With all the talk about Calzaghe wanting to move light heavyweight and facing Hopkins, why not face a true threat at the weight: Tomasz Adamek. I think this is fight can be made because both fighters are known by HBO and it is good for the sport. I would have to favor the Polish boxer-puncher in this contest but would not be shocked if Calzaghe would makes this an incredibly close affair. What do you guys think of this fight?
adamek's tougher, has better technique and is in his prime. adamek's combinations are incredible and would give him the win in this fight. close, but adamek takes it.
adamek by UD.
Interesting bout.
Would probably give a slight edge to Calzaghe due to his experience, but would be a very tough bout, & Calzaghe would have to be on top of his game - he's never faced anyone who has the kind of height & reach advantages that Adamek has over him, & is as busy as Adamek.
Amazed at how many people putting down Adamek - has any of these people actually seen him fight???
Personally think he's the best the natural Light-Heavyweight the division's seen in a while.
Very big for a Light Heavyweight yet doesn't seem to have any problems making weight, excellent handspeed, punches in combinations to both body & head, great jab, very good power, & a great chin.
Biggest complaint against him is that he can be hit with the overhand right, but only Paul Briggs has been able to do it it consistently, & he's an excellent fighter with brutal power (doubt that Tarver would make it to the 10th against Briggs).
If you want to check out Adamek in top form, find the bout against Thomas Ulrich. Ulrich an experienced top contender with good skills & power but Adamek completely outclassed him.
Good post. I have both of Adameks bouts with Briggs (the only two I have seen of him really) and he exhibited everything you said of him. He's busy, he has good handspeed, he's skilled, and he's a tough guy with a good chin. In fact he's like a bigger version of Joe Calzaghe in many ways. He punches in combination well too.
Both of those Briggs fights are classics.

Totally agree with this post. it's obvious you've seen a lot of him.
Same can't be said of some others I think.
I'd back Adamek for sure and it's not anything against Calzaghe, I just think Adamek has a real big future. Can stick and move extremely well, but has all the shots too. he's going to be a tough matchup for anyone.

Calzaghe's biggest problem has been the mismanagement of his career. After the noteriety of his big win over Lacy he should have mounted a media bliz to target a big money fight. There is any number of potential victims he could have chosen, and Adamek is one of them. Adamek isn't a big draw, but could have been under the circumstances. It is only common sense that once you have some momentum you have to go with it. As it stands the only possible big money fight for Calzaghe is Hopkins. But considering that Hopkins career has been largely built on his opponent's drawing power, this is a dubious career strategy for Calzaghe.
If fighters got credit for taking on the toughest challenges, Calzaghe's best option would be to fight Kessler, and then maybe Adamek. Either fighter wouldn't get him the name-brand recognition of a Hopkins, a Taylor or even an over the hill Roy Jones Jr. Unfortunately sometimes boxing is more about names than challenge.
After watching Calzaghe's last fight against Bika, he would be get flogged by Adamek. And if you think that he would last against Briggs who hits like a heavyweught you are kidding yourself. Adamek has one of the best chins I have seen and if it was anyone else, Briggs would have KO'd them.
i don't as u put it "underestimate" adamek ive seen many off this fights he a good boxer but to even think he can beat a guy like calzaghe is crazy he too smart too fast i don't think Taylor has a chance vs calzaghe so i really dont think Adamek could do any better.
Calzaghe could stroll thru that light heavy weight division and outclass each and every champion with hopkins only after one more bout calzaghe would totaly own tht divison if he moves up
You can bet your life I'm gonna bring this post back to haunt ya :)
Calzaghe is also 3 inches shorter than Adamek, who's got a great chin as well.
Exactly - Adamek is a giant at Light heavy. very tall.
The guy can take a punch with the best of em too, I agree.

I'd like to actually see Hopkins or Calzaghe beat Adamek before just assuming that is what would happen.
Agree Taylor's chances are not good against Calzaghe. But one hell of a diff between fighting a top MW a a top LHW - Even if LHW is not the strongest division.
Again your underestimating the boxing skills of Adamek. For his size he has very fast hands and an extremely polished jab. His ring craft is excellent also.
Would be a good fight and certainly not the walkover you make it out to be.

A very interesting match-up. From here it looks like it could be very close.
Calzaghe if he's still at his best might have slightly better odds. But would definitely be more interesting than most of the "names" Calzaghe actually wants to fight.
Would have to give Joe some credit if he took this fight - even if it's not what I wanna see the most.
Calzaghe is never gonna want any part of it though. Difficult fight against a non-american isn't Joe's cup of tea. Even if Adamek is based out of Chicago and fights on HBO pr Showtime, the risk/reward ratio is still not to Joe's liking.
But he makes weight. Castillo also struggled to make 135-pounds but made weight for years until his body said no more. Now, Calzaghe is up there in age already but continues to make the limit which means that he could not have been struggling for that long. His metabolism has already slowed down a ton in the past ten years yet he still fights at 168-pounds.
He diets even stricter these days and for longer. He's always struggled to make the weight.
If you saw him at the Bika weigh-in, you'd of been shocked - each of his hands looked bigger than his waist.
u on CRACK? :cop:
Adamek would not last the pace with calzaghe he too fast he would school adamek all nite long

He struggles desperately to make 168, has done for years and years. He has to diet very strictly, and almost over-train.
