First he takes on glass chinned Judah after Judah got his ass kicked by Baldomir, and now he avoids Margarito in favor of facing one of the lightest punchers I have seen on the world class level. Gone are the days of Mayweather taking on dangerous opponents like Corrales and Castillo. Gone are the days when he seemed hellbent on proving himself as a great fighter. Now he'd rather play patty cake for a few million bucks than defend his reputation as the best fighter in the world (and make a fortune doing it).
Add Mayweather's name to the list of potentially great fighters who lost it once they got a taste of riches and the high life. From this point on it's minimum risk, maximum profit. Just watch this guy make a few more easy defenses and retire, all the while comparing himself to Robinson, Leonard, Greb etc. etc. while the real boxing fans hang their heads and sigh.
Thanks, I try not to insult anybody even when they try and insult me. Thats pointless and it just shows that u cant defend your argument. I agree with u as well, the Spinks fight is a let down as well as Margo fight. They both one and the same as far as in chances to win. I just dont feel like someone who has already proven themselves has to cont. to prove himself against an opponent who hasnt proven himself. So basically what im trying to say is that their should be NO people to shut up in regards to Margo. If u want to see him lose, thats fine, but dont push for Margarito, push for Wright or someone in the top ten in P4P rankings. Put the heat on Hatton, make him fight, put the heat On Cotto make him fight Floyd. I dont think Floyd would turn them down.
No the only person I think Floyd "turned down" was Winky Wright and that is more an issue of egos. Neither one of them will take an even split and neither one of them will take a lesser split so the fight will be difficult if not impossible to make. To me that clearly is the toughest fight for Floyd and would be really interested to see it.
Good post... no insults or anything... some good facts. This is a real discussion. I can see your point. My opinion is basically the opposite of yours. I think Floyd has fought lefty boxers before (Mitchell, Judah, Corley etc.) and has never struggled. Floyd only really struggled against Castillo. So while Margarito definitely doesn't have the skills Castillo does, I think he has more of that style to at least somewhat cause Floyd some problems. The issue is that since none of the marquee fighters are willing to fight him right now there is going to be a let down anyway you look at it. If he fights Margarito he is slow and unproven. Spinks is feather fisted and runs. Baldomir has only won 2 recognizable fights and should have lost to Joshua Clottey. So basically I just decided the best idea would be to shut people up who say he is ducking and fight Margarito. That in no way mean I favor him to win or think he has a better resume than some other options (including Spinks although I think Spinks got chances because he can't KO).

I know what the thread was about, but it all related. Most of the post in this thread that I have read, have stated why Spinks is bad for Mayweather based off what Margarito offers. U right that is your opinion, and u atleast say why u prefer that, but logically speaking from what I seen of Spinks and what ive seen of Margarito, it aint hard to tell that Spinks is the more skilled fighter. U say Margo has some advantages against Floyd like size and power, Floyd has faced opposition like that before and was very impressive. Only 1 fighter has really been successful pressuring him and that is Castillo, all others have been KOed or TKoed. I dont see how margo will be any different. If he fights someone who can box and bigger than him, not that much bigger and has skills, I dont mind seeing that although I would prefer the upper tier fighters like Mosley, Delahoya, Wright. None of those people are available, hell even Hatton and Cotto are making themselves unavailable, all other challengers are pretty much the same to me: Sparring Sessions. Also Mayweather never challenged Spinks, Spinks challenged him and if Karmazin would have won and challenged Floyd he would of been considered.

I tend to agree that Floyd wouldn't have much trouble with Margarito, but it would be exciting. Check out my post a couple of posts back to see my thoughts on this then let me know what you think.
What page is it on?
I think Floyd would beat Margarito, but I think this thread was started around the idea that Spinks is simply the wrong opponent. Not saying that Margarito is a better fighter than him or a more accomplished fighter than him. Just that he has certain skills or attributes that Spinks doesn't. IMO, and its just that opinion, Margarito-Mayweather is a more exciting fight and I think more meaningful than Mayweather-Spinks. Why... because although Spinks will yield him a title in his 5th weight division, a lot of media and fans will see this as taking the safe way out (if Karmazin had won against Spinks Mayweather wouldn't have challenged him) against an opponent that lacks some of the skills Margarito has. I guess what I am saying is that it doesn't look good when people are accusing you of ducking someone (Margarito) (not saying I think that) and you fight the anti-Margarito in Spinks.

