Why is it that boxing is never talked about on TV? You would think that a network such as ESPN would talk about boxing but it is never shown. It's like the sport doesn't exist. Sure, there is the Contender (which in reality is a joke) that was recently put on ESPN but other than that, no mention of professional boxing at all. If boxing was shown more, it would gather more interest in the sport. I'm disappointed and mad because of this. Forums are great and all but I would like more media coverage, interviews, bouts, etc. This is hurting the sport. I actually get happy when Steven Smith of Quite Frankly talks some boxing and has boxers on. I've caught a few episodes of that, but definately not enough. I remember Floyd on there and De la Hoya. What do you guys think? Will it always be this way? WTF is wrong with ESPN? There's a large enough demographic out there that enjoys this sport. I wish there was boxing network devoted just to the sport. :boxing:
i second that ff06
in britian we get a wrestling channel and ive always thought how good a boxing channel could be
a channel that wud show fights from the past , documentarys and all the big fights from the states and of course the domestic scene.
ino a channel like this would be costly to make so i wudnt grumble if it was a subscription based channel
We need "big" fights on regular television again, but I don't know if it is likely to happen...Boxers also fail to get promoted/publicized correctly so they are not as known as others.
Even though ESPN makes money off of the "News" of the sport(s), the entertainment isn't always on ESPN, so I don't know if you can be totaly pissed with them since they are helping the fighter and the other television station in making money.
Defently boxing needs to be discussed more, i know in the spanish tv news boxing is discussed. And when Delahoya was fighter they always showed news about him, always lately i've been seeing some news coverage by the news tv on regular cable showing boxing news but it usally is a ppv fight. I did see valuv on cnn or msbc or some news network, he was with king talking about the fight. Smith is good for boxing, but i only watch when he has boxing, and its been awhile, but he does report boxing news, that i've seen even though at time its only a small segment, but still better then nothing.
it's true that boxing should be covered on ESPN (Sportscenter) (or at least recaped on those saturday nights that there's fights)...
'espn classic' remains the solid home for boxing right now.. not anything recent, but lots of fights on that channel and their 4 hour 'ringside' programs are great too..
