Cotto is obviously a skilled boxer with determination and a good heart. He is also a fan favorite for his ability to overcome adversity. What will be his fate as a fighter?
Let them talk shit, when he starts beating everyone up at welter I'll dig out this thread... :D
Whos talking shit, what..you wont accept anything less than "OMG COTTO IS PERFECT, HE WILL RULE EVERY DIVISION ETCETC"
hes not perfect and he has a few holes, but hes a good fighter.
I love how people say oh Cotto's chin is to bad and guys like Vivian Harris would KO him. What about Vivian Harris? People are starting to talk about this guy like hes great, what about his chin? Maussa knocked him silly. Maussa couldnt budge Cotto. Cotto's weight draining is what is affecting him. He took everything the heavy handed Bailey has to offer. He was never hurt amateur or pro until the weight problem. Its not like he never got hit. Guys with really bad chins get hurt by bums early in their careers and sh!t like that. Cotto is going to be a great champion. WATCH!
All I'm gonna say is, he could be a big star and with work be a top contender, although at the moment I wouldn't put him in against any of the top guys because he'll probably lose.
I agree with you and Black Jesus that PBF wasn't wobbling, but he did get stunned and twice. As I said before, Cotto was out on his feet. What I'm trying to explain is that Cotto had to weight himself 3 or 4 times for that fight. At that point you could tell making weight for him was taking its toll. I thought Torres jumped right on him once he hurt him and hit him in the ropes with some hard, clean shots and wasn't able to knock him out. We should wait to see him at 147 before judging his chin.
Agreed.
Corley did catch Cotto on the temple.
And Torres had at least a half a round (maybe more) to finish a hurt Cotto.
Neither did. That shows alot.
yea she got a big ass. somebody else has a better one though, i mean a HUGE ass in their avatar i think the girls name was Selina somethin
I'm not sure about the other chick, but with Gerards Avatar, she has an ass but just as important, a beautiful face to go along with it.

U mean Selena Spice.
I see what your saying but if that was the case than Arum would have wanted to go ahead with the Mayweather and Hatton fights before he made it up to 147. It seemed as if Bob really didn't want those fights for Miguel.
And yes, Chop Chop did stun PBF but he didn't have PBF stumbling all over the ring. He caught him, Floyd shook it off after 20 seconds are so and went back to work. Cotto was leaning over so far I thought he was going to drop at any second. And a real finisher will capatilize on that since it is known that Chop Chop can't. (Floyd, Zab)
Oh yeah, don't EVER change your avatar!!

I'm not trying to convince you on the weight advantage issue. If you ever had to lose weight for any sport the way Cotto does and look Ethiopian before fights you'll understand he's taking a double beating in order to make weight right before the fight. IMO Arum kept him at 140 'cause that's where the big fights were, now its off to 147. Torres does not have a greate resume, he was undefeated with 28 wins, 26 KOs against unknowns. Can you measure power when you see him punching against a better fighter? Not necessarily, watching him on that fight, bringing those nasty upper cuts and over right hands gives you an idea HE DOES have power and speed. Corley did hurt him, thought he had him out on his feet, he also stunned PBF, can we assume PBF has no chin? Probably not.

You cant compare the PBF fight to Cotto, PBF looked breifly "troubled" but Cotto was visibly wobbled and had to hold on, i just looked at the fight today, along with about 9 other cotto fights (its my day off, these are what i spend my days off doing), and again, Cotto has looked "ready to go" twice already, with PBF this has NEVER been the case.
Not to mention PBF wasnt 17 lbs heavier than Cotto the day of their showdown. Nobody hardly ever lands a shot on PBF which is why even seeing him hit or briefly stunned is a big deal, but with Cotto i just see too many things that could lead him to seriously be hurt by someone who is actually on his level in terms of power and ability.
There is not much to suggest that Torres is the homerun hitter you describe because his resume is complete garbage and we have very little to judge him by as far as power goes.
Cotto not having a size advantage? Thats bullshit, if you have to kill yourself to make weight, you have a MAJOR size advantage no matter what. If you didint have the advantage, you wouldnt kill yourself to make weight.
Personally, i have ALL of Cottos fights, and as much as i want to believe in him, frankly, he has so many defensive holes, he does alot of things well, but when i think about matchups with the bigger names in the division, i wonder how many punches hes going to be able to take. Corley hurt him, Torres hurt him, i just wonder when he faces legit competition if someone is going to put him down permenetly. Cotto is a great puncher who paces himself, but he keeps his hands generally high and is open to the body.
I just dont know, however, I do like his resume, its respectable and filled with names people know and understand.

I'd have to disagree with you on that one, Torres is a fast, home run hitter, and his power is in the same league as those fighters you mentioned. You're mentioning Cotto's size advantage, but in all fairness we should say that is mostly a water advantage as he's been dehydrating and killing himself for making weight, its not a muscle mass advantage, know what I mean.

I agree he did show heart, but Torres really doesn't have a killer resume either. Torres has power, but not the kind of pop that a Hatton or Gatti or even Castillo brings, and certainly not the offensive skills. It'll be interesting to see how he does when the guys get bigger lol

It dont matter about ur chin,it matters how u can recover, and boy can Cotto recover, only 2 ppl have went the distance with Torres,he was a hard puncher, and Cotto shew heart wen he got hurt,he moved around, ducked, got his feet back and went back 2 body blows,Cotto's the best at recovering after he gets hurt,he's definatly one of my fav fighters, and hes got more skills then most power fighters 2day,hes got sum killer body shots and a left hook

its funny because he beat sosa better then mayweather did he beat ndou better then mitchell did he slaughterd carlos m
hes made a slew of fighters quit in the ring ...like litrally fight a round and go back to there corners and say no mas ...
wheres all the hate at? hes still a young kid why dont yall wait untill he fucks up before you run your mouths?
You know how it goes man, the more a hype a fighter gets, the closer people watch him waiting for a chance to knock him. I had a problem with him before, but now that he's moving up to where he belongs I just want to see how he does without the size advantage.

I like his body work on opponents. Its a lost skill in todays boxing world. But his chin worries me, everytime he gets dropped or stunned people are making exscuses for him. "That can happen to anyone" or "It as lucky". But it seems his chin is questionanble, and at the lower weights it may not have been an issue. But moving up to 147 and beyond where the fist are much heavier it could prove fatal.

People make too much of what happend against Torres. A guy who won something like all of his fights except for two by KO. I dont care how good anyones chin is, Cotto works the body well enough to break anyone down. What does fighting Vivian Harris do for him now though? Harris beat a blown up lightweight. He needs to fight someone else first.
props to Cotto for surving the Torres fight. He was clearly hurt in almost every round but dug deep and fought back.
@ 147 he might be stronger though.
How will he handle welterweight power ?
time will tell.
