Sometimes its funny to see such wasteful advertising. Take for example Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s No. 8 Chevrolet that will carry a special paint scheme this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway as he attempts to gain ground in the Chase For The Nextel Cup. The rear deck of his race car will sport a decal promoting the Nov. 18 HBO Pay-Per-View super featherweight boxing match between Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales.
Maybe that wouldn't be such a bad idea, except Nascar is a Redneck sport, and chance are that the fans of Nascar won't
be interested in watching a Mexican and a Filipino get it on in the ring. And let me guess, do we expect to see a bunch of Nascar fans sitting ringside waving the Confederate flag? I'd like to know what idiot thought it would be a good idea to advertise on a Nascar the sport of Boxing.
To me its a complete waste of money. I also find it funny that someone would rather give money to Nascar than to the Boxing world. Countless boxing websites that could use the money from the advertising, but some genius figures the money would be better wasted on Nascar. Never mind helping boxing websites that actually put fans in the seats and help create PPV revenue.
The problem with Boxing websites today is they give too much for free. People in the industry need to get the priorities right. Stop advertising on Nascars and start taking care of the real backbone of boxing. Without boxing websites, Boxing wouldn't be going anywhere these days....especially not on the back of Nascars.
Do you think Nascar would waste adverting revenue on Boxing? Not likely. You got to wonder what kind of idiot would want to advertise boxing on a Nascar? My message to that idiot would be.... advertise on Boxing websites, not Nascars. Or at least saturate your ads on Boxing websites before you do something stupid like advertise on Nascar.
Adverstising on any other sport than boxing is better, because boxing is in a slump now, so they need to expand not just reach out to their dieing fan base. Rednecks would l0ve Mexicans, I drove I-95 South Carolina and there was some billbroad Mexican guy called Pedro, following me up until North Carolina. I dont think you understand how many Mexicans are in the South too.
Damn, Raza is every where. It all goes back, we want our land back and we're taking it back, lol.
What did Pedro do to you after he cought up to you? Doesn't seem like you finished the story.
Is that you in the picture?
I have to agree. Millions of eyes watch Nascar and their TV ratings are higher than most boxing events. A little bit of research would have really helped that article out. Was there any research done? Like who paid for the ad? Was it HBO? Was it Top Rank? Was it a third-party sponsor?
Actually, who cares! Is there so little boxing out there that someone has to write an article being critical of advertising a major boxing event to a new area of business.
First off, to class Nascar viewers as rednecks is a stupid statement in itself. There is currently plans in the works for a Nascar track to be built in New York because the sport is growing. We have a lot of Nascar fans on this very forum.... a boxing forum. How would anyone know what the majority of Nascar fans watched. It hurt my eyes to read that.
I believe that it is now the #1 spectator sport in America----how can it hurt to have them advertise our favorite sport----especially these days!!!. Some of your latest articals have bordered on bigotry Asian---I'm dissapointed and expected better.

Nascar is becoming mainstream and isn't as redneck as you imagine. In any case putting decals on race cars is a bit overrated as a means of advertising. I have see two separate interviews of beer company executives claim that they could not document any increase in revenue or profits due to support of Nascar or CART. Now if beer companies can't sell more beer then how the hell is anybody else going to get some benefit from it? :duh:

exactly and didn't jay-z just have have dale earnhardt jr. and the chick in the video. You think he did that because he such good friends with them, that's a smart move. Tapping into other markets to find a new audience. but i do agree that advertising should be spent on some of these boxing websites too, but you can't knock Nascar. Black people like race car driving too, people need to quit putting things in a box.
i do agree that promoters and people in adverstising should do more with backing websites though, they do generate a lot of money when it comes to hyping up fights. some proper help would be appreciated.
Yep. Boxing promoters should look into Myspace ads. It did wonders for Borat, seriously.
they're trying to get cross over fans, and with the hype of an action fighter like Pacquiao he appeals to almost every casual boxing fan, even Nascar fans. you gotta spend money to make money, sometimes it's spent in odd places. it's worth a shot, the Nascar population is huge, if they could get a small percentage to buy the fight out of curiosity they could bank a pretty buck from that ad. it's all a numbers game, some add up and some don't, results will tell.

This article (or whatever you want to call it) is asinine.
Why are they "like idiots" for promoting an event? Why are they "like idiots" for trying to tap into a new, fiercly loyal (esp with their $$$) group of fans. As a matter of fact, Nascar fans are so loyal that I guarantee you enough Earnhardt Jr fans will order the fight, who ordinarily would not have, to pay for the ad and then some.
It's a little outside of the box, but I don't think it's a bad idea at all, actually.
Though I must admit that most who watch Nascar are whites, your phrase was just way out of line.
I'm a Filipino and I do watch Nascar SOMETIMES. Millions of people watch Nascar and it is them that they try to reach out to. They do not need to reach out to regular boxing fans as most of them already know about this match. They just try sell to non-boxing fans that there is another great action-packed sport out there besides Nascar.
I aggree.
A report was done on which population views nascar and in this video the guy in the light blue shirt said that 10 percent of nascar is hispanic, and the guy in the dark blue shirt goes crazy. So to add to what flashgordon said, these small percent and the rest of nascar audience is who the advertisment is aimed at.

I saw a few rednecks on the DLH-Mayorga fight...lol
btw the thread started is retarted
What have you heard about Victor Ortiz lately? He is my favorite prospect.
I've watched a few runs of Nascar, and i dont think its a bad idea to advertise their. A few weeks ago i was watching a Nascar show -i think it was a pre show or info about Nascar- and one commentator was saying how Nascar has gained in popularity and his inclueded the latino population. Of course advertising on boxing websites is a great idea but like somone said, as a boxing website they still have to talk about the fight.
....Your right, and even though I'm not a fan of Nascar in the least, we have alot of posters on here who are fans of both sports. My neighbor ,who is my only real local boxing ally, is also a big fan of Nascar. BTW, he's Puerto Rican.
You have a Puerto Rican neighbor and you haven't moved. PB I am surprised at you. Just kidding a bit out of Boredom. Is BPP your neighbor?

Everything helps, I think Doghouse is just mad cus they wanted the money but the real waste woulda been to give it to boxing websites as people that go to boxing websites already know about the event and are likely to watch. And the event gets "free" publicity anyways because they gotta keep the public updated on the top events.
thats an unfair assesment about nascar, its a fast growing sport and if millions upon millions are making it that growing sport, you cant classify them all as white rednecks, because thats just not true.
