I was watching the Tale of the Tape on HBO with Michael Moorer vs. George Foreman, if I heard correctly, Moorer said Teddy Atlas told him that
"Elite fighters are ready to fight anybody at any time"
If the quote is off or wrong, you can correct me
It made me think about the bullshit fighters talk today:
Cotto: not ready for Mayweather
Hatton: I need some more fights
Again both of these guys leave something to be desired in terms of quality opposition THAT POSES A SIGNIFICANT THREAT TO BEAT THEM. I won't downgrade any of their opponents but neither one of them has been in a fight in a long time where there was much of a question as to who was going to win before the fight (I think Hatton and handlers were shocked by how good Collazo was).
What if Mayweather fought JLC One time and then moved back down to 130 after their first fight. What do you think the opinion would be of mayweather. Seriously. Thats all you have to ask yourself about that move to wonder why it was such ill conceived approach.
In less than politically correct terms; that would be called a bitch move.
blackjesus, that is the finest description of the pac/morales rubbermatch i've read so far. props man.:fing02: :headbang:
hahahahaahhaahaa....lololololol. i was hoping someone would notice.
You're taking something Atlas said to inspire Moorer, who was always mentally a baby in need of his pacifier, and trying to apply it as boxing law.
Here's the difference and why I like Hatton as a person. He's honest. I prefer Hatton's honest evaluation of himself and his moving up/down in weight over fighters like Hopkins, Jones, etc who blatantly avoid fights with bullshit excuses.
So basically, if you make up bullshit excuses and never make a certain fight, then you're still elite? But if you're honest and aren't ready for a certain fight YET but plan on making it, then you're not elite?
Hehe. I'm sure Hatton planned on moving up to call out Floyd at 147, but his body looked terrible and he was sluggish at that weight, even in victory. Hatton's frame is just NOT that of a modern welter. So I think he's going to settle into 140 as long as he can. Floyd's wrapped up until late next year now anyway, so what's the diff?
Floyd Mayweather fought Jose Luis Castillo, Jesus Chavez, Diego Corralles, Carlos Hernandez. Never in my life did i hear mayweather ever discuss "im not ready" early in his career. He didint need 90 tuneups to start facing guys people thought could kick his ass.
If your not ready, fine, but dont keep talking about a mayweather fight then not make it happen. Or are we gonna wait until floyd is 36.

on the subject of hatton, anybody know why his team denied a rematch with kostya tszyu? i am pretty sure that hatton said he was down for a rematch after the fight. did he do a lennox lewis(empty promise)?
Anyway, Shanus partly has a point. Pro boxing is all about circumstance. What time/place you are in your career. A big reason why Floyd fans (or cheerleaders as I like to call them) are dissing Hatton now is b/c he signed up to fight The golden boy.
Everybody knew that the ultimate goal of Mayweather was to get a fight with Oscar, but before that was likely, Mayweather was trying to get a fight with Hatton, but Hatton said he wasn't ready.
look at the quote of the thread
For me this is not about who is ducking who or about who didn't make what fight. Mayweather is fighting in what will be one of the biggest fights in boxing, right after becoming the undisputed WW champ. My problem is that Hatton is fighting a title holder that he clearly can beat (which would actually be acceptable in my mind for the title IF he wasn't fighting Castillo after). While fighting Castillo will no doubt draw a good audience and probably be an entertaining scrap, Hatton has to be the clear (and dare I say overwhelming favorite). Castillo is the one moving up in weight and will be the smaller man. Also Hatton is not damaged from being in a serious war like Castillo which definitely drains a fighter. I have no problem with Hatton moving back down to 140 because that is probably where he belongs, but he should be trying to make big fights. After DLH, realistically within 6 months Floyd could be at 140 (he'll probably come in under 150 for the DLH fight even thought its at 154). But I don't think Hatton will really try for it and neither will Floyd. Unfortunately they both seem content to pick off overmatched opponents although you never know Floyd may be starting a good streak if he doesn't retire.
Right Wing Republicans say "Flip Flop" because they are arrogant and can't comprehend that you should be smart enough to correct yourself if new evidence comes into play/are made aware of
Ok, so say he would have chose Baldomir over Hatton, which I'm pretty much positive he would have, then what?
Oscar would have handed out the offer regardless, which he would have accepted.
That's all I'm saying.
I dont even understand what your trying to tell me here when i...and other posters, have already told you what happened. Your sounding alot like ferocity right now, he uses the exact same tactic of arguing in circles even after the evidence was presented in front of him.
There is just no way around it, Hatton ducked floyd, repeatedly, which i wouldnt have a problem with, but hatton wont shut up about fighting him
cotto is actively ducking floyd, but its not a big deal, hes never called him out, see the difference
Why's it so hard for you to speculate?
You clearly believe everything that comes out of Mayweathers mouth, I'm pretty oblivious to the thought of Mayweather choosing to fight Hatton over Baldomir, seeing as he has the tendency of picking the easier fights'n'all, I hate to bring this conversation down to your level, which is hating, no other way about it, but you've proved to be a fucking idiot in the past, so I won't treat you any different now.
It was Hattons promoter who made the statement. Infact, the funny thing is, is that team mayweather never even elaborated on the subject in chats etc. Only awknowledging that they did offer them the fight.
Im a pretty logical thinker, if it was just coming out of mayweathers mouth, i wouldnt care, but it wasnt, IT WAS HATTONS PROMOTER.
I even provided you a link to the legit evidence, what more do you want?
It's a fact that Hatton said after fighting Tszyu that he didn't want to fight Mayweather until sometime in 2006, and then this year elaborated that the 3 fight contract he signed with HBO would not allow for a Mayweather fight so it's pushed back to '07.
I don't think there's anything wrong with that or they way he's been honest about it, but the bottom line is that him putting it off may lead to it not happening at all.
Floyd could retire, or be up a few weight classes.
If he loses out on the fight because of putting it off, he has no one to blame but himself.
thats got nothing to do with the topic....
and Hatton-Mayweather and Taylor-Calzaghe are some of the bigger fights of this era so...
oh I agree. among the biggest possible. but they won't happen and it won't be the fault of the Americans.
LET'S TYPE IN CAPITAL LETTERS BECAUSE IT MAKES OUR POINT SEEM CLEARER BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND.
Floyd would choose Oscar over Hatton 7 days a week, after Floyd beat Baldomir is when Oscar said 'let's get it on', now Hatton being at 147 would have made NO difference to what Floyd has already done and is about to do.
Which was go for the undisputed WW belt, and he's about to get a huge pay day and secure his place in history in what is pretty much the biggest fight of our lifetime.
Hatton being in the mix at 147 doesn't change this at all.
What does any of this have to do with negotiations that were going on in june, AFTER oscar said he wasnt fighting anymore all year? Oscar said he wasnt fighting for the rest of the year, so they go after hatton who hadnt moved back down yet, come on man.
