Well, I got finished a little while ago with the funeral....it was my honor to be one of these 6 men who carried the champ the last few yards from the hearse to his final resting place, I will never forget that. I will not however forget that the boxing community well very much underrepresented. Myself and Marlon Starling were the only two pro fighters that came to the funeral today and the only other boxing people there today were two former local amateurs from here in Hartford. Bob Yalen came to the wake last night. Where were all the New York Boxing People, though??? Where was Bert Sugar, Al Certo, and Mex Kellerman, etc etc etc. All the former champions that live within driving distance from here??

yea, almost everybody I know is from some way connected to boxing and i have met SOME GREAT people.... also met some terrible people in the game but good or not,. they should have been there...they go on shows talking about how great Pep was, this and that etc etc...but they dont come to the funerallike theywould if a modern day guy passed... I bet if DeLahoya passed away these guys would make the trip.....and part of that, even if they dont mean it that way on the surface, would be because it would more of a "thing to do," or "a place to be" type of event
Maybe because most of these people where more of business thing and boxing thing and was never connected to him as a person.
As for De La Hayo passed away i think some people will come because he is a many with a lot of money and controls GBP which promots many boxers.

A lot of people in boxing know De La Hoya or at least have met him.
I expect Pep was before the time of a lot of modern boxing people. They might feel awkward showing up to the funeral of someone if they've never met him.
It's things like this that make me sad to live in a place such as Houston, basically no boxing history, and just a handful of what I consider to be good, solid and competent people in the game. If I lived within hours of the general area, I'd have been there and I'm just a nobody in the big picture.
Sad shit.
Isn't Foreman from Houston?
I am sure SOME people in the game would only go to more high profile funerals. I think with Pep, though, no matter what, there were many people that didnt go..that SHOULD HAVE

aint that the truth!
people are fickle alot of these people saying good stuff about pep on tv only would go to his funeral if it would give them some publicity and its sad...alot of these so called boxing analysts i dont wanna say their names but they only attend the big fights and they dont even follow the prospects! well i dont know if their are alot but i think you know who i am talking about...the guy has been around boxing a long time and he only attends big fights now and when asked about certain up and comers he had no clue...

It's a damn shame that such a thing had to occur on a already dark day.
Since I was 11, so for the last 10 years, I had the chance to meet some of the greatest people in my life on account of this sport. I've also meet some of the biggest pieces of shit on account of the ring.
One way or the other, it's a damn shame.
R.I.P Mr. Pep

Thats messed up that no one else showed up from the boxing community, im shocked. But, who cares about them, you showed up and showed your respect thats respectfull, of course Pep desreved to be surrouned by more boxing people but beinig there is better then not. Hey, you got a cool website, you've got some cool pics their with great fighters. I never knew you fought Henry Maske. Did you take pictures, i couldn't find them on your website.
Yeah, man, it was surprising... before hand many were wondering would Lamotta make it? Demarco?etc etc. But NOBODY but me and Starling. THE BEST BOXER EVER, pure boxer, and they didnt represent
man reading this brang a tear to my eye....if this is how they pay homage to a champ who did so much for boxing it is a shame!
props to you and the others for attending iceman.
reminds me of the funereal of the great gatsby everyone talked about him but when he was gone only a few cared enough to show to his funeral....
R.I.P will o the wisp.
