Ive just watched Miguel Cotto's career, over the space of a few nights and ive decided (and not just coz im a huge fan) That Cotto has the beating of Floyd! Infact I'll pick him to beat any1 infront of him till the day he loses! :boxing:
Opinions and Haters welcome! :fuckyou:
no sir pbf won his first title @ 130 from GENARO HERNANDEZ in the 90s same weight division.............look 2 floyds resume closely you will probly agree with me.
Im not sayin ur wrong bud but If i can remember right They were at 126lbs when PBF was at 130lbs and they were at 130 when PBF was at 135. U could be right tho. Any way the point is COTTO destroys all!!! :boxing:

nahhhhhhhh youre buggin out I love floyd I aint no hater. but lets be honest pbf is only concerned with his legacy he went through alot of weight divisions but he didnt fight all the best.i.e barrera, morales, etc fought a drained diego and so on..........he is a buisness man just as much as a boxer.
Werent Morales Barrera ect below his weight class all the way thru, im sure they hav never shared a division, I could be wrong tho. He couldnt hav dropped a division back then like he could now. Yeah he is definatley a Buisness man like Oscar but look at there resumes they fight the best, Im sure a Cotto fight will happen if he beats Oscar, which is no formality!

pbf is amazing.....and I think cotto would get tagged VERY often against floyd but if cotto lands enough of those bunker busters I dont think floyds body would take it very well..............sh** I dont think anybody would.............Floyd was quoted by that grand rapids news paper saying "yeah we were talkin about making that fight along time ago.............but that was @ 140lbs"...............what do you think that statement means?
I actually wouldnt read to much into that, despite what the Margarito fans will tell u, I think Floyd will fight any1, if it makes sense, he is no coward. Thats my feel anyway!

All the same; I hope we have this question answered.
It's challenging to say Cotto would beat Floyd..
But, I'll not doubt a smart cat like yourself R1.
Well every1's entitled to an opinion bud, I just think Cotto has has number. Yeah its a fight that needs to happen and if and when it happens I shall definatley be there my friend! :fing02:
ROBO,I in no way think Mayweather knocks him out not even a slight chance actually, and I would not expect Floyd to demolish Cotto. I wasnt trying to compare Cotto and Gatti Cotto is leagues above that and Im a bigger fan of his than of Mayweathers. I just believe Mayweather is too fast and too good defensively for almost anyone out there to beat him if he chooses to hit and run all night.
Yeah DubK I know I was just stressing the fact how much better he was bud. Another factor in the fight, Its not like Miguel is an EXPLOSIVE puncher, he is more of a THUDDING puncher he hurts u where ever he lands, Flods defence is out of this world but even the shots he blocks will hav an effect. Im thinking of Branco's shoulder mainly here but u get my point right?
Uh Mike Corley almost had Cotto out of there. The same Corley never had Zab like that. Also the fact that Floyd doesn't have to dig deep is not a negative so quit trying to portray it has one. The guy is just that good and we shouldn't knock him for being head and shoulders above the rest right now.
U mean De Marcus Corley? No he didnt hav Zab Hurt but he had Floyd hurt! Im not knockin Floyd Im a fan
I have gone through my ups and downs with Miguel Cotto. I have been following his career since he fought Justin Juuko (I believe). Throughout his next few fights I thought I saw this unstoppable tank of a fighter in the making. He is taking steps towards becoming that possibly, but I also got to see Miguel's flaws and his shortcomings.
Now I am of the thinking that Cottos somewhat poor performances against the likes of Corley and Torres had more to do with his trouble making 140...as opposed to his poor chin or that type of thing. In his 147 debut, he looked a lot more like the fighter who impressively destroyed Victoriano Sosa and Cesar Bazan. I believe the added weight has only made him stronger and more balanced. Still though, those fights with Corley and Torres definitely opened my eyes and made me much more realistic about the fighter that Cotto is.
With regards to a Mayweather fight, I think a lot of the aspects of their potential match-up have been covered by you guys already. One thing that I think is interesting that generally works to Cottos favor in this match-up is Miguels ability to cause damage with grazing shots and punches that are blocked. He cuts the ring off and will fire a combination to the body and head...he might get countered but he'll land a couple of shots that'll get in to that body and they deal damage. Mayweather obviously has the speed and the savvy to stay outside and while avoiding big punches upstairs. I don't necessarily think he could avoid the body punishment though...unless he could hurt Miguel and could get his respect. Quintana was a big welterweight with some good skills and he landed good counter shots...Miguel was just throwing over those punches without really being too discouraged.
Great style contrast...I'd love to see it. Obviously you gotta favor Mayweather, but I believe Cotto has the style and ability to dispatch Floyd if anyone does.
Good and fair assesment. Cotto is not indestructible neither is Mayweather. It's very hard to time Mayweather's speed so he has to throw first and not try to counter punch and as you very well said, it doesn't take too many rounds for Cotto to get his opponents on the deffense, like Judah was doing Mayweather early in their fight. Only that Cotto gets stronger as the fight goes on. Having said that, Mayweather is a very accurate and fast puncher himself, one of those counters could stunn Cotto and who knows, that's why we need to see this fight...
I like both fighters but Floyd is too fast and too skilled for Cotto. Carlos Quintana was doing pretty damn good with his jabs against Cotto, but Quintana got confused when Cotto suddenly switched to southpaw stance.
A better fight for Cotto would be Hatton, I think Cotto's jab would destroy Hatton.

Cotto's chin is not bad at all infact its very good! He got hurt twice, both times he was weight drained, 1st by Corley who is an underated puncher (his fight with Flores springs to mind) and caught him with a perfect shot to the temple, and lets not forget he also hurt Floyd. Torres is a bomber and after hurting Miguel he landed flush shot after flush shot and Cotto took em, then got the stoppage AGAIN. His chin is even better now with out the weight drama IMO
Weight drained??? he weighs 160 againts Corley's 141 that night.
I've been saying it for over a year now. Cotto has the best chance of anyone other than DLH of beating Floyd. Right now, Floyd would handle him pretty easily, but in another year or two (more likely two), Cotto will give Floyd a lot of trouble. Cotto has improved a lot as a boxer and has great power. Once Floyd slows down a little it has the potential to be very close. But lets be serious, I'm not picking anyone over my boy Floyd. haha.
I like Cotto alot, and the fight with Torres was a classic slugfest, but I just cant see him beating Mayweather, the guy is just too skilled. Mayweather would simply outclass him imo, though I would like to see the fight. Not counting Cotto out, but I really think Mayweather knows how to handle a guy like cotto.
