This for me would have been the ultimate fight. The Golota who thrashed Bowe against the Wlad who thrashed McCline, Mercer and Botha. The fight would probably have ended in disqualification but I would be curious to see how Wlad would have handled the aggresiveness of Golota. I do not believe Wlad would have been able to handle the amount of punishment that Golota dealt to Bowe but Wlad's offense is far superior to what Bowe's offense was.
Here is a quote taken from a recent interview with Buddy Mcgirt:
A couple of weeks ago, you told me that Andrew Golota asked you to be his trainer. What's going on with that?
I haven't heard anything yet. When Andrew came to my gym, he trained here for 2 weeks and asked if I would be his trainer - and he left. Then, he called me last week and said he still wanted me to train him. But nothing is definite yet.
I am surprised that Golota decided to leave Sam Colonna. Colonna is Polish just like Andrew is and Colonna lives in Chicago which is where Golota lives and prefers to train.
Personally, I think Colonna sucked as a trainer and was terrible at preparation on the day of a fight. If Golota wants to legitimately come back he should hire a good trainer. Buddy Mcgirt is not the right guy for Andrew. Mcgirt is very overrated as a trainer.
its hard to say wlad isnt good against big heavies.. but vitali ducked golota saying he wasnt ready
I also heard that story. After Golota's draw against Byrd, Golota wanted a rematch and Byrd was unwilling to give him one. Then Golota supposedly contacted Vitali after Vitali defeated Sanders for the WBC belt and Vitali supposedly said to Golota that he is not ready to fight Andrew yet. What Vitali meant by that is anyone's guess.
I dont think bowe was overated if he could have stayed fit he would have beat golata and i think in 1992-1993 he would have beat lewis. I feel that bowe was one of the biggest wasted heavyweight talent.
I agree. he was a very talented big man. had an excellent jab,, big right hand,,,,,vicious upper cut,,,threw punches in combos to both the head and body. there was a big clamor for him and lewis to get it on as they were the best 2 heavyweights at one time and many did think he'd beat lewis but unfortunately he ducked him instead. would have been a great fight
Tall guys with enough size ROSS PURITY a big bum Mcline 10 rounds corrie sanders davaryll williamson knocked him down should of got a rematch or at least a draw.. ill see if i can find the link about golota but really idont care becuase its old information, it was after the kirk johnson fight
purrity was 6'3 and smaller than wlad,,,as was corrie sanders at 6'4 225...he's 3-0 3 kos against bigger men,,,period,,and that williamson knockdown was an off balance counter shot when wlad missed a big right hand. he got up clear eyed and dominated the rest of the round forcing wiliiamson to hold on. willamson did nothing but run most of the rest of the fight
Bowe would have very little chance of beating Lewis.
Lewis had it over him big time. Watch the 88 olymipic final; Bowe is thoroughly dominated by Lewis. Even if you discount the well documented evidence that Bowe was sh*t scared of fighting Lewis, in the ring Lewis' speed and boxing brain dominates big daddy.
As for the Wlad-Golota fight. I think Golota has a chance, especially if his head is screwed on as you could feasibly argue in the 1996 version. But would he have much chance against the 2006 Wlad??
Did you see any of those fights?
Wlad was whipping Puritty's ass when he gassed and started collapsing all over the ring due to exhaustion. Fritz Sdudnek jumped in and stopped the fight.
Mcline didn't do a fucking thing before Wlad stopped him. It was a boring technical mismatch where Mcline was hesitant to let his hands go.
Williamson landed 1 right hand and Wlad was more off balance than anything. He got right back up and was ready to fight.
i saw the williamson and the sanders both i thought he did not win.i did not see but how the hell can u loose to purrity...wlad is good i think only peter can beat him right now,

lol,,,,you never cease to amaze me. youre 0-2 ( again). A vitali/golota match was never talked about and wlad has never lost to a heavy as big or bigger than him. he's 3-0 with 3 ko;s against bigger guys. wolfgramm....mccline and jefferson. the 3 losses were to guys actually smaller than him

WTF?
Bowe was 28 years old and had been a pro for 6 years when they fought. Past his prime my ass......more like never was.
How about you find a single meaningful victory outside of Holy.
bowe was a shot 28 yrs old. you really think golota fought the same bowe that beat holy 2 of 3? he was clearly not the same fighter. bowe hasnt beaten many good fighters and I dont rank him even near the level of great but when he was at his best he was very skilled and had good power. unfortuntely for him much like corrie sanders he liked the kitchen a lot more than the gym and it cost him big time
he was a very good fighter in his prime but he was well past it when golota fought him.

Bowe was overrated, Chief.
Probably the most overrated Heavyweight of all time IMO...even if Golota beat him without the DQ's it means nothing.
He was a taylor made sparring partner of Holyfields who never had a single meaningful victory outside of those fights.
I dont even know why you responded to such an iditotic statement. bowe wasnt overrated. he was a very good fighter in his prime but he was well past it when golota fought him. golota isnt a big puncher and is a slow starter,,,,wlad would have done a lewis/brewster on him if he didnt quit first
If you didn't vote Golota you have no brain. Golota was at his prime in 2006 and could have taken over the heavyweight divison. He easily shatters Wlads glass jaw. He could have beaten Riddock Bowe twice. Man people are too obsessed with the Klitschkos to make a smart reply.

Wlad. Golota couldn't fight backing up and that Wladimir always moved forward. It would probably be an early stoppage.
any version of wlad tko1 over golota. golota would have a panic attack every time he faced someone with speed and power. he'd find a way out of there whether by knockout or dq

If Golata had Sam Collona in his corner, it'd be a huge night for Andrew Golata. The 2002 Wladimir isn't shit compared to him now. That Wladimir didn't know how to deal with adversity, tie a man up when he got close, or defend himself at all. Golata was too good a fighter for that Wladimir. Now though, the new Wladimir would do to Golata what Lennox did to him, because now they are the same kind of fighters.
Supposedly Golota has not retired and he is in Vero Beach working out at Buddy Mcgirt's gym. Rumors are that he will try and schedule a fight sometime in the spring. Personally after that no show he pulled against Brewster, he should just get the eff out of the fight game. That was his last chance and he blew it bigtime.
