Marquez is next scheduled to face Jimrex Jaca, a fight that is really just a financial exploitation of the Filipino-Mexican rivalry. If you're hoping for a competitive fight or some more clarity on Marquez's future, you might have to wait till next year.
At 126, I don't know what Marquez's options would be. He could go to Indonesia and drop another close one to Chris John again. To lure John out of Jakkarta, it would require an astronomical figure to do so. One that Marquez's limited momentum and drawing power couldn't create. Robert Guerrero is an attractive option, good luck on getting Gary Shaw to sign that one.
His best options are at 130, which is territory out of his comfort zone :ugh:
If he is serious about doing something memorable in his career, he better put on the extra pounds and get cracking. Fights with Valero, Barrios, or a Pacquiao rematch would all reignite his career that had alot of momentum following the sizzling Pacquiao bout.
Marquez fails to understand that performing valiantly in a close draw against a name opponent does not mandate serious purses. Bernard Hopkins found out something similar. He was under the impression that having an alphabelt entitled him to a multi-million dollar payday. Only defeating Felix Trinidad got him anything. The only way to get some leverage for big paydays is to beat big names. Marquez has yet to do that.
If you got the opportunity to replace the business unsaavy Nacho Beristain as commander of his ship, what would you do?
although it will take a huge amount for John to fight outside of Indonesia, it wont be astronomically non viable ...
maybe within $$$250k, maybe GBP can make some magic here...
JMM should go north and fight Juarez then go after the belts ...
I believe in Marquez's case His valiant draw was a win , he basically exposed Manny P's weakness , boxing, something manny does not do He is a highly conditioned athlete with a great chin and the most basic one two punch combination i have ever seen. Marquez exposed that If marquez would have won that match which he did He would of gone on to beat Morales and Barrera for sure. I do agree with some comments about Nacho(manager) who made some unsavy decisions in question to a possible rematch for more money but regardless People who know boxing know manny p is not a complete boxer , He is the Epitimy Of a Julio cesar chavez sr. IM NOT COMPARING as boxer Im making an analogy A FIGHTER WHO CARRIES THE WEIGHT OF A COUNTRY ON THEIR shoulders which makes him a very marketable fighter. Marquez on the other hand has yet to recieve that notariety , although he is a outstanding boxer , think about it you get dropped 3 times in the first round you come back and win round after round the great manny p should have not let it go past the 3rd if he was so good. This fight coming up on October is not a fight which will prove anything obviously if you know boxing you know Oscar "Golden Boy" is his new manager and he's not about to go all out and spend high dollars on a "NAME Opponent " for marquez on his first bout with him. He's giving him a decent boxer who will last in their to show marquez is the man which he dont need to prove Once Manny P finishes his fight with Erick Morales , he will be signed on with golden boy and and Im more than sure there will be a MARQUEZ ,MANNY P rematch to finally solidify any doubts fans have of marquez and manny's ability.......And if you were smart you would put your money on MARQUEZ ..he would win that fight with ease.....on to his brother Rafael Marquez another champ he should go up and fight Israel Vasquez that would be agreat fight
Since they're all under GBP, wouldn't it be great to have a JMMarquez-Guzman underneath Pacquiao-Barrera 2? now that's PPV! then the winners and losers fight each other thereafter...
JMM should rematch chris john. what kind of fighter believe he won but refuse to rematch his conqueror
Yeah he should. But i think enough people saw the fight that i think they feel that the people know who really won. A lot of writers as i, belive marquez won, and as mentioned before it would take a lot of money to lure john into a rematch.
In the post-fight interview of the Jandaeng bout, he mentioned that he's willing to fight at 130. A 'feeling the waters' fight with Juarez is just right, then he can pursue a megabuck fight with Barrera. This fight could prove to be a boring technical chess match though. A fight with the dynamite-fisted Edwin Valero is a perfect style match-up that would display his excellent counterpunching skills. This is gonna be an entertaining bloodbath in the mold of the Jandaeng & Pacquiao fights. JMM explodes into action whenever a brave puncher brings the fight to him. Guzman is another interesting style match-up.
126 isn't as exciting as it used to be. Rematch with John? Wait for Harrison to fix his screws back? Guerrero is a good match, but it won't bring in the $$.
The big fights for JMM is @130.
I think hes fighting him to show that Fillipinos are no rivalry to Mexicans...by knocking him the fuck out
Besides Pacquiao, what fillipino has beaten a Mexican champ recently?
I don't think that is his motive, in fact a large part of Marquez's fanbase is Filipinos.
Truth is, thats the angle that promoters are running with. Don't like it? Write your local congressman or send it to my email at ryansongalia201@aol.com
Filipino-Mexican rivalry?? What rivalry?
So do you think that Marquez is fighting Jaca because there is something to be proven there? Or could it be that Pacquiao's conquests of Barrera and Morales have ignited a Filipino-American fanbase that has found some success South of the Border and now all the promoters are using that ethnic rivalry to rake in the cash? I'll tell you a secret, it's the latter ;)
