First, I'm surprised to see so little threads about the Holyfield-Oquendo fight tonight.
OK, the question is what kind of 'game-plan' does Evander need to defeat Oquendo? Also, what can he do to look good in his victory without taking too much punishment?
My keys to victory for Evander are as follows: (1) Evander needs to get warmed up, get on the offensive early on, and establish a good pace. (2) Work the jab, mix up some combos, and attack the body. (3) Go for the early KO if possible.
Post your gameplan/strategy for Evander( or for Oquendo if you're a fan).
Forget the late runs, Holyfields gone to well too many times and now it unfortunately I think is dried up. IMO, his best chance to win tonight is to establish himself early, attack the body, and try for the early stoppage.
This is clearly the path of least resistance but I just think that Fres is too fast and slick early on...he tends to slow down later in the fight and I agree that it simply may be too late.
Wishful thinking.......that has'nt worked in a while.Hell the only wins he has had in years was a wierd stoppage with Rahman and that shit some call a fight with Ruiz.He is and has been done for many years now.
Yeah I know, I just wish the old bat would realize what 99% of the fans do.
His gameplan should be to lose in as most embarassing fashion as possible so he realizes how shot he is and retires while he still has a few braincells left.
I think if Holyfield wants to win he is going to have to fight the best fight he can and hope that Oquendo is slightly off tonight. IMO Oquendo is just too slick for an over the hill Holyfield. IF Holyfield has any chance he has to attack the body and hope to slow Oquendo down late. Since I think Oquendo will take most of the early rounds regardless of strategy, I think Holyfield needs a late round stoppage to win. He has to remember to conserve some of his own energy so he can make the late push. On the other hand he may hae absorbed too much punishment early to make a late run.

Come on now, this is the Holy Warrior we are talking about here, the only gameplan he needs is to believe in god and himself and he will take good old Fast Fres in no time.

How good is Evander’s stamina? Fres hasn’t got the best and usual fights like a tomato during the later rounds. We’ll be guaranteed dirty tactics by way of Holy holding and pulling Fres’ head down, couple of headbutts to boot to.
So in a nutshell, Holy will try and wear down Fres and go for a late KO. Will it work? Who knows.
Exactly - that's what Holyfield's gameplan has to be - get close to Fres, tie him up, bully him, butt him every chance you can and throw low blows and rabbit punches like... ...well, like Evander Holyfield. I think he actually has a decent chance if he does what just seems to come naturally to him.
Forget that boxing crap - Holy can't beat Fres at that.

C'mon, I want to hear strategy and fightplans not "he should retire" posts. Whether you agree with his decision to fight on or not, the fact is Evander will be in against a very capable opponent tonight and I would like to hear some boxing analysis how how he can win this fight.
im sorry but i honestly dont see him winning this fight. he was great in his prime but its too late for him now

He will never win this fight IMO..........He has'nt thrown combos or gone to the body on an opponent that did not just stand there like his last one in many years..........He wins if he decides not to show up.Fres is fast and slick and will easily outbox Holyfield tonight.........my prediction IF he does not end up getting a TKO late is Fres 99-91 assuming this is fairly judged and is a 10rd fight which I think it is.
Evander looked very sharp in his last fight albeit against a CCF(certified club fighter) throwing decent combinations and starting early. I think if Evander shows some of the same traits which he did if his last fight and can get off to a good start then there's no reason why he can't win this fight.
My prediction: I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Holyfield by late round KO.

he needs to just go home
