Nov 18th will feature marquee fighters for both sports, Morales vs Pac III and Hughes vs GSP II in UFC 65.
This night's PPV numbers might be a huge indicator as to the trend or MMA advancing on Boxing.
Is Boxing still combat sport King or does MMA have more of a foot hold or even now an edge on Boxing?
Either way this nights number can be very telling for the future direction of these respective sports.
If they didn't do at least 350 thousand this proves that people only pay to see Morales win.
lol so they mysteriously got there money back after morales lost? your dumb.
I think ufc did better im guessing 650,000 ppv...and the pacman fight did 250,000 ppv
Do you have any links that suggest these might be the numbers? I believe UFC 60 had 600,000 buys so I can believe that UFC 65 had 650,000. But where did you get the Pac-Morales numbers from?
*Note I gave the link to the UFC 60 buy numbers in an earlier post on this thread.
Good thread, except that I wouldn't use the Pac-Morales fight as an indicator of the popularity of boxing. Both fighters have huge following of their own, and the fight is important in the boxing world, but this is not one that I see as having mainstream appeal (at least in America which is all I can speak of). If the Mayweather-Baldomir fight does really well and Pac-Morales does not sell as much as the UFC card, then that would not suggest that boxing is losing ground to UFC.
(I admit to knowing next to nothing about UFC so I don't know how important a fight that is.)
Actually I think its a fair matchup since both fights are highly anticipated in there repective sports.
Again I'm not saying one is better than the other or that one is going to out sell the other.
All I'm saying is that what "IF" UFC 65 beats or equals Pac-Morales III on the same night then it can be our best indicator for how big if at all what the MMA-Boxing mainstream gap is?
Also I'm not sure perhaps BigPoppa has better resources than I do but UFC 60 had 600,000 buys?

this thread just inspired me to purchase the pac/morales PPV card on nov 18th just for my beloved sport, besides morales and pacman are 2 of my faves:)
hope ya do the same!!
wats up amara or should i say eulid. how do u like this site?
i think that the pac fight will draw more folks. with the mexican verses the philippino the two together have a fan base bigger than MMA altogether. country verses country means a lot more viewers. and these two have a massive fanbase in the USA too.
nothing against MMA but heads up against Pac-Morales 3, Pac-Morales 3 wins easily in the numbers game.

i personally, really want to see both, so i have to agree that this would be the best indicator available today if you were to look for some figures on which is more popular today... as far as fans who are equally knowledgable about both boxing and mixed martial arts..

Its interesting because in both respective sports they are highly anticipated fights. I will probably order both and Tivo them however I'm not sure which I'll watch live. I'm looking forward to both fights.
However if UFC has better numbers than a huge fight like Pac-Morales then it could be a harbinger of the usurping of Boxing by MMA similar to that of MLB by the NFL.
From what I've observed most people tend to like MMA vs. boxing because they believe it is more raw of a sport. They like to see guys go down. Most people really don't understand the art of boxing therefore prejudge just from looks. They see the size of gloves between the two sports and automatically donwplay the "pillows" used on boxers. Not understanding that these "pillows" are mere oz's covering mutiple 100 punches landing on anothers face or body. Not hating on MMA, I think it's awesome. A lot of people are into the MMA because of the hype surrounding it. IMO i think the pac/morales fight will beat out the MMA fight.
Same here boxing is my first love. I'll definately go for the boxing match. I like both but don't feel like watching an MMA fight stopped after one guy catches a good one to the jaw.
