The Corrales is fight is one of the fights is one of the matches I was hoping for and speculating in the last couple months to be Gatti's last battle. And as of the reports the last couple days it looks like that fight has the inside track so far
Since Gatti has one more fight on his HBO contract, he is honoring it and fighting one last time. AND it SHOULD BE his last time, win or lose. Gatti's manager Pat Lynch has expressed the same feelings. This is so Gatti can go out a winner, since he can no longer fight for a world title (too small for 147, and cant make the weight at 140).
Diego is an intresting match - up both fighters have lost 2 of their last 3 fights (Diego 2 in a row). I believe the weight can have a small part in the fight as well. But the biggest factor is the chin. Diego can be hurt and hurt bad, Gatti should be able to take advantage of it, but at this point in the year it is very questionable. So this fight is Gatti's biggest gamble but still very winnable.
Another opponet that has been thrown around is Dmitry Salita, Gatti would absolutely annilate this kid. Salita gets hit with right hands at will and Gatti will have a field day, this fight shouldnt last past 6 rds. Salita has a fight in March coming up so should he get past his TBA opponet which is very possible he cant, a fight with Gatti could be made.
Another outside shot for Gatti could be to take on the winner of the Estrada/Mattheysse winner, I duno if HBO would go for that but it has an outside shot.
i think you guys are all nuts. i think gatti, with a new trainer, will get rid of corrales in less than 8 rounds. no more mcgirt telling him " dont trade with him." "tap tap get out." "not everything has to be hard." "dont get caught up in the crowd." "dont get into a slugfest."
Mcgirt could have tyson and he would probably want him to box with mayweather. without mcgirt, gatti's gonna be a new fresh FIGHTER.
Gatti is in his mid 30s and has taken an insane amount of punishment.
He simply can't be a fresh new fighter after all that.
No Mcgirt Means No More Losses For Arturo

Gatti wouldn't beat Gatti at this point. He comes off of two brutal beatings, it's a repeat of vargas, mayorga and everyother B fighter that has been expose for what they've been all along: B Fighters
On another note, I have heard from several sources that Al Certo will be training Arturo Gatti for his July 14th fight. I had no idea who he was, but I found out he was Golota's trainer for some time and more notably during the Golota vs. Tyson fiasco where Golota refused to come out to fight in the early rounds.
Certo also used to train Buddy McGirt.
Too small is the truth my friend. Gatti's frame dosent carry 147 well, in all his fights at welter he has had trouble, De La Hoya, Hutchinson(had more to do with the 2 early headbutts than Joe's skills) and Baldomir. Even Damgaard gave him a little trouble in spots The facts r there. The guys r just too big, and Gatti's power isnt as effective
U act like Gatti is the only fighter ever to take advantage of fighting at a smaller weight. EVERY fighter does that. And as time goes on it gets harder to make that weight and they r forced to move up. Gatti started at lightweight 135 won a title then moved up to 140 and won a title and challeneged for one at 147. Look at other fighters weights, its very similiar
Actually Gatti started at feather I think, but he was always big for his weight classes. He outgrew all of them awhile ago. If he was such a small welterweight, how did he weigh in unofficially at 160 pounds for a junior welterweight fight, in 2000? He sure as hell hasn't gotten smaller since 2000. Gatti killed himself to make 140.
Gatti has had trouble in fights in every weight class he's been in. It's nothing new. Baldomir has an iron chin and simply outfought Gatti because he threw straighter punches and cut off the ring. Oscar is simply on another level than Gatti.
A gatti-corrales fight does seem very appealing i'd love to see him go out on a win and beating corrales who is a credible opponent and is very beatable seems perfect.
Also we cant really judge Gatti's power at 147 cause in his earlier days the Hutchinson fight the headbutts CLEARLY threw him off his game plan, DLH has a very solid chin and Baldomir's head is full of cement.
I remember Everlast sent me a catalog because I ordered stuff from their page and it had Gatti on the front talking about his last fight and who he wants to fight and he had said Miguel Cotto because he felt he could hurt him but his mind might have changed since then..
While it is obviously true that Gatti is a weak welterweight, Corrales is moving up a weight and will not be any better. It is difficult to move up in weight classes (as Hatton has seen), so I would give Gatti the benefit of the doubt for the fight since he has 4 fights at welterweight already.

Would people quit with the "too small for 147" junk that Jim Lampley was yapping about?
The guy has always been huge for 140, even weighing in unofficially at 160 pounds after a scheduled fight at 141 seven years ago.
The reason Baldomir whipped Gatti is because he was better. He threw shorter shots that reached the mark, between Gatti's wide hooks. And Baldomir has an iron chin.

As long as Gatti is marketable I doubt he'll retire, esp if he happens to win his "farewell" fight, he'll probably keep on fighting till he gets another pbf type bludgeoning. Isn't he financing a hotel or something anyway? Guess he needs the money somehow.
There are many wars out there in the boxing world. The reason he was able to show us those "great fights" was because of the exposure, if he were from alabama or arkansas he wouldn't have been as known. That said I bet he loses his "last" fight
I know a good Gatti fight: Gatti Vs Retirement. He was fully exposed by his last two fighters. Gatti was a mediocre fighter thats all, but Iguess being from NJ I guess helps.
Gatti vs. Corrales is pretty much pick 'em as far as I'm concerned.
Nice to see Ketchel in someone's signature BTW. The man always came across to me as the living embodiment of killer instinct.
