Seeing as it was the Lacy win that seemed to gain Calzaghe far more world wide respect, his performance on Saturday night has brought everything back into perspective.
Calzaghe has never beaten anybody special and will never beat anybody special because, quite simply, he won't fight them.
Lacy always was a strong tough guy with clubbing power, with plenty of defensive liabilities.
He's not ruined, but he still needs to work on his many flaws.
Man you're a b****. That's like telling Buster Douglas his win over Tyson meant nothing.
Cause Tyson basically sucked after that.
Typical, I've already pegged you a PBF, PAC nuthugger.
Why can't people learn to be objective.
Tyson at least beat some beltholders 6 years after Tokyo, and twice beat a top contender in Ruddock a year after Tokyo. When did Lacy ever beat a contender as highly regarded at super middleweight as Ruddock was at heavy in the early 90s?
Yes beats 19 over the hill and bum fighter
I see the counselling for your addiction isn't going so well.
I logged on this morning knowing what would be written about Lacy after hearing about how he bombed on his return. As anyone who has ever been in the ring knows, boxing is more mental than physical - if you're mentally shot then you haven't got a chance. There was a chance that Lacy could have used his beating by Calzaghe as a motivational thing ... sadly the opposite (as is often the case) happened. Saturday's fight only serves to show Lacy's state of mind now ... it has absolutely no bearing on 9 months ago.
I've seen it so many times, and it's still sad - especially as Lacy seems a very genuine bloke.
I'd put it among Calzaghe's best performances - he dominated basically every minute of every round against a dangerous, undefeated puncher, & did it easily.
Probably the best fight he was in was against Charles Brewer, the former IBF champ.
Calzaghe won by a pretty wide margin, but Brewer was always in the fight
- a dangerous puncher with a much better defence & a wider array of punches than Lacy.
Brewer had lost his title in a contraversial decision to Ottke & really prepared well for this fight in order to get back a title.
Other top performances were against Byron Mitchell, another former champ who was a bit like Lacy in some ways
- one punch KO artist who was a little limited, although still had a better range of skills.
Mitchell knocked Calzaghe down for the first time in his career, & Calzaghe got up & put him away in the same round - exciting stuff.
The hammering of Sheika was pretty impressive too.
PS. everyone seems to writing Tsypko off as as a nobody, & as far as I'm aware he's a pretty serious up & coming contender who's faced some pretty good opposition.
Didn't see the Lacy fight, but thought it was a dangerous choice when I heard about it
- for a first fight back after a bad beating & a longish lay-off I'd thought they'd get a really easy journeyman for Lacy in order to build his confidence back up.
Sounds like they should of - most of the decent Russian/Eastern European fighters have very good fundamentals, & tend to be very tough.
You always look back and say "Yes, I predicted this, I'm right.. again".
Care to prove it?
Ask Raesaad how many times I've said Lacy was done after the Calzaghe fight. He got mad pissed everytime I said it, which had to be at least 20 times.
....Yeah, you may very well be right. Anyway, who is that tasty little piece in your avy?
thanks, im glad you see it my way. :D
that's Camilla Belle. She's fvckin hot. Watch her movie "When a Stranger Calls".
let's see what happens. Tyspko the unknown unknown doing good.

calzaghe is the reason lacy fought so poorly last night.
calzaghe broke him and i don't think lacy will ever be the same again. he just looked like he didn't believe he could knock the ukrainian out.
i don't believe this. Calzaghe and Tipsy are different fighters. Calzaghe obviously better.
I agree with this...Calzaghe won the fight, and he dominated, so you can't knock him for that.
That said, what's up with his next opponent? he should be fighting Kessler, even if nobody knows who Kessler is in the "States"...should it really matter, you are supposed to fight the best out there.
i agree he should fight kessler and unify the division.
however i think camp calzaghe are playing safe and hoping for hopkins next years
i dont agree with the playing safe tactics at all,but lets just see how it all plays out

calzaghe did his job and his job was to win..
the lacy fight got joe noticed and thats and thats what is important.
it dosnt matter that lacy was nothing but hype........
however i could try and counter your arguement by saying that lacy is now damaged goods after what joe did to him.........i mean thats a fair comment right?

It showed last night Lacy was nothing great so the Calzaghe win means little, and that to the British fight fan WAS THE GREATEST VICTORY for them. It's nothing and Vitali Tipsy proved it last night by winning that fight (cept he got robbed).
thanks for the input.
you gotta realize, the Lacy fight in the eyes of many (especially Brits) is Calzaghes' BIGGEST WIN OF HIS LONG CARREER.
now that a unknown, not so good Vitaly Tipsy beat Lacy and outboxed him like that, DOES the Calzaghe victory seem so great? The answer is NO.
