Did Oscar Fake the Hopkins Liver Shot?

i dunno. at first i thought it might be considering how soft it looked, oscar rolling around and having the energy to scream and pound his fist in frustration afterward (despite having just taken that body shot) and him going on a talk show and pointing to the wrong side of his body when describing the punch, hopkins having taken over the last couple rounds and adjusting to everything oscar did, and even well-experienced trainers in boxing like manny (no, not just keyboard warriors) questioning if it was fake. but then again, oscar did look pretty bad rolling on the floor and this is the same guy who said 'black fighters can't take it to the body', and there's other ways to quit other than looking like he did.

He faked it. Oscar has been hit to the body harder than that by harder punchers.

This is what I posted on a similar thread back in May of this year & it's my opinion of what went down. I've always believed he took a dive in that fight just to give Hopkins a multi million dollar fight something he's been asking for along time and in return Hopkins agrees to partner up with DLH in order to grab the interest of the african american fighters for his promotional co. This is just my opinion guys...I just find it funny when DLH announces the partnership a week later. Plus in the undercard of Barerra Vs Juarez the guy got hit with a nasty liver shot and the man could hardly speak or breath and there's DLH on the canvas screaming & pounding the canvas.

that wasnt a liver shot. ur liver is protected by ur ribs on all sides except for ur front. that punch landed on the side of oscar's rib cage, almost to his kindeys. and i've seen a lot of fighters get KOd from body shots, and NONE of them acted like they were in as much pain as oscar looked. One of my fighters dropped a Czech with a livershot a couple years ago. The guy was writhing on the floor, crying out loud in pain for maybe 30 seconds. When the result was announced, he was fine. I was stopped by a liver shot in my 14th fight (15 years ago). I was paralysed for about a minute, and after that I was fine, and could probably have fought another fight. I've also had a kidney shot, in sparring, by a guy who outweighed med by 25 lbs. I was literally crying, rolling around on the floor. The trainer at the gym I was visiting couldn't understand what I was carrying on about. He wasn't very experienced as a trainer, and had never had a fight himself (his brother was European champion as a pro though). My point is that it varies. Sometimes you're just paralyzed, and can't draw breath, other times you're on the floor screaming your head off. I've seen both plenty.

The punch barely landed on the liver. Oscar faked it , you can tell from his act on the floor how he was sreaming in pain then after the count he was up fine pounding his fist and walking around the ring swearing. You can totally see from the replay that the punch had no power behind it and that it barely landed on his liver.

I looked questionable when i saw it live and the replays, but I can't imagine Oscar taking a dive like that.

oh please, that was legit. Hopkins charged on DLH with that punch on the ribs, very clear on slow-mo. DLH was caught unawares by the stronger & bigger Hopkins. and anybody who thought DLH would fake his fight is a more-on. :nono:

I thought the shot was alot closer to his back & below his rib, I'd call it a perfect kidney shot, I'm sure it did alot of damage regardless. Edit; I've seen a few bodyshots stop a fighter, but none in the same spot as the one that dropped DLH tho

Agreed, especailly since it was already well into B-Hop career at that point, I doubt he knew Hopkins was gonna be fighting into his 40's Legit, no question. All the REAL fighters know how crippling a livershot is. The keyboard warriors just have no idea what they're talking about. Watching 10000 fights won't make you an expert. Hands on experience will. I'd have to think the fans & keyboard warriors have some idea, considering the poll.

Boxing at the highest levels is 90% mental, 10% physical. Oscar de la Hoya went into that fight expecting to lose. You could see him looking very nervous before the fight but very relaxed afterward. When he took the lefthook, which he didn't see coming, I believe that his imagination took over and exagerated the pain. When you believe something is going to happen, unconsciously you will tend to make it happen. There is no reason to conclude that Oscar de la Hoya consciously threw the fight.

It was easy an legit. I'll put it short and sweet, whoever thinks oscar fake it to get hopkins to be apart of goldenboy promotion is an idiot. Oscar has too much pride in him to do something like that. That soft shot that hopkins land on oscar was right in the button. I have seen fighters go down with a soft punch to the body. look what mayweather did to mitchell? mayweather hit mitchell with a soft punch to the body and mitchell face was like " ohh damn he caught me right on the button". Not only Oscar's pride but 'Nard's is at stake in this question. Would Hopkins agree to fight Oscar only under the condition that Oscar take a dive? As if he did not expect to murder the littler man . . .
