Surprise, surprise. Just two days after telling **********.com that he was "turned off" and "not feeling" a showdown with undefeated pound for pound Picasso Floyd Mayweather Jr, Oscar De La Hoya once again contacted ********** to fill us in on the offer he made to Floyd Mayweather last night. According to the Golden Boy if Mayweather was being offered $1 before he is now being offer 95 cents, which sounds a lot better than the 50 cents he was talking about yesterday, but there is a catch. If Mayweather wants to make the biggest fight in boxing, he has one week to accept Oscar's offer and he can't fight in February as he plans to. Full exclusive interview to follow shortly, so stay tuned. In the meantime we encourage our readers to enjoy the last (real) interview Oscar conducted, which appeared on ********** Monday morning FOR FREE.
This is why this fight will probably never happen and why boxing will remain a fringe sport for the rest of my life. I am not going to say who needs who more because in reality neither one of them needs the other. Both of these guys have more money than most people will ever see, both could still make profitable (albeit less profitable) fights with other people, and they both huge egos that can't comprehend that they are not indispensable. Clearly DLH has the leverage in terms of selling a fight...if he can do 900,000 buys against Mayorga it is no exageration to think that this can do 1,500,000. Clearly DLH could probably do 1,000,000 or more against a guy like Trinidad but to make the MOST money he needs the #1 p4p guy who is Floyd. In my honest opinion I think it would be fair for DLH to take a bigger portion of the profits like 60-40 because he is bringing in a significant portion of the PPV that simply wouldn't be there without him. Also if the fight is at 154, DLH will be the title holder, not Floyd so that is another reason for Oscar. I don't like that DLH seems to be looking for an out, but if I was him I would rather fight a washed-up Trinidad (who I beat once already) for slightly less money than to deal with Floyd and the possiblity of retiring on a losing note.
"what has he done to deserve to be in the ring with me?" (nothing, oscar, he is just unbeaten, 5 times champ in 4 divisions, 3 times lineal. I am sure Mayorga deserved it much more after his impressive showings against Spinks and Tito ...)
The second Tito put the wooping on Mayorga, Mayorga became target #1, as usual he needs to fight Tito's left overs.
oscars good for boxing and his stable of boxers..yea i don't like his bitchfull games but what do you expect. he had a good teacher in arum. i'm getting a kick out of the way he's treating loudmouth floyd .
I hope he is at least good for HIS fighters.
I expected something different since he was a fighter, actually he still is a fighter, but again I was wrong. And again it is good it is Floyd getting shafted and not say Morales. (mind its not that I hate floyd, but at least you know he is not going to get too hurt and plus he speaks like a prick most of the times).
DLH sells way more tickets, PPV's or anything else, than Floyd. If you look at it from Oscars point of view, he's the draw. Why should he let the other guy talk shit, and expect to get the most money? Floyd needs Oscar more than the other way around, so Oscar's just trying to dictate the terms, just like Floyd is. The only difference is that Floyd is making a fool of himself doing it, because he has very little leverage.
Oscar terms include Floyd not fighting in February, which is ridiculous and bad for the sport.
Doesnt Oscar sound even more ridiculous than Floyd, when he says things like
"what has he done to deserve to be in the ring with me?" (nothing, oscar, he is just unbeaten, 5 times champ in 4 divisions, 3 times lineal. I am sure Mayorga deserved it much more after his impressive showings against Spinks and Tito ...)
"he is not p4p no.1... my fighter is!" (what a surpriese!)
this is even bigger bullshit than Floyd claiming he is the best ever.

That's not using leverage. Using leverage is saying that you only getting X amount of dollars for this fight on this date. You don't tell a man he got to drop his date and say you don't really want to fight him because of the way he was ACTING, when you have fought bigger assholes with less skills previously. Then he gon say that he is offering half of what he previously offered. F*CK Delahoya!!
yo i like scar but htat is the gayest shit I have ever heard in my ife. He did not like the way floyd was acting so he does not deserve to make a lot of money fighting me?!.....that is fucking silly. yo ocar....you fight for a living. this is not ballet or a hand shaking contest. who cares if he s a gentleman or not. It aint a gentle sport. His asswhole ways will probably hel to sell tickets. that shit is just flat out dumb

Plus, he didn't like how Floyd was acting, but he will fight Mayorga. That is so lame, Mayorga acts up way more than Floyd. And they say Floyd handpicks his opponents....

as for the situation with de la hoya mayweather and mosley goes mosley wont be fighting floyd i have herd some rumors it will be going down like this.
mosley-spinks feb
mayweather-dell hoya may.
Fact: Mayweather-Judah PPV - 375,000 buys Anyone have the numbers against Baldy?)
DLH-Mayorga - 925,000 buys
Fact: The audience booed, and left early When Mayweather tapped and ran against Baldy.
DLH won by spectacular KO against Mayorga. (Can anyone say, they would favor Mayweather to KO Mayorge?)
Fact: Pro boxing is entertainment and business first, sport second.
Conclusion: If Mayweather wants to make bucks, and secure his legacy, he needs DLH a lot more than DLH needs him.
Yes he won every second of every round, but still it was boring...I bought the PPV and was recording it on my DVR, at the end I just erased that shit...
Thats some funny shit because I did the same thing the whole card was BS and it took to much time on my DVR.
not only that. it might make floyd a little rusty... smart. kinda evil too.. i actually feel bad for floyd. is that bad?
Well, by May 2007, Oscar will have fought once in the 2.5 years since the Hopkins fight in September 2004. Floyd will have had five fights since then, starting with the "exhibition" vs. Bruseles in January 2005.
Like other posters are saying, it's all about Oscar getting the coveted Cinco de Mayo date for himself and Floyd and preserving the February date for Mosley (since the war with Arum is on full blast, forget about Mosley vs. Margarito, it will most likely be Mosley vs. Cintron or perhaps Collazo).
I still feel this is mostly negotiating, but Oscar (and HBO for that matter) surely want this fight set well in advance so they can promote it for more than a couple of months (a February fight between the two or just for Mayweather in the interim prohibits this). They want to make this bigger than Lewis-Tyson, which, while not possible, is encouraging. Boxing needs this fight. This fight, along with some kind of heavyweight unification in 2007 would be great for the sport.
I wanna see Mosley-Mayweather at 147. I don't know how good Floyd will be at 154. I don't think DLH-Mayweather will be at 147. Floyd walks around at around 150. I think Mosley would be a better fight for Floyd.
Wait he wants February for Shane Mosley. Who's Mosley gonna fight Floyd?
I doubt we'll see...
Mosley vs Mayweather in February
De La Hoya vs Mayweather in May
One of them is gonna have to fight someone else.
Boxing is a business idiot. I did not watch the fight but as many posters have said, people started leaving even before it ended. Only PBF fanatics would buy that crap on PPV.
PPVs don't get that many sponsors. They rely mainly on the number of PPV buys. If he keeps on putting on that kind of crap that evrybody mentioned, nobody will buy his future PPVs. That will slice a big chunk out of his purse. No promoter would pay him big money if they know they'll never get it back.
you have said enough
You cant put on a dismal showing by winning every round you idiot.
