Valuev is big. Valuev can just lean on him for a few rounds and sapp toney's stamina. Tie up and keep a consistant jab out there. could give toney lots of trouble
and Valuev is slow as shit and inaccurate. QUOTE]
I'm not so sure of that. The inaccurate part that is. Did you watch that 11th round? He caught Barrett cleanly over and over. He's not a crisp puncher but his jab does find the mark quite well.
I agree with Kid Achilles. Jab and hold will drain too much out of the aging, out of condition Toney. Toney is one hell of a boxer but fighting Valuev would be his excuse to come in at 300lbs 'for the extra power'. There's nothing about this match up that bodes well for Toney. It would be a weird fight and a crazy spectacle and that is all.
I find myself warming to Valuev. He's trained hard, maximized his abilities, minimized his shortcomings and takes every fight seriously. Credit for that.
A decent Joe Frazier style swarmer would finish him in six rounds but there aren't any out there right now.
I wish there were a few more talented boxers around who took boxing as seriously as he does.
I've just read this thread and saw some idiots saying that Toney needs to hurt the Giant to win the fight.
Let me tell you somthing you retards, this is boxing, not power punching, some of the greatest boxers of all time won most of their fights without hurting the person they were fighting.
The giant will land some punches on Toney, but not much, he doesn't have the power to hurt Toney.
This fight will be easier then the Peter fight who Toney beat pretty easily with being out of shape.
I am not saying he NEEDS to HURT him to win.. I am saying he needs to HIT him to win... Toney is TOO small.. Valuev is too BIG.. case closed.. OH and sorry mate... but Toney did NOT win against Peter .. It was close.. WAY TOO close.. for such an awesome HW... the guy is LONG past his sell by date.. You need to accept it.. AND Toney sure does as well... Toney can talk all he wants.. You can talk all you want.. I am NOT convinced..
It's boxing, not whoever throws light punches that can't dent a tin can but sure look nice. Catch my drift? Toney hasn't decisively beaten a top big man since Ruiz. A boxing match is not won by skill alone. You need to hurt the opponent with your punches, or at least reach them, which I can't see Toney doing. Valuev is not that slow on his feet, he is actually a decent athlete for a guy that huge and can move behind a jab pretty well.
Valuev will win by a landslide. Not even close. Toney will have a few good moments but they will be few and far between and not enough to win a fight. When you're that old, small, and fat, and not a very mobile guy to begin with, the guy who has a foot of height on you and a hundred pounds as well as a passable level of athleticism, chin, and skill is going to do a number on you.
I apologize if I came off like an asshole with the post but I just can't see how Toney can outbox this Valuev when he was struggling with Peter's size at 6'1". Rahman and Peter scored with their jabs and so will Valuev, except he is smarter than either and will stick to the jab and not fall into Toney's traps. It won't be pretty, but he'll win.
Toney would beat Nikolay, Nikolay's way too slow, Toney will just have to throw body shots through the whole fight. Like gunstar said, it's boxing not who ever lands the hardest punches wins.
Wow man you are a fucking idiot for not being able to read. I said Toney had trouble parrying Rahman's and Peter's jabs you fucking moron. You are too stupid to post here, please leave.
The bodyshots are also scored. I seriously doubt Valuev could land a solid punch on Toney. Too slow and too predictable.
Toney hasn't long enough arms and his blocking style, shoulder roll or how you call it would suck against a much taller opponent.
Have you seen how slow Valuev is? Peter is no bum. He may not be a great heavyweight but he's not some guy off the streets.
Peter is slow maybe more slow then the giant but if peter can land shots on toney then what make u think the giant can't? toney can land all the bodyshots he wants but that's not going to win him fights he must atleast hit valuev in the face and atleast hurt valuev which he can't. This fight is a mis match. Valuev would win easily with his size but leaning on toney all night.
Way too big of a size difference. How would Toney even be able to reach this guys face with a jab the way some are claiming he can do all night to Valuev ? Toney doesn't have long arms and stands at 5'9...how can he beat this guy ?
