Well this is my first post so I guess I'll introduce myself.
I play football for my highschool team, and I'm a middle linebacker..but I don't really get what I want to out of it. So I want to get into this because I really want to prove something to myself. But the problem is, I don't really think my parents are so into it.
Is there any advice you can give me on how to tell them I want to box? I am very athletic, and I have strong arms so I think I'll do well. Also, if they do say yes, can you tell me what I will need to start? Im 14, 145lbs,
and 5'11".
If you read this I really thank you. Any help would be great, thanks in advance.
how did you guys get into the sport?
Welcome to Boxing scene bud. I just went out of the blue, my mum wasnt really feelin it but hey what could she do, beat me up? Ive got boxing training now bitch, Bring it! Seriously tho as soon as i won my 1st fight she was all for it. Just say ur just going for the fitness side of it, no fighting, after a while they will warm to it.
Well this is my first post so I guess I'll introduce myself. I'm Dan, and I'm fourteen years old. I live in Providence, Rhode Island (where manfredo jr is from), and I really want to get into this sport.

are you into dudes? if so badblood and the fix are interested
you can get brain damage easier from playing football then boxing..tell them that! because its true.
I forget which year it was, i think in the late 90's. In the news seemed like every week they were reporting how this kid or pro, died from football. And they were saying how football was dangerous and such. And i've heard them say that a football player getting a concusion is worse or same as a fighter getting ko'd concusions. And i remember a few weeks ago how they were talking about football injuries and they said that a few football players didn't live past 50-60, years old and some of these players had concusions.
Tell them its not easy to have your nose broken in the amatures. And you will learn a lot with Boxing and get a lot of confidence. Some advice i'd like to add is if you are going to box make sure you stick with it till at least you get one amature fight this way you don't ask yourself what if? And the ladies like a man who can fight.
lol thanks guys, but my parents aren't really the easiest to budge because they don''t want me breaking my nose -.-
Break their noses first............
say what???? i already do concentrate on the ladies =P
Try to get as many mental pictures as you can- for later in the life.
Being out of school makes it much harder to meet chicks.
Say goodbye to "selection" when it's over.
You'll end up with a gargoyle- like the one I was with last night... :nonono:

Don't forget to concentrate on chicks too. This is the best time of your life.
Women don't improve with age, generally.
Many peak out at 16, like Kournikova..
This isnt Dome material yet, wait till Exige shows up then it will be Dome material.
Hes a new guy, give him a break
And yeah, welcome.....................Rockin':boxing:
this kid poses a threat to exige?
We wont stop the fight unless it looks bad for the kid. Me saying that we will stop it was just quicker to write. I dont hesitate with an 8 count if I think a kid is hurt. I get booed and hissed at by the crowd and usually bitched at by the kids trainer, even when its so plainly obvious that he's hurt. The funny thing is that in amatuer boxing it means almost nothing in the scoring of the bout. I would rather take the bitching from everybody then have to read in the paper the next day that some kid died and I was in the ring controling the bout, no way would I want that. They can always come back and fight another day when erroring on the side of safety, and that whats its about...........Rockin':boxing:
Yeap, fuck the crowds and look out for the kids, that's it, I don't know how it is over there but amateur judges here are terrible, I think they get paid under the table, It seems that in every boxing card there are at least a few complete robberies LOL. That's why it is very important to show the kids this is only a learning experience and not a fight that counts to avoid frustrating them if get robbed.
Aswell you should inform your parents that amatuer boxing is very little like the pros. In the pros your seeing guys dropped left and right and cuts all over the place. In the amatuers this happens very seldom.
I referee and judge the amatuers in Michigan and our #1 priority over all is to make sure that the kids dont get hurt. If somebody is in trouble we will stop the bout to let the kid fight another day when maybe hell be up to par. Its all about learning and saftey for USABoxing. Bringing up americas youth to be stolid and strong with the confidence that only the ring can bring you............Rockin':boxing:
Good job, take care of those future champs, its pretty much the same in PR, if a kid gets rocked pretty hard he gets a protective count right away, but as far as stopping the fight, they'll let it go unless its a brutal one sided beating.

Keep in mind you're gonna take on someone your own size, not a smaller receiver or running back.
Boxing's not for everyone, you have to sacrifice a lot to be a boxer, might be easier to just stick to football. Give it a shot without telling your parents and if you think boxing's for you then have your trainer call them up and talk to them, show them the amateur protective gear, talk about discipline, individual achievements and all that crap.
