I'm talking the Mayweather that fought Gatti an the Roy Jones that fought either Toney or Pazienza. Figure Id throw this out there. I might bring it up again after the De La Hoya fight to see how he does at that weight.
haha, i feel like ive just had a telling off by my dad! i wonder what your opinion would be if ur name was rjjtxrs316 not pbftxrs316???
The entire point of the forum is for people to discuss there different opinions so why come on here and say most people who have posted on this thread were wrong instead of just telling us your opinion??
haha, you have just had a telling off by your dad son, so unless you want an ass whoopin, i'd be careful if i were you. anyway, my user name has nothing to do with my opinions. i call it like i see it, so take it easy.
i don't need you to tell me what the point of this forum is, because i already know jackass. i never claimed that you guys were wrong, read the post again. damn son, you're making daddy disappointed in you. i taught you better than this. with an opinion, there is no right or wrong answer, you following me sonny boy. i argued that you guys were so cut-throat with your responses, like implying that roy would kill mayweather because he was bigger which has nothing to do with how he performed in the ring. some even said that jones was faster which is false imo. i implyed that floyd had a better defense, technical and natural skill, and better ring presence although roy's was exceptionally well. floyed was a more polished fighter who could adjust better than anybody i seen fight. that was my post. i don't know what you read, but you're obviously confused. never fear, daddy's here to set you straight son.
Some sort of factual documentation.
Just becuase you say Toney weighed 200 doesnt mean its true at all.
Im just looking for proof, which none of you seem to have.
Okay...well I did a quick search on the net and this was one of the first articles that came up.

I'm not going to sit here and go in depth to find information for you, but believe what you will. Toney was drained and didn't give a very good account of himself. He woudl have done better had he not been so worn out, but I still don't think he would have beaten Jones at that point.
i guess so. something that documents his training 2 months before the jones fight with weekly weigh ins and all.

The evidence PBF34 is looking for some sort of video showing Toney 220 lbs.

Im not sayingn that its not possible, I just havent seen evidence that would lead me to believe Toney had to lose 50 plus pounds for the fight.
evidence such as?
toney weighed 215 five weeks or so before the fight and he weighed in at 167 or so come weigh in time. this isn't a bunch of bullshit i'm throwing in your face.
again with the fallacies. just because you can't believe something doesn't necessarily mean it's not true. you're a smart enough guy...you are semi-familiar with toneys career i'm guessing...given his history it's no stretch in any sense of the word. this is a guy who used to weigh 160...now he has weighed as much as 238. i never heard anything about him having the flu, but he was said to have been hooked up to an iv the night before to replace fluids.

If Toney wouldnt have gotten robbed against Griffin in the second fight then him and Roy would have fought at 175. That would have been interesting. I think if Toney would have stayed at cruiser he would cleaned out the division. He looked comfertable at that weight.
it's undeniable that Toney was suffering from weight issues for that fight, but honestly, Roy most likely would have beaten him anyway. Toney, even back then, preferred his opponent to stand in and trade with him, which is something Roy just didn't do unless he was the bigger man. I still see Roy winning, but Toney would have made it a fight like you said.
i agree...roy was a bad style matchup.
Im not denying he had weight problems, but I dont believe he had to lose 50 pounds in a short time span. I think that is an extreme exxaguration and there are no facts to prove my opinion otherwise.
I also do not believe TOney had the flu.

just a quick internet source...this wasn't something made up by toneys camp. james has always struggled with his weight. notice how his poorest performances have always come when he had problems with ballooning up. after the jones fight he IMMEDIATELY moves to 175. after the thadzi incident he IMMEDIATELY moves up to cruiser. look at him now...it's not hard to see he can't control himself.
and i'm not even trying to say that if he makes that weight comfortably he destorys roy....he WOULD give roy a much closer fight though.

nobody except for the people around the fight who reported have proof of it. that's a baaaaaad fallacy SLW. you are basically saying, "since i wasn't there and couldn't see toneys struggles with weight, this weight drain stuff must not be true." there's actually a name for this type of fallacy. since something can't be empirically weighed by the opposing party, it must be incorrect/false/misleading/etc.

I would suggest it. When both guys land 5 punches in a round but the champions are slightly better, the champion gets the round bud....not the guy who people hope succeeds.
I dont give rounds to fighters because they are the champion, they have to earn rounds just as much as the challenger should.
And what your saying isnt necessarily true.
If 2 fighters both land 5 punches, but one fighter dictates the action while the other covers up and is extremly inactive, the round goes to the person who pressed the action.
I'm already over it, once again you don't know what your talking about.
In your opinion Jones is the greatest of all time, so you gonna believe what you want to believe.
I dont think Roy was the greatest fighter of all time...
I believe he had the talent to be the greatest fighter ever, but did not achive that status.
read my posts, man.
BTW back to Taylor/Hopkins fight. I had Hopkins winning only the last 3 rounds, I had Taylor winning 7 rounds and 2 rounds were even, rounds 5 and 9 were even rounds. Not a close fight at all. Taylor clearly won the first fight!
what about the 3rd round...? i thought that was a clearer round for hopkins than was the 5th.
It is misleading, because it's only words and we were not there.
Is it false? I don't know.
And that's my point. That is all. I am not one to call Toney a liar. But humans are prone to exaggeration at times. Not sure if this is a case of that or not.

I have no physical evidence or 100% proof that Toney lost 50 lbs in 5 weeks. That could well be an exaggeration.

But its not like someone else put that weight on Toney.
He did it to himself.
Its his problem and his fault.
absolutely, but the fact is that he still had problems with weight, hence jumping up to 175 and getting a questionable decision loss in his very next bout.
i said it already...jones beat him straight up. if you aren't in fighting shape then you are going to get beat up on. but if toney comes into the ring like he came in against barkley then that is a different fight no doubt in my mind. maybe not a toney win because joens had a crazy style, but certainly better than 10-2 in favor of jones or whatever i scored it (maybe 11-1).
