Jermain Taylor has failed to impress in 5 straight fights now....he is flat out garbage. he beat ouma tonight becuase he was so much bigger...but as far as im concerned he sucks. his power is overrated and he has gone 1-2-1 in his last 4 in my opinion.
the best part about hopkins...he'd leave no question as to who was the better fighter. taylor can barely beat the feather fisted natural 154'er....i find it funny how the hbo crew cockrides Taylor and says that Ouma landed 0 significant punches when that was the EXACT case in the first Hopkins fight. I can't give credit to Taylor tonight...garbageville....too bad I was predicting him to win by knockout.
Taylor is no natural fighter. He should be playing safety in the Arena League. He's stiff, not fluid and fights like a robot with no soul. And, worst of all, he's BORING.
While takling about Hopkins/Calzaghe isn't the thread's intention... I'll bite. Keep in mind Calzaghe can throw 60-70 punches a round against guys like Lacy and Bika because they wont punish him with counters and good defense the way a guy like B-Hop would. I'm not saying Zag wouldn't outthrow B-Hop but he wouldn't be able to have his way with him like he did the likes of Lacy. 2 completely different fighters.
Just in the way Ouma couldn't throw 100 shots a round against Taylor; Zag couldn't against B-Hop.
Agree with the bold my friend, Hopkins wasnt very active against Tarvere either he just got the perfect opponent.
Calzaghe will throw at least 50-60 punches a round-how does Bernard keep up if he is as you say too old?
How does he keep up...simple, rematch with Tarver, rumble with Oleg etc...he is a matchmaker now and he knows who to fight and who not to fight!
I would definitely pick calzaghe against this hopkins,
I might even have picked calzaghe prime for prime, due to the style match up.
I see your points and I mostly agree, but I would like to add that Hopkins not throwing punches and taking rounds off HAS to be connected with his age. for chrissake the guy is 40!! it is not like he one day decided "i am going to throw a punch every 10 minutes", he just got old.
as a sidenote, this is why i think whoever picked hop in the taylor rematch was borderline crazy. his problem in the 1st fight was one and only one: not enough activity. sure has hell he wasnt gonna get it back 6 months later.

Who cares what a bunch of bitter Hopkins and Wright fans think about Taylor. Be mad at your p4p boys for losing or drawing to this fighter, who is still very green. I mean doesn't that make your boys look downright shameful?
Lets see here...
1) Gringo is one of my favorite posters.
2) Hopkins had two cracks at Taylor and if you are gonna critisize Jermain you cannot forget to throw some at Bernard's feet as well-he fought the same fight twice, how smart is that?
3) I agree Calzaghe whips Taylor but if everyone is predicting Calzaghe to smash Jermain who do you like between Joe and Bernard? I know styles make fights but lets be real here Joe poses some serious style problems for Bernard "10 punch a round" Hopkins.
4) Taylor and Bernard are similiar, they both due there best work against Junior middleweights.
5) The 2 best middleweight Hopkins ever fought...Jones and Taylor...Im sorry I have not always been a hater, I knew who the Junkyard Dog was long before most and he used to be one of my favorite fighters, post Tito he became tighter with his punches then my wife is with the pocket book (my wife is jewish)...he was absolutely awful too watch post Tito and that is when he became this superstar in the eyes of the fans...Im an old school Hopkins fan, the new Bernard is nothing to get excited about and I refused to sit quietly when he gives mediocre perfromaces and people call those mediocre perfromces defensive art! It was clear after the Eastman fight that whoever decided to let there hands go a bit against NArd was going to have a real shot, forget landing punches Gringo Bernard is so inactive in the squyared circle all you have to do is let your hands go a bit and your gonna be right there come decision time.

I agree 100% with Gringo on this one. I've had him drawing or losing in his 3 fights with Winky/B-Hop, but that doesn't even matter. Now he gets a relatively easy shot by fighting a feather fisted Ouma with no defense... who he chooses to hug and run from as opposed to actually standing and throwing.
Debate the Hopkins/Winky results all you want... but the fact that so much debate exists should tell you something. If you haven't won a single important fight in your career convincingly yet then you've got some issues to take care of. He'll continue to be a decent champ but if Winky decides to take a rematch now I'd wager a good amount on Winky to win an easy UD.... assuming the judges take their head out of their ass and only give Taylor rounds because he throws the harder punches.

