Today I sparred some kid from Texas. Dont ask me what the hell he was doing down here because I dont know. He came to the gym with some guy who knew my trainer. They said his record was like 20-10 or something. I was thinking that aint a very good record I doubt hes good. They asked me if I wanted to spar him because I was the closest to his weight (139) and I weigh 132. I figured yea why not, im 3-0, hes 20-10.
So we started out just boxing and I though I was easily getting the better of it, pop shotting him. Then he caught me wit a huge left hook and everyone in the gym started yellin and sh!t. So i got mad pissed and just went at him. The next 2 rounds we just went toe to toe pretty much. We both landed a lot but I must admit he got the better of me. He kept tying me up and messing up my rythem and stuff, probably because he has fought 30 times and is pretty experienced. He was a very good fighter and i learned not to judge people by their records.
I came home and was just like "WHAT THE FUK WAS THAT" lol I dont know why I fought like that. He dragged me into a brawl. Ive never fought that way before and have sparred easily of 100 times and have fought 3 times. But i did feel I learned a lot from it. I think this kid lives down here now so we will probably spar again. I now sit here on the computer with a horrific looking black eye and I am extremely dissapointed with myself.

Your story reminds me of when i used to sparr and get tagged had to go right after my opponet with no mercy - good time. :boxing:
Its all a learning proccess. Im sure you got a great deal of experiance from this, and keep your head up. Everybody gets blacks eyes, brused nose, bloddy nose and so on, its part of learning your craft and what goes along with learning.
I have no idea where that is... Sounds like some shyt you made up.. You ain't fuking with me right?
Its in New Bedford MA, the Whaling City. Google it, you should find something.
I dont live in NY. Im from there and will rep it until the day I die, but I currently live in Massachusetts. You can always catch me in NY though because I got tons of fam there and im always there.
But once again im moving. Dade County Miami baby!
So what did that do for your outlook as far as when the shit gets thick in a real pro fight?
If you got caughte arly, with ten rounds to go, would you allow yourself to get dragged into it again, or take some rounds if you can to get back some points, regain control and tear into him later?
Ni9ga im 16 years old. Im an amateur fighter. I only have 3 amateur fights. I fight 3 rounders. Im still learning.
So you have a touch of the Gatti's about you. That's ok if you have the chin to go with it but if you want to last, it's pretty much by the grace of God that you'll escape those kinds of fights for a long time.
I look at people like Gatti, Corrales, Castillo and so forth, and realize that as exciting and vital as they are now, they must be on very thin ice.
Wouldn't it be better to trade when you have to?
are you good enough to have taken this fight back onto a more strategic level once you realized he was so strong?
If you are, why didn't you?
Yea I think i could have outboxed him because at the beginning i was. But what can I say, I got dragged into a brawl. It is easy to sit there and say why didnt you do this or why didnt you do that, but when your in the ring its a different story. This isnt something I always do, i spar all the time and have fought 3 times. Sh!t happens, find me a boxer who has never been in a brawl throughout their whole career including sparring. He got me to fight his fight, he was the better of the two of us today.
It happens bro..
20-10 ain't as bad as you think.
Yea it aint bad, especially in the amateurs. I deffinately did underestimate him. Im glad that wasnt an official fight because I would have lost. But they wouldnt match me against someone with 30 fights when I have 3 because im a novice and hes open.