Exactly right, he doesnt use his height and has zero jab. His naturally bigger frame is nonexistent because he doesnt use it, thats why Paul Williams was allegedly giving it to him in sparring and why he doesnt want to defend his belt against his #1 mandatory. They guy is very limited and has no lateral movement or headmovement. I hardly doubt that one of the most accurate punchers in boxing would not have field day on his head.

Listen Floyd is to fast, to defensive and plain out a smarter fighter then Margarito is and if this fight happens it will play out as so!
Margarito has very limted skills people, he doesnt use his height effectively his jab while there isnt effective enough his shots are wide and loop

All those things like courage and size work against weakminded fighters. Tony is not a HW or even a LHW, he aint that much bigger than Floyd. Timing and physical ruggedness as u call it are skills, but tony want be able to time Floyd, he too slow which also does lil for his punching power, u cant hurt it if u cant hit it, all he has is a 1 punch chance and that aint enough, not against Floyd.

That is the most simplistic write up of a fight I've ever seen. You could say the same for Baldomir vs. Judah but we know how that one went. Skills alone don't win a boxing match. Things like courage, size, timing, physical ruggedness, and punching power all play a big part in winning a fight and Margarito has all of these things. You don't need to look as pretty as Mayweather does style-wise to be effective.

if i have to tell you why he should margarito then you arent a fan, you dont know the sport and you dont know whats going on in the sport..ive explained countless times, then you say stupid stuff like"who has margarito beatin besides a green Cintron?".....you're very ignorant Gomez
Charlie, U've never answered what Boxing skills that margarito possesses that will cause floyd problems. U say Margo will KO Floyd, tell me how? U never do, because their is nothing that u have seen about him that suggest that he could. The guy has limited skills. We got limited skills vs unlimited skills, who do u think is going to win?
Right, I have no idea what you're talking about with the Rita and shit, but you are a fucking moron and that's that. You took an insult aimed at you and, being the little bitch that you are, actually took it to mean something other than an insult. In other words, you are so desperate for intimacy that you are taking insults from a message board and trying to gleam some kind of come on from them. Don't flatter yourself. Basically, I am and have been telling you to fuck off. You are a moron, you're biased against caucasian fighters, and your posts actually detract from the overall quality of this forum. Do me a favor and go post your crap on some other forum like boxrec.com.
I wouldn't go throwing around Margayrita when Gayweather sounds and fits so much better. But really, knowing yourself, you shouldn't be bringing up homosexuality in a conversation with anyone should you?
I just don't get it. Nobody is going to criticize a person if they say "I like Floyd Mayweather but this is a BS match against a cherry-picked opponent." Hey I used to be the main guy on the other side of this argument, but if you're real then you can admit when you were wrong.
I agree. But then some people will defend their P4P champ no matter what.
I hate the PBF matchup with Spinks, but the usual suspects will defend it, and (christ knows why) say it adds to his 'legacy', which isn't up to much since 135, IN MY OPINION.

you have seen the light, my son.

he started to stop caring, when he started to become a draw, so he could take easy fights and make the almighty dolla
Yep...in my opinion it's the difference between a guy like James Toney and Mayweather. Toney is campaining at HW...and EVERY SINGLE ONE of his naysayers have said "well he's fighting C level heavies". Now that he has taken on Rahman and he's going to take on a COMPLETE physical mismatch in Peter they can't say that. He looks for the toughest fights out there regardless....it's why he's my favorite fighter.
I hope Floyd comes correct after Spinks and lines up fights with De La Hoya, Hatton, Margarito, Cotto, etc. Most know that these are the guys who are real threats to him.
seriously, if this is the case, there will be no more criticism from my end
