Man, I just seen HBO Legendary Nights on that fight, thats is some bullshit. I can't fuckin beleive that man Richard Steele basically ruined his life. Your thoughts.
2 seconds left. imagine if it wasn't stopped, what more could have happened? NONE. no more blows could have exchanged and both fighters will have just walked back to their corners, no more knockdowns.
there was a clapper for the 10seconds reminder, and there was the red light at the post behind taylor which steele couldn't have probably missed. taylor was good to go again but must have been looking at lou duva when steele asked him the Qs because when he looked back at steele stopping the fight, he vehemently resented the call.
and i think if you fought a good winning fight you deserve those 2 seconds. 2 seconds where NOTHING could have happened anymore.

thanks . . . looks like a knockout to me; the thing is, Taylor looked confused by the decision, but if that's the case, then he should have been coherent enough to respond to the ref in the first place.
The ref is NOT the time keeper.
Steele did a brilliant job by not giving a fuck that it was the last round, or who was ahead on points, he stopped the fight because Taylor wasnt fit to continue.
Amazing comeback by Chavez.
I just watched the 12th round and taylor looked just as fucked as gerald mclellan did after benn put him down, he was constantly whincing before and during the last round. If the ref really was unaware of the time, it was a good stoppage.
Yeah he did ask Meldrick are you ok twice. He should have let Meldrick continue but Meldrick said nothing when Steele asked him. His focus was somewhere else. Lou Duva jumped up when Meldrick had stood up. Meldrick may have been looking at his corner. I think they should have let it continue though. Also Steele should have an idea of how much time is left in the round. It wouldn't be such a sad story if Meldrick Taylor didn't end up the way he did.
Steele asked him twice. "Are you alright? Are you alright?" And Taylor didn't respond, therefore he was knocked out. Chavez SCORED a knockout with two seconds left, just like in football when a team SCORES a touchdown at the last second, they win. So Chavez won fair and square.
But in boxing is different than footbal if you could fight then you contiune but if you cant the ref stops.
and I though that Taylor could fight for 2 sec and he was okay and stood up at cout of 6 as well as shook his head when he was asked if he is alright that is enough for a person to say he is able to fight

That fight is what ruined Meldrick Taylor.Dont say the ref did lol.Taylor got obliterated with a shot and he got up at 9 and was completely disoriented i dont care how much time is left you cant risk it.

This is one of the things that bugs me when people try and talk about this fight. Richard Steele did not ruin his life CHAVEZ RUINED HIS LIFE with those punches. The guy had it beaten out of him that night. He took one of the worst beating in the history of the sport and people act like it was just a one punch KO that did it and Chavez got lucky.
Its not the refs job to keep time. Steele asked Taylor if he was ok TWICE and Taylor did nothing, whats he supposed to do?
There wasn't enough time for Chavez to land another punch. Dude there was 2 Seconds left... 2 SECONDS. That's not even enough time for Chavez to even walk over to Taylor, let alone land a punch.
The fight was essentially over.
But it doesn't matter, everyone knows Taylor was the better man that night, and gave Chavez a boxing lesson.
You really should watch the fight, who knows how Taylor got all busted up in the face.
I think the magnatitude of the fight it shouldnt stop it at that time.
Taylor was ahead on points at the same time he stand i think it was 6 and Steele told he if he was okay he shook his head.
Its not his job, to know how much time is left, his job is to protect the fighter. Steele would have felt like shit if Taylor had died after the fight. All Chavez needed to do was land one more punch and Taylor would go down again. To say it was taken from Taylor is ridicules, they ain't playing a game, its boxing, and they both took punchs. Why didn't Taylors people accept a deal for a rematch with Chavez early then it happened? Remember Chavez was all for the rematch.

i agree, steele made the good call. i've always said that if u had another 10-15 seconds on that clock, and taylor would have been knocked out cold and maybe seriously injured.
Steele didnt know how much time was left, so he called it.
HOWEVER, u cannot blame anybody for being mad at the call. ur fighter is seconds away from a sure victory, and to have the REF, of all people, rip the fight away from him in the final 5 seconds of the fight, is not only devestating, but heart breaking!!!

exactly!! before a ref decides to stop a fight should he look to see how much time is left? NO!
it's great to see there are people here that see it as it was and IS.....a GREAT comeback....
Its a crying shame.
Taylor had a career night and had it taken away from him like THAT.
And im not trying to pretend Taylor was the better fighter or anything, but he was the better man that night, and it was taken from him because the referee didnt know how much time was left in the fight.

Also if you watch that fight in it's entirety then you'd see the amount of punishment Taylor went through.
that was crap too but he still would've had that fight won fighting that round or not. He was 2 seconds away and the light was blinking to show the last 10 seconds. Though it was pretty shitty for his corner to tell him that.
