Just caught the Taylor/Ouma bout and was unimpressed with Taylor's showing. This fight was supposed to be a showcase of his talents for his hometown. But in reality, it uncovered the deficiencies in his skills. First off, he didn't establish a jab and found himself being backed up by a smaller fighter: he never stood his ground, a criticism Lennox made during the fight. I know some of you will argue that that's his style, but is it really? Is Jermain Taylor really a seasoned counterpuncher that should be fighting backing up? I worry for him when he actually fights a pressure fighter who swarms like Ouma but is also a real middleweight. Secondly, his conditioning was questionable. He was visibly tired in the middle rounds and the amount of clinching he did reminded me alot of John Ruiz. But it wasn't just the grabbing that revealed his poor conditioning, but the fact that he held on for so long even after the referee ordered a break. Jermain Taylor is supposed to be boxing next big thing, but he needs alot more work.
BTW, Joe C. eats Jermain's lunch...
The only bad thing I have to say about Taylor's performance is that Steward hasn't taught Taylor a damn thing. Taylor is still the same fighter he was before Steward taking over. No improvement at all. I don't expect a miracle overnight but damn some improvement needs to be made.
Maybe true, but we still don't know how Calzaghe will react to Taylors punchs.
he reacted pretty damn well to Lacy's punches:
Lacy knocks out SMW. JT just failed to KO a small lmw, after throwing everything but the kitchen sink to him.
I really doubt Taylor would stop calzaghe.
maybe maybe maybe a knockdown
What worries me is Taylors Stamina.
hes gonna have to throw MORE to beat a guy like Calzaghe... I think he would be really tired toward the end and make it a clinch fest for the last 3 rounds. Maybe even getting stopped in the process

Taylor won most of the rounds no doubt, but he should be ashamed for all the holding he did to a fighter who was a lot smaller with a lot less punching power than him. The holding made him worse than Ruiz himself who held guys alot bigger than him mostly!
The holding comes from Steward. But the bombs he threw imo, made the differnce and the crowd reacted. Ouma was the smaller fighter, but he was eating most all Taylors punchs, instead of people saying he eat a ton of leather they say he can take a good shot. Ouma today probably woke up with huge headache those were some vicous shots he took cleanly.

I thought he did really good in this fight. Seeing it live i didn't notive him clinching so much cause he threw some bombs that just made one say, "wow, did Ouma, just eat some punchs or what.." And i aggree Taylor is a counter puncher and imo, he's effective, he landed almost all his punchs on Ouma, Ouma eat a lot of lether last night. I just enjoyed the fight, i didn't really try to critize Taylor cause imo, it was a good action fight. Taylor just threw mad bombs and that impressed me. Taylor clearly won a clean lop sided decicion.
