I just watched the fight, what is the explanation for what happened to McClellan, in all seriousness, he didn't get hit much in his last fight, expecially not as much as Benn. How did he get injured like that?
McClellan went back to his corner after the second round and said "somethings not right", and then "stop pouring water over my head" when nobody was pouring anything over his head! He was damaged before the couple of pussy, little rabbit punches that American's for some reason like to bring up (maybe to make them feel more at ease that their boy lost or something).
No wonder, The Dark rabbit puncher already worked on the back of Gmans head by that time!! Maybe its because you're a biased Benn chearleader, and you wont acknowledge this because youre British. You havent even watched the fucking fight in years you dipshit!
yea guy,s i,ve got it on tape when it first came out and what i found out that the gman got hurt real bad after he knocked benn through the ropes and if you watch real carefully you,ll see gerald walk up to benn trying to finish him off and benn ducks and comes up with the most powerfulless left hook known to man catching the gman right on the side of the head... look very close and watch him grab the side off his head and the rest is history... some left hook...
I think the fact that Mclellan was able to fight competetively with Benn for 10 rounds while suffering the effects of a serious brain injury is nothing short of incredible.
A very sad ending to a great fight.
Rabbit punches, rabbit punches and some more rabbit punches. And add some headbutts in there. And on top of that, Benns powerpunches.
Benn should have been banned from boxing after that fight. The ref should have been castrated after that fight.
I agree with most of what you say especially about the ref. The fight could have been stopped in the first. After the first round I am suprised it wasn't Benn in Gerald's shape now. Benn was a dirty fighter though I liked him. Check out Benn-Barkely.
It had to do imo with sparing with heavy, losing too much weight and quickly putting on about 20 pounds and some of Benn tactic. We don't know what kind of effect the first Jackson fight took out G Man. All of his other fights up from then till Benn where 1 round blowouts where he didn't get hit much if any. Benn was never the same after the fight. Physically or Mentally. It was a grueling fight. One of the best I can remember. I missed the fight originally but saw the highlights starting with round one and thought G Man had it in the bag, then more was showed. And I was crushed.

I just saw this fight for the first time a few months ago, and I was in awe. What a great battle.
It was amazing, how, in the first round, McClellan comes out and nearly KOs Benn. He knocks him through the ropes, beats him from pillar to post, but Benn got through it. I did think the referee was questionable with his continued efforts to seemingly give Benn a few extra seconds on every break and McClellan was clearly getting frustrated, that can't help your focus and fight plan.
There were other moments in the fight where it looked like McClellan had Benn ready to go, but the guy was Balboa-esque, he just would not go down and fought back and landed some huge shots. Just a classic that will be remembered for sad reasons instead of great ones, and rightfully so. It is a tragedy that this happened...
I still have the newspapers from the morning after. And I still have the fight on VHS, and it's aftermath.
Benn was exhausted, concussed and on a major high, so he didn't know what was going on.. you can't blame him for his actions after the fight, really.
McClellan's sisters haven't allowed Benn to visit.
I dont blame Benn for his actions after the fight. He didnt know what the fuck was going on apparently. How could he anyways with all the people that stormed the ring after.
thats fucked up that G-Mans sisters havent allowed him to visit. I'm sure Benn would want to visit after all these years.
G-Man's chin was too good for his own good.
yo juice...
I've been reading up on a lot of what transpired that fateful evening, more than usual these days as I've seen some vids on YOUTUBE that I've never seen before.
You seem to know a ton of what happened that night. Is there any other footage that I can read or view after the fight and the collapse in the corner. Like what excatly happened during Benn's interview while G-Man was slowly deteriorating in the corner.
And do you know if Benn visits him at all these days with his condition or has helped him out at all ?

It just happens. Could happen to anyone. Getting smashed over and over again in the head , eventually something bad will happen. All boxers know this. Just happened to be the G-Man who had to suffer.
Could happen to anyone.
Sad story for sure.
Benn was v.fast at 160 and had some good timing to though, how do u explain Watson being almost killed by one Eubank punch? ? It is accumulation, from previous fights but mostly from the pre fight sparring i.m.o
Benn was a much harder hitter than Jackson. Jackson was the better KO artist - he had his S.A.T (speed, timing, accuracy).
It works like this - Jackson's KO's were beautiful, Benn's were ugly.
Listen Juy...The G-Man was hit flush with multiple knockout shots from JAckson...how he walked thru them is beyond me but it does appears that as time went on he was never the same after his first encounter with Jackson.
From that first fight with Jackson Gerald was reported with severe migraine headaches-Jackson was a one of a kind.
Hey Juy...are you predicting Calzaghe to get blown away buy the younger fresher Allan Green?
Both Benn and Jackson could bang, Benn in his young prime looked like the biggest banger around but most guys got up from his bangs within say 15 seconds or so ( although still on queer street lol ), Herol Graham was out cold for 6 minutes. . . .
Jackson is the greatest knockout puncher I have ever seen.
And when I say knockout...
I mean guys simply not getting up-when Jackson hit you there was no ref to jump in and wave off the fight-the second the punch would land the fight was absoloutely positively OVER.
