Just wondering how many members here are armchair fans (nothing wrong with that, there are many sports i watch from the sideline and never actually do) and how many actually box whether to actually fight or just for the training ?
I ask because of all the PBF hate.
As a boxing fan, sure he can be a dick, you can certaintly take him or leave him.
BUT AS A BOXER, i love watching ever second of him in the ring to learn from his technical adaptability and pure structure. Which boxer can't learn something from his different types of defence ? etc
beautiful post. that was one of the best posts i've ever seen here.
you highlight a very good point. alot of people forget that boxing is a business, first and foremost. alot of people are oblivious to the fact that promoters like to BUILD up a big fight and make maximum capital. pro boxing is NOT about glory or legacy. if they happen, great. but that's just a by product. a managers job is to get the most reward with the least amount of risk for his fighter.
Don't tell this to gary shaw. :lol1:
mayweather is doing it with margarito. hatton is doing it with castillo and arum is doing it to cotto. hatton is a star. he does not need to pay his dues anymore like say a castillo/corrales or a non-olympian has to do in order to get a title shot. he is a hot, hot commodity. all the legacy, what's right, what's wrong is just fan bullshit.
I disaggree about Castillo and Corrales, they both have paid their does years ago, but both these guys don't back down to no one.
pro boxing is a business. a down and dirty business and what it's about is making money and minimizing the risks.
True, very true!
Perfect example, Morales is a Bob Arum fighter, and as we know Pacquiao is going to fight Morales, Arums fighter. But, Arum was supposed to promoter Pacquiao after the Morales fight, which goes to show how right you are. And when Morales wins, i would like to see him leave Arum since, that just shows that boxing is just a businiess even though Morales has shed blood and made money for both Arum and himself, that i'd think Arum would have the respect to go after Pacquiao after the Morales fight and not be talking about promoting him before his fighters fight.
All you have to do is notice the tone of most of these posts and it soon becomes clear who the nerdy-boys are. They think they can hide behind a computer screen but the truth is as soon as they say something they reveal themselves. A nerdy-boy's view of the world is totally different to a real boxer.
So do you box or not?

Great post, thanks for sharing! The bold part, is what i used to do after the first time i went to the gym. If you remember USA Tuesday Night Fights, sure they had some great fights, but they also had some boring fights -like any network- but i always stayed through the whole show no matter who was fighting or how borring the fight was, i was geared to learn from every and any boxer. I learned a lot too. Messed up thing for me is that i never stuck with boxing when i was younger, it wasn't till i was older that i finally got an amature fight. But through out the years i've been in and out of gyms, meaning i've quite so many times and gone back many times that i lost track of how many times i've quite boxing only to go back again. Thats why i too respect the boxer and for the effort the put into their craft.
USA had my full, devoted attention ever Tuesday during that run, despite Al Albert's cheesey delivery and I still love Sean O'Grady. ESPN's Thursday night fights also had me locked in.
Good times.
i just go to the gym i go to every friday and just train and spar with either the coach or other guys in there, its just a fun hobbie i like to do and watch. Great workout as well.
6-6 terrible and your a PR. You didn't do your Island proud. I haven't boxed in about eight years but I was 21-5 as an amatuer but I got jumped and got my retina detached and that is why I have a squinty eye in my pic.
not rly. when i first got started ther was hardly anybody in my weight class, so i had to fight all the experienced kids. then after my first few matches was when i started handin out the ass whippin's.
and in the ring, i think mayweather's untouchable, possibly de la hoya, possible mosley could take him out. but that's slim. but outside of the ring, i think he's a f*ckin scumbag
i do a lil something.
i can't stand floyd, but i do love watching his performances in the ring. but just not enough for me to want to contribute to his ppv numbers since he seems to act like an asshole much of the time. and some of his little side videos really show off his pomposity.

yeah, I agree, goodpost.
hitting the bags is a great stress relief for me.
all the anger, stress, hatred, other negative feelings are slightly overcome after simple boxing session.
I am an armchair fan right now. Id like to start boxing soon though. I dont intend on having a future in it or anything. I just want to learn more about it and spar eventually.
I've been boxing for about a year and a half now and I love it.
It helps me not go out and party as much. But more importantly, I love being a student of the sport.
i did for a while but then i had to stop cuz i got bad grades. and then the gym closed shortly after cuz the trainer had a baby.but he's re-opening up again in january. i compiled a record of 6-6(sumtimes i say 8-4 to sound kooler)
