Out of the following middleweight contenders that fell victim to the great marvin hagler, which one is the best. Here is the list.
alan minter
mustafa hamsho
vito antuofermo
fulgencio obelmijas
john the beast mugabi
tony sibson
bennie briscoe
juan domingo roldan
wilford scypon
Briscoe......was the best, but was pretty far out of his prime.
I'd say Hamsho was really the toughest of that bunch....
My pick was Hamsho too; the guy could fight.
Hgaler at middleweight was better than robinson, ray was too inconsistent. he would win the world title and then lose it. Guys like turpin, lamotta, fullmer, basilio and pender all soundly defeated robinson. When was hagler soundly defeated? Oh yeah he never was, he arguably won his fight with leonard and many believe he was indeed the true winner in the fight against vito antuofermo. Hagler and monzon are the best at middleweight.
I did posts before a thread about Hagler and Monzon were greater at middleweight than SRR, mosts boxing historians always thinks of robinson as a god but on facts alone, he was inconsistent through during his middleweight reign.
Watch the Mugabi fight. It was one sided. Hagler slipped almost every punch Mugabi threw. It was clearly the Best beating the Beast. Mugabi went into that finght 26-0 with 26KO's, if I'm not mistaken.
Hagler didn't struggle with mugabi nearly as bad as people said, and jabbed him silly, but took some vicious body work in order to win.
both mugabi and hagler urinated blood.

I wouldnt say that it was totally one sided
I'll take John 'the Beast' Mugabi...on nickname alone.
He did give Marvin his toughest fight...
And yeah,I thought Marvin won that Antefermo draw also.
IMO its hamsho, just look at who he beat:
benitez
minter
cycyz
scypon
watts
and a bunch of solid contenders
Put hamsho in the 30's or 60s and he would have been one of those short term champs for sure. Better yet, put him in today's ABC champs era.
