I have to say that I am a huge Winky fan. I know he doesn't knock guys out or anyting, but he has a beautiful right lead jab. Quick. It comes right out of his gaurd and goes right back to his gaurd. That's great technique, most people let it drop when they start to get tired, but Wright kept his gaurd up the whole fight.
This fight was a close fight. The very first time I scored the fight 116-112 for Wright.
I have a feeling I was letting my bias of my scoring get the best of me. I truly count defense, skill, connect %, ring generalship. I definitely count these more than power.
Boy, this fight was a se-saw back and forth fight. Technical skill vs. Power. The scoring was tough in some rounds and other rounds.
Watching it the second time. I gave it 115-113 for Wright. But it really depends on how you score the last round. Wink movied in and out, used his jab, threw some left crosses with that. The only part of the round Winky didn't take was the last 20 seconds, cause he kind of danced.
But most of the round, he came forward, in and out. Taylor only throws 1 flurry of power punches in the round. I just can't give that round to Taylor, other than that he never threw a flurry, and only punched when he got attacked, and even then he didn't land.
It was an excellent fight. A lot more aggressive than most people expected.
During the fight things would happen, like Jim Lamply saying "Wrights hurt! He's hurt!" In the 3rd or 4th round when it was not at all the case.
Wright would shell up when Taylor would start to try to throw bombs and everyone was thinking Wright was getting hurt because he wouldn't return fire for a little bit. But he was just being smart, why try to open up when you can easily withstand the flurry and wait for Taylor to unload and get tired?
I even disagree with the concubox numbers for Taylor in this fight because he didn't land nearly as many punches as they were crediting to him. A ton of his punches were hitting elbows, arm, gloves. And the announcers (Jim Lamply mostly) would keep saying "Taylor just landed a straght right" and then in the replay you can clearly see the straights no getting thru Winks gaurd.
Time to get some glasses guys. Larry, Jim, everyone...
It was a very entertaining fight though. It's become obvious to me that Winky doesn't have knockout power against elite fighters. Given the fact that he basically tatood Trinidad their whole fight but didn't put him away.
But it's also obvious to me that Taylor has picked up some bad habits. (Even under Steward...)
He's not using his jab. Which is a staple of most of Stewards fighters. Taylor has practically went away from his jab at all now to just shooting straights and power combinations. And now, we don't know if Jermaine still has KO power against elite or good fighters...
Maybe we will see a rematch one day, but I doubt it. As it looks like Jermaine wants to move up to challenge Calzahge.
Lol, Both of them were tired in the 12th. Taylor always makes some sort of mistake in his fights. I don't think he'll ever be someone with great defense.
but the fact many of winkys shot he could have blocked it if he only rised his guard. i didnt see any improvment in Taylor even after Steward training.
They guy go long arms i think it has the longest arms i ever seen in boxing about 27in where most boxers in his class is 24 or 23. that i seen in the tale of the tape in Hopkins fight. Tarver is 24 1/2 or at most 25 i dont remeber but you could see if Taylor used his jab effective he could easily control the fight.
another wierd thing the guys that i seen fight with Taylor alway end up very tired? could it be his way of clinching could make them tired?
because in the last round he changed his style and that is weird probably the punchs that Taylor thrown had some effect on Winky that made him put his guard down abit. you know Winky is a guy with high stamina but I think Taylor tried him abit.
and i forgot to add sometihng Taylor made some ameatur mistakes like putting his guard down just in the beging of the fight that made winky right jab hit him in the eye that is why it is swallon as well as he didnt jab that much to help him set up some of his power punchs.
but if winky fough the way he normal fight in the last round it is sure going to be his fight

Taylor's punches are louder and it looked like he was trying to put much more on them than Winky put on his. I guess that's why Lampley had a orgasm over some of the punches. Everytime Jermain went on the ropes he would unleash a flurry.
Why do you think that?

Wright did get hurt because the way he was fighting was different at the mid-rounds.
first he was just coming forward the usual winky style but then he started in some part to retreat and a bit forward.
i gave it a draw Winky was ahead in the 11th round by 1 point and then he changed his style in the 12th could be he lost abit stamina and that is unsual for Winky probably that is the sing of getting older
Why do you think that?
a draw was fair in my opinion..the 11th was close and could have gone either way, but I edged it to Winky...but then Winky gave away the 12th making it a draw...I wouldn't argue edging the 11th to Taylor and the 12th to Taylor either making Taylor a 1point winner

Ive never seen a situation where Winky had an opponent hurt and didnt go for the kill.
The guy cant punch, period.
He could have gotten Mosley outta there if he pushed himself to do so.
He could have gotten Trinidad outta there if he tried a harder down the stretch.
And most recently, he could have gotten Quartey out of there if he started trying in the 10th round.
He feels comfortable in his talent, so much so, that he coasts to lopsided decisions when he can, instead of 'risking' it Litzau style
i have seen the fight twice now and both times i have had it 115-113 for wright
the crowd influenced the judges imo, everytime taylor threw a punch that hit the side of wrights glove you would have fought he had just put winky on queer street with their reaction.
That and Lampley going "AND TAYLOR LANDS A BIG RIGHT!" every time Taylor threw a punch.
The 1st time i watched it i had it 114-114, but after rewatching it i had it 115-113 for Wright, but it was an increadibly close fight, i gave Winky the 12th round BTW... I don't see why the HBO crew gave it to Taylor, he landed nothing through the round.
I had Taylor winning 115-113. The fight was close, so nowbody should be saying Winky was robbed and other bullshit. I don't like that Jermain's jab has fallen off the face of the Earth.
He used it against Hopkins but I haven't seen it really since.
Winky can punch pretty good, he just doesnt dedicate himself to a singlepunch ever, and he never pushes himself to get that KO when he can keep it safe and get the decision
