go to court to fight on?

Dennis The Menace Blasts Sam As “Four Or Six Round Fighter”

Johnny Carson always joked about his high-powered fictional attorney, Bombastic Bushkin. Believe me, Bushkin had nothing on Oleg Maskaev promoter Dennis the Boxing Menace Rapport a/k/a/ Rapstar. Not content with verbally ripping top WBC heavyweight contender Sam Peter's advisory team of Don King, Dino Duva and Iyavalo Gotzev, Rappaport also has some choice words for the big African puncher..
"Some people are making him out as the second coming of a young Mike Tyson and that is balderdash," Rappaport said from his high-rise Long Island penthouse Thursday.
"A motivated Oleg Maskaev will destroy this guy. I'm tired of people giving Oleg the Rodney Dangerfield treatment. Oleg beat a rugged Hasim Rahman straight up and that is better than anything that Peter has ever done in the ring.
"Sam's boxing technique...well, let me say there is a lot to be desired. He is strong but his best punch is one behind the head. Really, he has all the technique of a four or six round fighter," Rappaport said. "He's not a pure puncher like Gerry Cooney was by any means."
"Against Wladimir Klitschko, Sam decked Wlad decked Sam three times but Sam still lost the decision quite decisively. He goes the distance with poor Robert Hawkins. We use Robert as a sparring partner of last resort in our camp. Of course Oleg knocked Hawkins out in three rounds when they fought."
Rappaport sees little merit in Peter's pair of victories over James Toney.
"First fight, no doubt Toney won it clearly. Yes, James had a belly like Buddha but he had hand speed. Then they bring in Billy Blanks to help James. Blanks was with Ray Leonard (Hector Camacho) the only time Ray ever got stopped. Blanks had James eating lima beans and he was a dead man walking in the second fight with Peter. So much for Blanks and the lima bean diet for heavyweight fighters!"
Don't sugarcoat it, Dennis. Tell us how you really feel about Peter.
......lol lol Lima bean diet.

Boy, this promoter can really talk some shit. Sam Peter may not be the most technically proficient boxer in the game; but what he lacks in skills, he makes up in chin, power, and endurance. What Rappaport is conveniently overlooking is that his figher has been KO'd on five different occasions.

What Peter should do is accept this. Then fight Shannon Briggs after Briggs defeats Ibragimov and try to win the WBO belt. This fight can be made because Shannon is promoted by King now so King can make this fight happen with no problems. If Peter fights Briggs in June and wins then a fight can be made between him and the Maskaev/Vitali winner in November. If all goes smoothly for Peter, 2007 can turn out to be the greatest year of Peter's life.
This will never happen, Peter will not fight unification fight. We've talked about it many times, there will be no unification as long as King holds his grip on HW champions. We had two champions wanting to fight but WBC (read Don King) did not allow it.
I dont think Peter has been paid more then 1.5 mil for a fight yet, I tihnk he was getting like 900 gees to fight Wlad. It would be really stupid of him if he doesnt agree to this...
Well it's not so simple. If you look at it from a purely business standpoint, there is much more to be gained from fighting Maskaev without Klitschko interference. The fight with Oleg will already get him a few pennies and, since this is a good matchup for Sam, the WBC title. He would not have to fight Vitali immediately, as he would likewise be permitted a voluntary (maybe in HIS home continent, where he could build a fan base of his own. Then we're talking this time next year, and Vitali may have lost interest/ health in the meantime.
There are only two or three bad matchups for this guy, VK being at the top of the list for having the MUCH strong chin in the K family. He could hold the WBC for a few years easily and thereby make more $$ than he would by letting Vitali beat him down for 5 mill this summer.
there is no way the wbc will give Peter a voluntary defense if they let him fight Maskaev next, Klitschko will either get his shot now or right after a Maskaev-Peter fight
If this is true and most of the money will go to Peter, than its an ok deal. Remember also that the 2.5 million is making up for the sanctioning fees that Peter (or his promoter) paid twice and the sanctioning fee he will have to pay in the future. so he is really getting about 2 million and after promoters, lawyers, and taxes he will probably get 1 million. But, either way I would take the million and wait as long as I have the mandatory next shot and either guy is going to back out. Peter could take a vacation, study tapes, and use a game plan.

Assuming that this report is correct, I have no doubt whatsoever that Duva will accept. They have spent little money training Sam Peter, and mismanaged his career like the Duvas usually do. What they want to do is make the most money off Peter the easiest way possible. They will take the guarantee, that is guaranteed!
If Don King get's in the way oF Peter, Peter should knock D King out of his senses. :D
Imagine getting $2.5 Mil without sweating and without losing your right to fight for the belt? $2.5 mil plus a guaranteed $ 3 Mil for the fight, that's a total of $ 5.5 Mil win or lose.
It does seem like a good deal, but I think the 3 mil. figure might be a little deceptive 'cause what it actually says is that Peter would recieve a "50-50 purse fee split which will guarantee Peter another $3 million to fight the winner in September." Its hard to tell what they mean here really, but it seems like the 3 mil. is contingent upon a joint $6 mil. purse, so say that Vitali wins the bealt and then retires, and then Peter has to fight the #2 contender for the title. So then what happens? What if the purses are only 2 mil? or what if there is some clause in the contract that this only applies to those 2 fighters, Oleg and Vitali? Just sayin the report seems a little unclear on this to me.
If Don King get's in the way oF Peter, Peter should knock D King out of his senses. :D

...It would take him 4-5 fights to see that kind of money if Vitali wasn't around and he bipassed this chance.
Don King will think twice because this way he's not getting that WBC belt that he wants. It's not up to Peter, it's only up to King.
Peter is not technically a King figher; he's a Duva fighter.
Peter should take the money then try to get a shot at one of the other belts while he waits for the winner of Maskaev-Vitali.
This would be the best plan of action because; 1) Peter doesn't lose any of his momentum(from his big win against Toney) by waiting around for the winner of Maskaev-Vitali; 2) he gets $ 2.5 less lawyer fees, promoters, etc.; 3) If he gets a title shot against Valuev or Briggs and wins then he would be in a great position to unify the WBO or WBA belts and the WBC belt.
However, this is the best case scenario, and everyone knows that the best case scenarios don't usually play out in professional boxing.:nonono:
