Why should American boxers always have an advantage? Shouldnt there be a rule that world title fights have to be evenly distributed around the world. So, if a guy holds the WBC title, he can first defend it in his hometown, then the hometown of his mandatory. Then he can go back home, then away again. It seems crazy that Las Vegas and New York are seen as the only places that a really big fight can take place. Why not Australia, or the UK, or France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Africa, the United Arab Emirates?! I mean, this is WORLD boxing, not US boxing. Boxing is dying and this would undoubtedly be a way to bring it to a bigger, global audience.
Apperently they don't teach Euro Trash how to have a sense of humor over there. You whiny bitch.
BTW, do you even know what the f### ironic means dumbass? Your use of the word is completely out of place. Maybe you should have attended an american school.
No tank you, i stay in europeen school. at lest there are not much psychopath who shoot people down like in the US
Hahaha, your entire understanding of politics has been taught to you by an ironic line from south park.
A dumb as fuck answer to what started off as a good thread, this is why trailer parks shouldn't be allowed internet access.

Interesting thread, with some good posts scattered like sweetcorn in shite.
To answer Anoraks question; shouldn't boxing be developing markets overseas so as to maximise revenues for fights not involving name US opponents - I think it's important to remember the difference between boxing and the majority of other sports. Boxing has no central body to look after the long term future of the game, instead the power lies withing sanctioning bodies that have little or no direct fan input, and promoters and fighters who are quite normally out for themselves. This works fine in the short term dimension, as fighters and promoters maximise their individual gain by fighting where the money is NOW, as has been pointed out by many posters. Where this falls down is in the longer term planning of the sport where some coordination and less myopia is needed. Boxing could indeed be bigger if it put on big events around the world as UFC is doing (I think). But there is noone in a position to want to make such a move.
Yet another piece of evidence that boxing needs a strong central body to avoid being usurped by yet more sports and eventually run the risk of being banned or going underground. (Ok maybe I'm being a bit melodramatic at the end, but it's not completely out of the realms of possibility).
At what prices, though?
I'm not too familiar with the site fees, but you can be sure that the Vegas casinos put up a ridiculous site fee to host a fight. Not only are their ticket prices a lot more expensive than the tickets for Hatton and Calzaghe in the UK, but the live gate is only part of the money that a casino makes during a big fight.
The cheapest seats at a big fight over here should go for around £40 (over $80) so quite expensive.
we'll see who can fill a football stadium and who cant!! hatton and calzaghe could get 60-000 people easily, cotto, mayweather, oscar de la hoya couldnt fill 30,000!!

A part of this post makes no sense. Why would the Champion or why should the Champion have to travel to fight a challenger? Thats part of the perks of being the champ. I think the Champion should fight in his home country however, Money plays a huge part too. Hosting a fight in the damn United Arab Emirates probably wouldn't generate as much revenue as let's say ummm Vegas. In fact, alot of title holders from foreign countries fight in their country until they want to make real money and lure some of the top grossing North American fighters. I know if I were the champ, I'd want to DEFEND in my backyard. That's why I'm the damn champ.
Uh if we screw outside fighters, then how did Trinidad get a W against De La Hoya?
The United States is the greatest country in the world. Great things happen here. End of thread.
You are just so stupid, it's good to be patriotic, but you must be blind, there are many other countries that are as good as the united states
we'll see who can fill a football stadium and who cant!! hatton and calzaghe could get 60-000 people easily, cotto, mayweather, oscar de la hoya couldnt fill 30,000!!
this debate about who goes and fights where or should be fighting where is as old as any debate about religion, politics, or abortion.
both sides have valid points but the end all be all is guys are going to fight where they get the most money, plain and simple. and when it comes to having world champs fight where? the promoters are going to see that their fighter holds onto the belt the longest because they want to milk it for more money. the promoters are the ones who call the shots when it comes to shit like that, they are the ones hoarding the belts and the fighters. no one wants to budge and no one wants to play fair or give a little and when one side does negotiate and does come to terms in going abroad anything short of a KO goes against the visitor unless it's just the beating of a lifetime.
all i'm saying you can't really blame the fighters, you have to put the focus and the pressure on the promoters and the people invloved in picking the site of the fight.
now as a whole unless you're a calzaghe or a hatton, or even kessler, mayweather, DLH, etc. you make great money fighting at home, but if you're not the idea is to come to the united states and try and make it big. universally that is what fighters are trying to do make it big, and in doing so they come to USA the land of opportunity, if you're not a star where you're from there is a chance to make more money here in the states as a whole then in other places around the world, and that's plain fact.
fighters leave their countries never to go back or even defect(obviously a good choice if you have to) to come and try and make it. thats what they try and do in the states more than anywhere else, is they try and make the next star. that is the main focus of all promotions here, they try to find the next big thing, and while that is happening people and fighters from all over the world come here to give it a shot. and since it's like that, that is why most of the stuff takes place in the US because there is money to be generated even in the beginning when guys are up and comers.
you have big fight cards here and other fighters try and make it on the undercard, it's like a comic being a feature, it's good to be on a big headliners show, even if you're opening up and only get 10 minutes of stage time, like getting a 4,6,8,10 round fight. if the big money and exposure fight card is going to be telecasted all over the globe wouldn't you want to be on it if you were a fighter? just for that little bit of exposure?
there just seem to be more exposure here in the states then in other place and supposedly the talent pool is better over here because this is where people from all over the world come to try and make it. just like the USA itself everybody from all over the world comes here and have been since the beginning of the country to try and make a better life because there is more opportunity...........................
The big fights are all being held in America because the american public are always willing to pay $50 (£27) for ppv cards regardless of their quality. Over here and in mainland Europe we're used to getting the big fights for free and the American promoters know that we won't stand for the type of shit that they pull over there.
didn't see your post, I agree.
This is a weird Circus we have over here.
Mike tyson was another guy that fought all over the world, thats why he has such a big following globally. Guys like mayweather, roy jones, dempsey, jack johnson, archie moore, joe louis. They are just popular in the US, thats it.
Mike Tyson is very popular in japan and the uk, when i went to India, many people over there knew him too.
Money dictates where you fight, however, I agree, you have to travel and you should travel to promote yourself and to promote the sport.
Fast money can be made in the States, but thinking long-term or the bigger picture; World-Wide-Fame can lead to lifetime career.
In "America", people can forget fast.
For Fighters:
Take easy fights if you have to, since money might also be less fighting overseas.
If I were a top fighter, I would probably have a bum of the month for fans to watch on regular television. It would make me look good because I would be knocking guys out, everybody likes a fight that is low cost/free, and my name would be known all over the World, which can lead to endor$ement$ the rest of my life.
I would see if it was worth having a fight that is more affordable to the public, without it taken a hit to my piggy bank.
If you are very popular, you could just hold it in a bigger stadium, although I am not sure how well you can see from a distance. I wonder how many people the Coliseum held
Just remember, most of the big fights were here in the States because of MONEY...this is or at least was the big stage.
unless im mistaken americanas are going overseas more and more, if the money is in europe then expect the trend to continue... everyone would benefit from guys from both sides traveling across the pond but instead its all this "roy jones didnt so why should i.. darius Mc didnt so why should i... im doing great over here people love me.... why do i need new fans?"
