Just when I thought there would be a true (white) American superstar he gets KTFO. How many saw this coming? I knew Jason Litzau's chin was suspect when he got dropped on ESPN. But, he beat himself last night. He's a good fighter that lacks discipline. If only he had listened to his corner, kept his distance and boxed, he would be the winner. Litzau got good skill but, lacks discipline and he will never be a known champ.
I dont know how a 35 year old campas fighting @ middlewieght is a "great" fighter or how getting buckled by that fighter at least 2x makes makes duddy "tough as nails."
It was a tough fight against a vastly experienced opponent and he came through it.What's the problem?
All part of the learning curve.Duddy still has plenty of time left before he's the finished article.
I'm disgusted with Litzau right now. I can't even think about him without a curse or two. I was hyped to see a guy from my city, my school go as far as he did. But last night, he beat himself. Litzau gave the crowd waaay too much entertainment than he cauld handle. When he boxed Jose, he was outclassing the guy, but like an idiot, he has to be "Entertaining". Well it WAS entertaining when he got knocked out :nonono:
Well I like the guy and he makes 4 exciting fights, also im not prepared to wright him off after this! I think he can come back and even if he cant im still a fan and that aint got shit to do wit skin colour!
You won't get an argument here
On the serious, though, the threadstarter cannot be taken "the wrong way" because in this case the wrong way is the right way. I.e.,
Don't like it, don't comment but thanks for adding your 2 cents on my thread :owned:
He probaly taught he had worn him down for a KO, he didn't realize that the no name fighter only needed one punch to win the fight lol. The 1st round he got wobbled, than he moved around, stopped again and got knocked out.
Let's not forget that Litzau had to be pretty thick not to understand the situation of this fight.
Who are you fighting- 1997 Golden Gloves Champ. That means Hernandez was not a chump. Let's give him a smidgen of respect from the Litzau camp then, yes?
First round....Jason is put down by Hernandez. Tastes his power early. Now we should have some respect for the man in front of us- he's has a strong amateur background...probably more than Litzau and he has the power to drop him. Why didn't Jason take the hint?
The fight wears on and Jason's corner can be heard saying, "Jason...stop stepping back. Don't play with him. This is the big leagues. This is HBO. This is the pro's. Stop playing with him."
Litzau ignored his corner. He was told to stop being cocky, stop neglecting defense to garner a KO and to fight smart. He was told over and over that this was a bigger fight than most he had been in and he had to be careful.
In fact, when Litzau was dropped Jim Lampley said, "Litzau ignored the advice of his corner and is dropped."
I saw more than a cocky fighter- I saw a fighter so damn sure of himself he got laid out. Whenever that happens I get giddy. Young fighters need to listen to their corner.
He's not only cocky but he doesn't follow directions.
He sounds a bit like Kevin Mitchell, has the skills but just loves to fight too much.
In some respects its odd that the US hasn't got many good white fighters, with only Paulie Malignaggi and Kelly Pavlik really springing to mind at the moment. I guess there just isn't much of an interest in boxing among white kids, even those from the inner cities. There seems to be a real boxing culture among black and Latino youths in the states which has kept boxing alive in the US.
Honestly, you want a real American superstar- you better start looking for promising Native American fighters. Only TRUE Americans, right?
.

Litzau is cocky and he was showing promising signs of a future champion. The reason I was impressed is because I never seen a "white" American fighter fight with the skills that he fights with. But, he is undisciplined and that is what is going to ruin his career.
That's inaccurate. Sure, whiteness has partial blame here, but Litzau is genuinely a solid fighter and should have won the fight.
I just dont see it.I dont say that to argue or anything, but just being honest,Hernandez had garbage defense and was there to get hit with everything.
He makes for good fights due to his aggression and suspect chin. White or black, this makes him an attraction.
Kendall Holt should be a superstar by now.
Thats just it,the only reason anybody gave a f_ck about Litzau,is because he was white.

i hate how people say that, just because a prospect struggles with a great fighter, hes been exposed...
thats about as far from the truth as possible. Thats an outstanding learning experience for him, and he should come out of it a much better fighter.
Hes a very entertaining fighter, tough as nails, got some very good middleweight power... should only be a few more years before he makes his splash among the elite.

A bad chin and bad defense makes for a ton of excitment though...
Maybe Joe Frazier and Micky Ward wouldnt have lasted as long, but their fights may have had more seasaw action, they would have been in some OTHER great fights that werent originally great.
If his "micky ward" comes along, you would see a fight where he is close to being knocked out, gets knocked down a few times, but uses his power and superior boxing skill to pull out a late round KO.
it would fantastic and i can see that fight happening. Im excited for when it does
I'm going to respectfully disagree. If Litzau's only career options are to scour the planet for another defense lacking fighter to have a battle with- or get laid out- well...good luck. He can be a B class fighter who gets his skull cracked by hard punchers with decent skills and I'll forget he is alive. I don't hate him...I just don't see anything to latch onto about him. Just me.
Just to be honest..I look forward to Litzau being pushed forward because people think he's exciting and getting laid out a couple more times. If Micky Ward or Joe Frazier had his chin..well..those names wouldn't mean shit.

i think he can definetly be a great attraction. He could make millions once he finds his "micky ward" or his "joe frazier"
He needs another guy just like him, but a guy that comes forward.
i would LOVE to see more of this guy. All his fights are SO incredibly entertaining, i became a fan of his last night, and he didnt even win!

Well, people also love John Duddy, even though he had a life and death struggle with a 35 year old Campas.

Which is why you hear me saying he's nothing special. He's just another white boy who got dropped. Moving on.
