I watched the fight finally, i was excited because i have never seen him, finally i was going to get a chance and personally, it was boring for the most part and he was not impressive at all. He barely moved, he kept his hands up for alot of rounds and he showed no jab, he didint set up punches and the latter half of the fight he was running. The positioning of his belt coupled with his constant back pedeling as well as his crouching to block led to those low blows. Alot of those landed right on the belt of his high trunks when i watched them in slow motion.
Abraham was constantly moving backward, and the punches he did land were in small flurries, so what if Miranda was hit flush, He would go back to turtling. It was worse than Wright to me because Wright does that in the center of the ring and flings a jab to put you off pace, however Abraham just stays back and decides once in awhile to throw some big looping punches.
I wasnt anymore impressed with Miranda, but i didint expect to. I know alot of you will get on me about this, but I dont care, it was a weak fight mostly because of Abraham's lack of action. His jaw broke and ran for the latter half of the fight, even Malignaggi didint do that. In Vegas he would have been booed easily. That was pathetic to me not even throwing a punch in the final championship rounds. To me, the way i saw it, Miranda won the fight, the point deductions ruined it, but Miranda did that to himself on a couple of occasions. I do feel not all those blows were low, as Abrahams trunks were high and alot of those landed on the belt.
Abraham has to improve in my opinion, Miranda is OK, but at the least, he landed alot of body shots and some of those punches definately got through his gaurd. This isnt Mayweather vs Castillo where Mayweather ducked/dodged/shoulder rolled the punches, Abraham just sat back and put his hands up with no counter punching whatsever.
Im in agreement with all those who feel Miranda could have won this fight without point deductions.
Fuck Abraham won that fight hands down. But that score could have been closer. It is kinda what and what for me. I think Miranda should have won it. Those penaties were not called for. And plus he had the chance to take Abraham out but did not go for it. I hope that there is a rematch.
IMHO not really
if you want to see high
check out
DLH
but anyway this is irrelevent what we think. I am bias, so is Pantera and so on. The discussion turns to the following:
1. what did the ref say about the trunks before the bell, because he ruled the warnings and deductions
and then the question is
do you think he was corrupt and in teh pocket of the promoter?
You believe yes
but i believe no cause as i said he didn't do AA any favors by not stopping the fight
and if he was corrupt he had all the opportunities with borderline shots to stop the fight and DQ Miranda
why even take chances that EM would land the KO punch?
Furthermore
if EM is being warned for borderline shots, illegal or no,
why take the chance and give them a reason to get on his case?
I didint say anything about corruption or anything like that, your talking to the wrong person.
as somebody else replying to this said
Those were warnings not the PD's
BUT those were all definately below the belt and hence illegal.
they were not borderline at all.
Some of them were definately borderline on the belt, keep in mind his beltline was also high.
I should add that Abraham chose to continue after being advised that if he was to quit he would lose by technical knockout as opposed to the fight going to the cards or Miranda being disqualified.
the referee didn't vall the fight at all, Abraham was asked if he wanted to continue and initially said no but then changed his mind on the advice of his trainer (albeit bad advice)
That was fucked up, Ive never seen a reaction like that, Abraham should have been allowed to not continue if he didint want to, that was rediculous.
Those pics look to me like they are all on the beltline (1st is above the belt). Ridiculous if these were called for low blows!
Abraham has a great defense, especially protecting the head, so of course Miranda is not gonna hit a high percent of clean punches. The ref threaten Miranda he would be DQ'd early in the fight if he had any more 'low blows'. This took Miranda's gameplan away of hurting the body of Abraham where he is more open.
No doubt Miranda got screwed. The ref called the fight in RD 5 and than it was overturned by the promoter!!! Crazy shit people... I heard Germany was bad, but Sauerland is the fucking dirtiest damn bastard I have ever seen. Makes King look like a freakin saint!

