if you notice from mayweathers last 2 performances....i dont think his speed is no longer that big a factor..when he fought genaro hernandez he was super fast..up until the gatti fighti..now he's slow and pot shots alot..i think baldomir being the bigger stronger man and mayweather slowing down has a chance..is he past his prime or do you just think its the weight gain?
A lot of people are also forgetting his recent competition at 147 are two of the faster guys out there in terms of handspeed, Judah could possibly be the fastest. Basically, put a sprinter out there against a bunch of high schoolers, he's going to look unbelievably fast. Next, put that same sprinter in the Olympic trials, he is still just as fast, just his competition is faster so it makes him look more ordinary and human.
Guys, also dont forget the style change. Recently Floyd has been walking guys down. Slowly stalking them.
Ive said it before and Ill say it again, Floyd has lost some speed from the weight gain but its not nearly as much as you guys make it out to be. It all depeneds on his opponent and the style he wants to fight. They said the same thing when he first went to 140. They said he looked slow againt Bruseles but he was stalking. Against Gatti he was a boxer and he looked super fast.
In both fights at 147 he has been stalking and I still think he has been faster then you guys give him credit for. Ill say it again, watch how all this talk changes after the Baldy fight for 2 reasons. One is that he will be more comfortable at the weight and 2 is that he will be a boxer, just like the Gatti fight. He wont be running, he will still be in Baldys face but he will be the counterer in this fight early on, until he flips the switch.
Watch how much faster he looks in this fight. Also, you definatly cant compare him to the Genero Hernandez fight. That was at 130 and he was much younger. Your always going to lose some speed with age also. Put in a tape of any fighter, even the super fast ones. Then put in a tape of them when they were young like 22. They will seem unreal at that young age with there hand speed.
Its like MJ. At 29 he was still quick and athletic but at 22 he was freakishly fast & was crazy athletic. At 29 he was much smarter & knew the game like the back of his hand. Floyd is not past his prime, he is in his prime, and knows the ring like the back of his hand. Nothing will surprise him and he will always stay calm and adjust no matter the adversity
I think its a bit of the weight gain, but more of the fact that he wants 2 pick his shots of better by landing with more power,i really doubt its age,hes only 29,i think hes got another 3 years left in him
I think its the short waiting time of moving up to another weight class that is slowing him down. He could be faster but I think he is moving up in weight too fast. He spends like a year or two at a weight class then moves up. That is what I think is slowing him down. He needs to give himself time to adjust to each weight class. Other fighters spend many years at one weight class and occasionally move one up or one down to what they're usually at. I think Mayweather is just trying to tie or beat De La Hoya's record of champion in six weight divisions.
Fighters do what they feel comfortable doing, look at hatton hes spent years at 140, moved up and did it in terrible fashion. Different bodies take things different, as long as you DONT do what jones did, youll be fine for the most part. Hes pacing himself fine for the shape he keeps himself in.

As far as floyd being past his prime i think theres no wa in hell. I also agree with alot of you it him gaining weight, but lets not forget were talkin about unbeatable pbf so i think he'll tighten it up he's the master
Floyd is fast, but his focus hasn't ever been on speedy and flashy "shoeshine" combination flurries...
aside from the weight, I think he just puts more focus on being economical with his punches...
vs Zab, Zab tried to outspeed Floyd and he did...however, Floyd knew that wouldn't be the right fight to fight with Zab, so he just worked on touching Zab with punches...
with Mitchell, Mitchell simply moves oddly in the ring and is sloppy...so you didn't see Floyd really utilize great speed and combinations which may have resulted in him missing a lot more vs the awkward Mitchell...so he sat down and selected his lead punches..
I think aside from the weight, he is simply fighting differently...however also consider that his last two opponents (Mitchell and Zab) aren't necessarily known for being the slowest punchers on the block...
vs Baldomir, he may look pretty fast...
yeah i noticed when he moved up to fight mitchell he was a bit slower than he was against gatti. i think it's definately the weight, he's only 30 man so he's still in his prime.
I thinks it's a combination of the extra weight and him sitting down on his punches more in order to punch harder.
thanks, you said what i was going to say.
i think that Mayweather just feels he needs more power to compete with the bigger men in boxing. I think he COULD have better speed, but he feels more comfortable with the extra power at that weight.
I highly doubt Mayweather is past his prime. He has a style that lets his prime last a loooong time, and the fact that he hardly fights helps as well.
how old is mayweather? 29? 30? well i think his prime will end when hes like 32 or something. And he'll still be great after that

Its the weight. Floyd needs to stop moving up. If he fights De La Hoya at Light Middleweight like he said he was willing too, then De La Hoya has the advantage.
