i have a hard time rating either one since they haven't ventured out into the world and fought over seas.
i know that the money is there for them and all that , but seriously, they've both had comfortable accommodations when it comes to getting ready for a fight, never had to deal with jet lag, time change, fighting in hostile territories, none of that. they get hometown treatment and favortism.
ottke has had more gifts then rich kids at christmas and calzaghe (even though i like him and respect him) he has had basically hand picked opponents, never fighting a real threat, i've said this over and over agains and there are many many who agree that calzaghe's opponents are either too young and not ready to be in the ring with him yet or they're too old and have seen their best days in the ring already. that's frank warrens match making at it's best.
if you're a fan of either you're going to agrue this until you're red in the face, but if you're a boxing fan and more into the history of the sport and don't take an emotional stance on this you'll see the facts of the matter and acknowledge them as truth and not a vehicle to be negative about either guy. it's just the facts that anyone who takes a look can see..........
Outside germany, Ottke's isn't remembered for anything than being boring, and close wins, and robbery. If you rate them on the same level, you haven't seen an classic Ottke fight.
The only thing i am dissapointed about, regarding Calzaghe, is his new search for glory in the US, at a time when the division is as strong as it is now.
I'm just not a buisness fan.
yeah,ottke's just a joke.

Based on the resume alone, i'd say Ottke.
But the close or even severely questionable decissions for Ottke (particularly towards the end of his career) probably tips the scales in Calzaghe's favour.
Still i think there's a tendency to underrate Ottke's abilities when he was in his prime, because of his (perceived boring) style and the dubious decissions.
I'm not convinced a prime Calzaghe would have beaten a prime Ottke. (Calzaghe perhaps 60-40 favourite on neutral grounds).
Ottke would have been stopped by Calzaghe. Ottke depended on speed and defence, but Calzaghe is/was faster than Ottke and definately stronger. He had the workrate to make him quit really.
