Okay, maybe I haven't read through enough threads but I don't think I've seen anyone bring up Margarito's ankle injury that ocurred right before the fight with Clottey. People were worried this fight would be called off yet Margarito fought on and won. I haven't seen the fight but is it possible the ankle hurt his performance? An injured ankle can hurt more than just mobility. Punching power suffers as well.
because were all tired of hearing about the "MOST FEARED WELTERWEIGHT IN THE WORLD" and what we saw last night had nothing to do with injury, and everything to do with the fact that hes a C- fighter.
THE TRUTH IS REVEALED!:owned:
A, B, C, etc. is all relative to the era. Anyone in the top ten who can stay there is an A level fighter. Top 20 would be B level and any lower than that is C or worse.
Clottey lost by DQ, seriously. Stop trashing everyone in the sport. Everyone can't be top ten p4p material. The heavyweight division is worse off than 147. Those big guys lack the skills that many 147 guys have, as well as output.
Watch the fight.
Clottey was done and grasping at straws because Baldomir had so much left in the later rounds.

The guys he has beaten have nice looking records on paper, but who have they beat? Who is Sebastian Lujan's biggest win? What was Clottey's biggest win? You could even look up who they've fought on BoxRec and you still wouldn't be able to come up with a good answer. These guys are all C-level fighters for that very reason. And when a guy like Clottey is struggling with an unknown like Richard Gutierrez, you're not gonna convince me that now Richard Gutierrez was a top fighter and that's why Clottey struggled. Cut the BS already...
Get serious. These guys are top fighters at 147. You can't name 10 fighters that are better in that division. Therefore, they are not C-level fighters. If you are top 10 in the world in any weight, you are not C-level. You are an armchair fan and your scope of how boxers are rated is very narrow.
This is for "Tha Greatest" who gave me bad k, saying I was "fucking delusional" for saying Tony's injury was a weak excuse.
WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito has been itching to get back in the ring.
It has been 10 months since he last fought.
When Margarito (33-4, 24 KOs) twisted his ankle during a training session 10 days ago, he feared his title defense against Joshua Clottey (30-1, 20 KOs) on Dec. 2 in Atlantic City, N.J., on Showtime might be in jeopardy.
"When I twisted the ankle, my first reaction was, 'Oh, no. My fight is gone,'" Margarito said Monday after his open workout at South El Monte Community Center. "But I stayed off it for three straight days. It was pretty swollen that first day, but after icing it for three days the swelling went way down. Now, you can hardly tell that I had hurt it at all."
Margarito sparred six rounds, worked the mitts and bags and showed no ill effects from the ankle injury during his two-hour workout.
Margarito said his entire focus is on Clottey.
"There is no way I will look past Clottey," Margarito said. "It is frustrating when you cannot get the kinds of fights you want. But I am done worrying about it. The fights will come.
"Right now, my total focus and concentration is on Clottey and putting on a great show on Dec. 2."
Well looks like Margarito has finally landed the fight with Williams. Now we can see who's right about Margarito. If he beats Williams, he's one of the best welterweights in the world.
Yeah but if I were Arum I wouldn't let him near Miguel Cotto or a slick boxer.

Probably 'cause Clottey stood in front of him all night and didn't make Margarito chase after him.
Oh that's right, I forgot about his twisted ankle. That would explain why every single fight he throws wide, looping punches and couldn't block a basic right hand to save his life! It all makes sense!
I give Margarito more than a decent shot against Williams.
Just because of styles. When you put two sluggers who both throw ~100 punches around and have decent power, and who both have some defensive trouble, it's really anyone's game.
Put Margarito in with a good boxer who can counter, and it's over.

Margarito didintlook any different injury or not, hes not good, i dont care how you spin it. When Clottey injured his hands, he was VISIBLY a different fighter, margarito always looks like this, just stop it already, hes C fighter.
="I'm going to go ahead and speak for Margatito and assure everyone that Margarito's wrist injury affected his performance in no way, but Clottey's hand injury without a doubt lost him the fight. Margarito is a low level fighter who is lucky to have ranked top ten at 147 at all."
:puppy_dog
Margarito is a C-level fighter and the only ones who don't see it are the guys watching his fights with Margarito-vision glasses on. He has looked great against bums and looked like shit against any decent challenge.
You use such extreme terms about a guy who hasn't lost in 8 years 1t 47, and somehow I'm wearing rose-colored glasses? Get serious. He did not look like 'shit' and he hasn't only looked great vs 'bums'. Bums are guys with 19-12 records. This does not make the majority of his success. Again, you are overstating your case. RING Magazine doesn't rate you top 5 in ANY division if you are a C-fighter.
You are the one who isn't seeing things clearly, plain and simple. As I said, you've let Margarito's more extreme fans cloud your judgement, which is unfortunate.
It is nonsensical to say that a top 5 fighter in any weight class is a C- fighter, unless you are discussing heavyweights. Even then, it's a stretch. Your mind has sadly been clouded by those who appreciate Tony's skills, as well as those who overrate his skills. These men have made you bitter for no real reason. Don't let others affect you in such a way.
Clottey's hand injury is null and void now as it has been discovered also injured his right wrist in the fight.
Since we were talking about 'excuses'.

Nobody is bringing up Tony's injury bec. it wasn't a serious injury which handycapped his performance, as Clottey's.
Espinoza dijo que Margarito fue al hospital porque le dolía la mano y no se quiso tomar riesgos.
“Pero no esperamos que sea algo serio."

Why does everyone act like Clottey is some nobody? He was a very highly respected prospect until the DQ loss to Baldomir, in a fight he was winning.
I think Clottey is not getting enough respect. People are like "Clottey did so good because Margarito is overrated."
No, Clottey did good because Clottey is GOOD.
Has anyone watched Margarito fight before? This is not the first time that he was outboxed early on. He is a known slow starter and usually gives away several of the early rounds.
I have 20 of his fights and it was like many of his fights.
I would love to see his "slow starts" against PBF garner him a few 10-8 rounds.
Floyd came back right after that fight to destroy Castillo
Hah. Well at least I know I don't have to take you seriously anymore.
Also, it's very interesting the rhetoric about Margarito. I can't wait to see how people will react if Williams beats Tony. It will be a Boxingscene parade. But parades shouldn't be thrown over beating a 'C-level' opponent now should they?
Some of you are going to be made to look like fools in the near future.