He was pretty inactive in his last fight, but i think we were robbed of seeing the real abraham the other night due to his jaw.I'll try and find a link to the Ikeke fight for you, you'd probably be more impressed by that, however i dunno what your preferences are style wise.
I can get the Ikeke fight, ill find it and check it out. My preferences stylewise have nothing to do with what i think is effective, so long as your doing what works, thats fine.
People have said to me on this forum that im pretty good at seeing styles. That style that Abraham was using wasnt that great to me because he was very inactive to me, and had no jab to set anything up. Miranda kept his hands so low all the time, it was as if he was asking to get hit flush and be KO'ed. Counterpunchers counter far more often than that, it was as if Abraham would be like "OK IM JUST GONNA THROW SOME PUNCHES, THEN GO BACK IN MY SHELL".
Maybe hes not like this every fight, ive only seen one fight, so my opinion is only based on this fight and what i read in RING Magazine.

You still don't get how his style works? You don't have to win a fight by walking an opponent down.
On how you couldn't see him effectively drawing in Miranda and countering, i'm speechless, cause that's almost exactly what Abraham did. It was almost more "waiting to attack 2nd", than countering IMO. But nonetheless, effective.
I just don't see how you missed it..
It wasnt that effective to me, but its just my opinion. I respect that this is how you see it, however i dont see it that way. I felt Miranda did land some body shots here and there, and just looked more busy for 2 minutes on average each round. I just wasnt impressed, when you throw no jabs, nor do you set up your punches well, Im not impressed by that. Even Vic Darchinyan who throws alot of Haymakers still sets them up in percise fashion, i didnt see that from Abraham.
Abraham landed clean, but landing 5 or 6 clean shots, while sitting on the ropes for most of the round isnt that effective, then he got his jaw broke, and he was looking winded even before then. Bottom line i wasnt that impressed.
He wasn't constantly backing Miranda up, but when he did unload, he hurt him several times. Miranda was the aggressor throughout however he was hitting the gloves and missing for the majority, whilst landing some good shots in between. The right hand that cracked arthur's jaw was awesome, but damn Edison is the dirtiest bastard i have ever seen.
That too, everytime he'd get Miranda in trouble with a shot, Miranda would be back-trailing. Miranda is a pressure fighter who's constantly moving into his opponents. Abraham's style in this fight was made for that.
He was like this for alot of the fight, tell me around where he had Miranda backed up the entire round. Tell me a round where he pressed the action for the ENTIRE round, tell me a round where he looked to capitolize on the great punches he landed on Miranda.
I just dont look highly on backpedeling UNLESS, your effectively drawing the fight to your opponent and countering, which i just didint see. Mayweather does this alot, Barrera did a great job of it last week, Roy Jones USED TO do this all the time as well.
None of us will be in his position because we arent fighters, I am not calling him a pussy, im not saying hes a bitch, by no means would i even say that. I am dissapointed, if your going to continue, then CONTINUE, dont run around and hold on for dear life for 3 straight rounds. Do you see where im coming from?

Until you've been in his position, you can't reaaly critiscise him for not opening up more, his jaw was twice as bad as Malignaggi's, and he was choking on his own blood from round 5 onwards.

many, many of you people on the board need to see more Abraham fights than just this one, before you go making assumptions about him.

seriously, again Abraham like to "counter-punch" it has nothing to do with his willingness to engage.. people need to see the difference (BJ is one of them). This is EXACTLY what you do with an "early-aggressive" fighter like Miranda, why not let him wear himself out early in the round just to capitalize later on? And while there were a few short flurries by Abraham, i'd hardly say that's what he was doing the entire fight. The fact was that everytime Abraham hit Miranda, Miranda would stop throwing himself and cover, thus giving the illusion of a "flurry" The fact was that both guys had impressive power, and when that's the case, you're not going to always get 'Corrales-Castillo'-like action. Another fact is that both fighters had respect for each others power and neither were going to be stupid enough to go toe-to-toe just to impress fans.