He sucks? Try and getting in a ring with an elite fighter. Respect the man for christsake. Taylor isn't no one dimesional Lacy that would be dominated by Calzaghe.
I honestly dont think that Taylor is great but to say he sucks because he barely beat one of the best middleweights ever in B-Hop and tied one of the top p4p guys is ridiculous noone else even made it close with B-hop, there is a lot of middle ground between sucking and being exciting. If people were arguing about him being exciting or not I think hes not but whats being argued is effectiveness hes undisputed he did it the right way by beating "THE MAN" in his weight class he deserves some props
1. taylor still has to show a performance that makes me say; "i want to see more of this fighter". If all you guys are pleased, by what you saw so far, what can i say... good for you!
2. everyone can have his own opinions about how some fights are scored. opinions are opinions. anyone saying "the result is what matters" is full of shit and just using this argument today, bcos it supports their point.
3. Taylor is 28 and he had a remarkable amateur career. when is his prime going to begin?
I mean... when i watch him, i think he is green just like some of you do, but his demographics make me think he is not going to get much better than this.
I agree with Oldgringo on this. Taylor has arguably lost 3 of his last 4 fights. Everybody objective knows that he's HBO's poster boy. I thought that Taylor lost the fight to Winky & hasn't looked like the fighter HBO's been trying to push. His power does seem overated & he wasn't able to really dent Ouma. After the weighin he usually blows up to over a 170 lbs. With that kind of strength advantage, he still wasn't able to stop him. Ouma has been down against Karmazin & I think Rubio; all Jr. Middle's.
I was pretty sure you only had to convince the judges to win a fight I wasnt aware your opinion really mattered oldgringo. Winky was still one the p4p best so to barely beat him is still pretty good as far as im concerned
Coming from a Hopkins fan, not surprised, still bitter are we?
Hopkins was a great champ and one of the alltime greats and Taylor beat him twice.
You guys should be giving Ouma credit, the guy was kidnapped when he was 5 to join the Ugandan army, he has had a fucking tough life, if he could overcome that im sure he could overcome most of the stuff, he is'nt scared of anyone. Ouma took taylors shots he has a damn good chin any middleweight would'nt have been able to take those shots, Taylor comfortably won 11 rounds there, through out the whole fight he was throwing quality punches.
Some of you need to stop the Taylor hate because he beats your favourites. Taylor is supposed to be green and will just get better, watch the future.
Most of my posts last night were drunken disappointment. I have exams, haven't done shit all weekend, I hope to see a great fight either way...and the fight was rather boring. I realize that Taylor beat Ouma thoroughly...I understand who Ouma is...he is one of my favorite fighters around. You can't help but love the guys story and the way he comes to fight every night.
This is just plain old disappointment. I want Taylor to come out and blast someone out for once like he is supposed to. Maybe that's what it'll take for me to stop being so critical of him.

your opinion means nothing, but thanks anyway. sorry about Taylor beating your boy Hopkins by the way. :bottle:
My main man Pernell thought Jermain won pretty clearly.
-myhomie.

Joe C could very well beat taylor, but he would probably also beat hopkins,on activity alone. You talk like Hopkins fought every fight like he did against my other crack smokin homie, tarver. You know why people talk about that fight? Because it was very very out of the ordinary for hopkins.
did you ever see him fight in his prime? are we talking about the same guy here? whats wrong with you?
i make the comparisons to hopkins not to discuss their two fights, more to comment on taylor's lack of dominance. i know that wright and hop were tough opponents, but people talk about this kid like he's some killer and i fail to see that on a fight to fight basis now. agree or disagree...taylor should have had ouma outta there inside of 10? hell...he should have had joppy outta there in 6. maybe he should take on a tomato can just so we can see a spectacular knockout. maybe then i'll be less critical.
Taylor beat Hopkins twice, whats this bullshit about him leaving no question about who is the better fighter?
that was the best part about having him as champion...he barely lost a round during his reign as champion.
i want to see jermain taylor come out and blitz someone...i want to see him knock somebody out. i was ready to see a good fight last night and instead we have to see the jermain taylor hit-n-hold show.

Its true.
Bhop did NOTHING in either of those fights.
