Rarely these days in boxing do you see champions fight the very best in their division and then seek out even harder competition. This is the case however with WBC super bantamweight champion Israel Vazquez. In December of 2005, Vazquez fought and defeated then champion Oscar Larios, closing out their Trilogy with Vazquez winning two of three. Larios entering that fight recogonized as the number one 122 pounder at the time.
About nine months later Vazquez took on bantamweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez who entered the bout on an 18 fight win streak. Going into the fight, many thought Vazquez-Gonzalez could be much better than the main event of Marco Antonio Barrerra vs Rocky Juarez II. It was. In what may turn out to be 2006's fight of year, Vazquez showed why he's pound-for-pound the best 122 pounder in boxing. Bloodied, cut, and knocked down twice, Vazquez rallied back to knock out Gonzalez in round ten.....

I think Israel will KO marquez. Rafa's hasn't fought a guy as big as him who could hurt him bad and strong enough to not let rafa get his way.
Yeah,
And let's not forget Vasquez gets stronger as the fight goes on. If Marquez wins this fight: I'd say it catapaults his P4P ranking. I already would consider him a top five candidate.
however I think he's ripe for the picking like I've stated.

With all the positive responses in this thread, doesn't it make one wish Gary Shaw and Golden Boy were members of BoxingScene?
On second thought, maybe they are....:)

I think it would be a great fight. But I think Marquez would win. I don't see size being that big of a factor, since Marquez has always been big for his weight.
This would be a great fight. And i wouldn't sell Marquez short, he can punch and he can box. I got Marquez by decicion in this one in a war or possably late tko win.
I don't think anyone can take Marquez out to deep water and drown him or make him look too bad. He has a questionable chin but so does Vazquez after seeing what Gonzales was able to do to him. Stylewise it's completely different but my point is that Vazquez's chin isn't rock solid and that's always a disadvantage versus Marquez, but it works both ways. All that said both of these guys are versatile and can box if they want to, this fight has great written all over it and i could see this being the coming out party for either one of these fighters, I just can't decide who.
That's a no no fight for Marquez.
He's too little to face Vasquez and he'd just take him into deep water and drown him. Sure I think Marquez is P4P one of the best fighters....and he has been for a while.....and he is a natural featherweight fighting at Bantam. But seeing what Vasquez did to Simonyan, Larios, Gonzalez and Julio.......it's been established that he can punch really fucking hard and especially late.
Unless Marquez stops him early which I doubt.....he's ripe for the picking.