I don't think he can, for the same reasons you just mentioned. He's just physically too small.
I really don't know what to think of that matchup. I think Valuev is too big for a small heavy like Toney. Toney is not a big guy relative to a normal heavyweight. I think Valuev would tire him out quickly just by clinching and leaning on him. I don't know if Toney could roll with a punch coming from a guy that's 100+ pounds heavier than him. I really like James Toney, but I think the size difference is probably too big.

Valuev wouldn't be able to touch him. JT by wide and undesputed decision.
You mean like Sam Peter wasn't going to be able to touch him either? I never saw Sam Peter land a straight punch in my life before the Toney fight... If Peter can tag Toney with straight hands, Then what would Valuev be able to do? I would think more than Peter
At first I was saying Toney would easilly win, then I saw Valuev again and just had to think common sense. 7 foot versus 5'9. 350 versus 230. I just dont see anyway for Toney to be able to do enough to win.
Everyone said Peter would be too slow and sloppy to land on Toney, yet he tagged him with the jab again and again. Toney just can't parry a jab like he used to. Compare his defense against the jab in the Ruiz fight to the Rahman fight and you can clearly see his reflexes aren't what they were just a few years ago. If a slow jabber like Peter can land the jab on Toney, why can't Valuev do it? Valuev is a better jabber than Peter if you ask me, and certainly has more reach with the punch.
I truly cannot see Toney winning this fight. He's too small to have success at long range and does not hit hard enough to have a punchers chance when the fight does go to the inside. He's faded late in his last few fights. He gassed when Rahman got physical with him, and Valuev is stronger than Rahman. How is he going to have any stamina in the 10th, 11th, and 12th rounds when a man much taller and heavier has been leaning on him in every clinch? I think Toney would get decisioned, winning at the most 3-4 rounds. This is not a knock on his skills, just his lack of size and punching power.
Toney gets a lot of credit from me for holding his own with Samuel Peter, but Valuev is just too big for him.
James Toney fans are delusional...FACE IT!!! the man is not an ELITE heavyweight... At lower weights maybe.. But he cannot get it done against best of the division.. Example Wlad VS Peter, Toney VS Peter.. Wlad Dominated the fight despit 2 illeagle KD punches.. Toney could barely squeak out a win.. and in alot of peoples Eyes rightly lost.. SO how would the 5'9" Toney have any chance against a guy a foot and half taller who seems to be able to take a punch pretty well? Answer... he cant .. Valuev by a lopsided descion or TKO
The bodyshots are also scored. I seriously doubt Valuev could land a solid punch on Toney. Too slow and too predictable.
Sure but I would have a hard time scoring any of Toney's little pecks against Valuev. For a punch to score it has to at least have the potential to hurt the opponent. In this fight one guy is completely incapable of hurting the other. Toney would look good, even better than usual, but I can't imagine him being actually effective.
I would love to see this fight but ppl is underrated valuev power cause he does have power punch. Valuev trainer made it clear that he is teaching valuev to how to punch soft stif punches like the jab to make it quick. And if valuev have to he would throw his big punch " like he did vs barrett in the 11th round" and boom it's over. Toney vs valuev would be a fight i would love to watch but isn't toney 5'9 or 5'11? i think he's 5'9 well either way, i just don't see a very smaller toney to out box the huge 7 feet giant. Can toney even land a punch way up to valuev? i see valuev winning in an easy decision by putting his huge body on toney and tired toney big belly out.
Geezus... Toney is like 5'10... Valuev is 7'0 and maybe even 7'3.. No way that Toney could ever reach Valuev's face... This would be a horrible fight and I would never want to see it.
The only thing Toney could do is jab him in the body and if you have seen Valuev's fights, body shots doesn't do much to him.
Lets just throw Ricky Hatton in there at 5'6 with Valuev to make even more disgustingly uneven fights.
