you know it depends the way he said it and the timing but i dont think it offened.
promoters thing they could own people and do what the want them the promoter to do is somewhat offenended.
taking the competition and nationalistic bullshit is offending some because after that they are human.
but as for Arum comment is okay
I find it no more offensive than someone Looking forward to a Basketball match between the USA and Croatia.. or A Canada VS Russia hockey game.. Its a National rivalry.. there is nothing Offensive about competition.. I think you've been sucking the PC Titty a tad too long BOY
It is dumb of him to promote a fight as one nation against another. Why cant it just be one great fighter vs another great fighter.
Jesus Christ, the p.c. crap has taken a new level....it's a thing called promotion.
Look at how many great promotions, great events, and great fights have taken place in history with ethnic pride being at stake.
King's so over the top it's almost amusing (almost).
Just re-watched the Adamek-Ulrich fight
- Adamek very impressive with a 6th round KO.
And here come King, who promotes Adamek, proudly waving the Polish flag. Damn, I didn't even they they had Black Poles.
And he's still got the German flag in his other hand - just in case.
The only racial stuff I'm offended by is Don King's fake patriotism. If I ever saw him waive a Filipino flag, I'd tell him to shove the defiled emblem up his ass.
I hate it when he has the mexican flag. I just want to KO him.

Boxing has long been an ethnic sport.
The rivalries between different nations and cultures are great, as long as it doesn't get out of hand and ugly (Bowe-Golota).
The atmosphere is amazing at fights where so much national pride is at stake.
I would have if he said a spick and a wet-back now that would be offensive.
Can you imagine Arum saying that? LOL The reaction there would be? I am not racist at all but that would just be so uncalled for and so offensive and out of character for a promoter to say.
I'm Puerto Rican and personnally never understood the rivalry either. However I think it may stem from a deep pride for our countries and a want to be able to say that we produce the toughest fighters. Every time I see a Mexican fighter in the ring with a Puerto Rican I know that I'm in for a good fight. I don't take offense to the comment. I would have if he said a spick and a wet-back now that would be offensive. Everyone knows that when the two come together its going to be an all out slug fest fought with heart and pride.
Clearly not a racial comment in any way shape or form, just an acknowledgement of an ongoing (and well known) boxing rivalry between the two nations.
Now let's let this thread die.
if that is offensive to you, then you better not leave the house. because there are kids in the first grade that will hurt your feelings with playground teasing.
i'm actually offended that this is a thread or even a thought. more so insulted and sadden, people get weaker and weaker everyday it seems...........
Being overly PC is more offensive than Arum's statement.
I saw nothing offensive about it.
Before the whole Mexican vs. Pinoy was hit the forums, the Mexican and Puerto Ricans used to fight on here all day and night over which country had the better fighters.
BPP is Amish, so he tends to favor "Slugging" Samuel Yankabitch

I'm not offended by it since I'm not PR or Mexican. If he said black and mexican fighting each other I still wouldn't be offended.
If he said two black guys beating up each other I would be somewhat offended.
"Nothing better than a fight between a Mexican and a Puerto Rican" - Bob Arum
Not really, because throughout history some of the best fights have between between Mexican and Puerto Rican fighters.
Fights like Gomez-Pintor were what they were primarily because of the rabid, nationalistic following that both ethnicities have.
What's offensive about it? Mexican fighters and Puerto Rican fighters always do put on a good fight becasue of their individual national pride....and the animosity, which I've never understood, that they have towards each other. It goes back to Sanchez-Gomez, if not further. That rivalry's been around a looong time.

Anyone offended by Arum's comment after the Margarito Fight? | BoxingScene Community
