Taylor won ten rounds in that fight at the very least, and the two he didn't win were the result of him and his corner knowing the fight was cleanly in the bag.
All this talk about Taylor being backed up by a smaller fighter is outright silly.
Taylor is a guy that needs distance and leverage to throw his best punches. Ouma is a volume puncher with a very good chin (looked much stronger at 160) and his smothering style negated the distance Taylor usually enjoys to get off as he pleases.
Regardless of this, Taylor moved backward and unloaded clean crisp effective power shots that clearly won him almost every round. His shots were much more damaging, and he negated every bit of work Ouma was doing.
It might not have looked impressive, but it was an impressive display of being able to adapt with a style that (on paper) was troubling to him.
By no means was it a candidate for fight of the year, but all of this "Taylor struggled" crap is way off base.
Styles make fights. Ouma's style was wrong for Taylor, yet he won nearly every round.
Taylor was backing up all the way to the ropes and then clinching and spinning around, just to get backed up to the ropes again. There are guys who have seen more of his fights than I have to say whether Taylor can fight on the ropes, but he couldn't against Winky. Steward kept telling him not to back up against the ropes in that fight too. Also it seemed everytime Ouma got on the inside Taylor clinched. I think people were dissapointed in Taylors clinching and how he was backing up the entire fight. Talyor almost shut Ouma out (Im surprised he wasn't dropped) but he could have done things better.
Taylor should go to the body more but against Hopkins I don't remember him going to the body much, I think he was forced to somewhat against Winky.
I think Jermain likes to use his reach for punches a lot while backing up.

not without knockdowns or point deductions there isn't.
did you score every round of Barrera-Morales I even?
Yea i agree with your post. Taylor won 10 rounds on my card. Taylor should have went to the body more. He kept on telegraphing that 1-2 down the middle. He should have been aiming to the chest. Taylor did good though. People could hate all they want. Jermain Taylor IS the undisputed champ! Props on his victory. A victory is a victory.
im not hating I just think taylor is hyped and it showed last night. plain and simple very unimpressive, seemed like steward was irritated with jermain too.
Im not saying he looked great, but he won nearly every round against a game opponent. He still has alot to learn and needs to fucking stop backing up so much. He doesnt use his size.

I completely disagree with most everyone in this thread. Taylor is still trying to fight going backwards and I mean straight back, instead of listening to his trainer, whats his name, oh yeah emmanual Steward, telling him to settle down and stand his ground. When he found out early he couldnt sloppily blast ouma out, he should have changed his attack and worked Ouma's body more and used his huge size difference to break Ouma down. Its not like Ouma was putting on a clinic, he looked slow, and far less offensive and motivated than Ive ever seen him look. Taylor should have been able to put together an impressive victory last night against an opponent out of his weight class who was willing to come forwrd and was available for shots all night but it looks like Taylor is sliding backwards instead of improving. didn't anybody else noticed how bad he gassed? I like Taylor as a person but he is not the fighter HBO makes him out to be and looks like he needs to move up in weight and work on his game before fighting fighting more top shelf fighters.

Piss poor judges.

Roberto don't you have anything better to do than purposely misinterprit my posts?
You're a sad sorry excuse for a boxing fan, and your posts being 95% shit really underline that.
** Well, now, I do translate you to 95% Sanskrit for south Asian perusal, but I have never misinterred any of your posts, preferring cremation for this market segment, which struggles by the way to understand your chicken bucket job description.
** Ouma won nearly every round eh? Don't have any problems grabbing a clue now and then, but no way can I mangle English and grab as many chicken buckets as James' fetchit boy as you do. You may well be co-inducted into the HOF with him, the first bucket boy ever.
We are honoured by your esteemed prowess.
Ok so apparently you cannot read.

The bottom line about Taylor is this; we still really don't know what we're getting in terms of out reigning middleweight champ. Since he's stepped up the competition he has passed all four tests, although he has only done so by the skin of his teeth. Against Hopkins the first time he was lucky to escape with the win, but he certainly deserved no less then a draw. The second fight was as close as hell again, but again he managed to scrape by. Against Wright he was again fortunate to escape with a draw (I had Wright winning the fight by a few rounds), but again he held on to his title. And against Ouma he won at least eight rounds, but the fight was not the showcase of talent that it was supposed to be. It was sloppy and Ouma was on his feet the entire fight. Does that mean that Taylor had trouble with Ouma? No, he fought the right fight for him to win and did so pretty handily. But like the three fights that came before it, it was an ugly way of going about it.
So what does this tell us? We don't really know. It tells us that Taylor is probably about as good as the Hopkins, Wrights, and Oumas of the world (I say Ouma because the size was really the difference). He can beat any of those fighters on any given night, but he can also lose to them on any given night (aside from Ouma probably). What HBO and some fanatical fans are making Taylor out to be is some sort of dominating champion at 160 and that is simply not the case. However, he is without a doubt also on the level of this upper echelon of fighters at this weight range. And that is certainly not a bad place to be, it's a damn good one. It also just means that we are going to see some close fights.
A fair post, but he dominated Ouma, so talking about Ouma winning four rounds or "aside from Ouma probably" is way off base.
Hopkins was #1 pound for pound when Taylor fought him, and Winky was #2. So at the end of the day you're agreeing that we can say he's on par with fighters of that callibur, that's not so bad.
I'm not a big fan of Taylor, and I thought he narrowly lost the 1st Hopkins fight and the Winky fight.
But with that said he gained some very valuable experience in those fights (trial by fire if you will) and seems to be better off for it.
I thought he showed some very good ring savvy adjusting to Ouma yesterday and winning nearly every round. It was a good win for him imo.

good post brohem.
Because we didn't GET that.
Totally inability to comprehend basic points. Fuck off to Ebay and buy some more silky sheets you Canuck queer.
aren't you leading the campaign to end name-calling? LOL
I had Wright winning, and I think Hopkins won the first fight.. it's clear that you're just tossing JT's salad.. and for you to call us poor judges for scoring EXTREMELY close fights in favour of Wright or Hopkins then you are the poor judge for thinking there was only 1 way about it.
on the contrary, most who scored it for Taylor admit it was close, but Wright fans and Hopkins fans act like they were shut outs.

I thought we were supposed to stop the name calling??
OH yes BOZO.. because as we all know .. YOU are the epitome of Boxing wisdom and Knowledge.... You have the manners and tact of an Ozark Hillbilly.. If people dont want to be impressed with jermaine the FRAUD Taylor.. They dont have to be.. Even if it hurts your feelings..
More trolling huh? Funny how ever since I pointed out what a cry baby you are you're stalking my posts with no regard for the topic.
For the record, you have a Hobbs tattoo on your ass and you think Wlad Kiltschko is better than Dempsey and Marciano.
Nothing you say comes close to mattering.
Instead of dissing Taylor, why don't you give Ouma credit for surviving the biggest punches he's ever been hammered him for 12 rounds. And there is no way Ouma won 3 rounds so get off that shit. You are the same fuckers that probably had Wright and Hopkins winning. Piss poor judges.
