Yah I know it's old news but I re-watched the whole Corrales/Freitas fight and still cant believe he quit so easily.
I mean he was hurt when he quit but it's not like it was a sustained beating for 4 or 5 rounds or anything. He was still probably winning the fight at the time of the second KD.
Is Freitas power overrated?
I think Freitas pride and the reality that he wasnt going to hurt Chico forced him to quit. He did not look that hurt when he quit, he simply wanted out. Plain and simple.
thats an excuse. This is boxing...he could have stayed down or covered up and let Corrales hit him until weekes stops the fight.

What kind of logic is that? Are you the one taking Corrales punches? Are you the one who just brutally hit the canvas twice? Are you the one who doesnt know if his power is enough to put Chico down? No..your not, you get to casually observe as he gives all he can give and cant give anymore. If he feels he wants to stop, then he should, because he could be seriously hurt.
Mentally the moment you feel you cant win, the moment you feel like all is lost, you need to get yourself out of there before you seriously hurt yourself. Boxing or not these men are taking a beating, you arent.
dude like I said if he had stayed down after the 3rd KD or just continued and then simply turtled and let Corrales hit him until the ref stepped in then maybe he wouldn't have people critizing him. The moment he hit the canvass from the second KD he probably already knew he coudnt win, he should have stayed down then. If a fighter does not want to continue then simply "stay down"...but dont get up before 10 , have the ref say are you ready then shake your glove and say "no mas".
If you watch the 3rd KD again, Freitas doesnt even get hit with a punch, he just goes down because he does not want to get hit. He was not hurt at that time, he simply did not want to fight anymore.
I never said anything about Freitas being a coward or anything like that , just want to let you know that. I am a fan of Freitas and he could have won this fight.
Mayweather has never fealt power like corrales's. Had corrales landed a couple powerpunches in a row and had a better gameplan corrales could have come out on top simply because we dont know if mayweather has a good chin. Any pro can eat a good power punch...
He does, hes been in there with too many guys who can punch and punch big, and that includes getting hit with FLUSH power punches from Judah. He has a good chin, im not saying its incredible, no, but its good. The Judah fight for me reinforced that because the same shit Spinks was caught with, Floyd caught and withstood it all. And as the rounds drew on, he walked through it.
i cant blame any man for wantin to get out of a ring if he feels the need to, boxing is dangerous as we seen from previous incidents let alone its history, any man thats willin to step in the ring and fight can do whateva he wants in my opinion, and when freitas quit it was the right thing to do, he could have and maybe would have got seriously hurt, and for what, pride, fans, it wasnt worth his life and familys life, he was tired and hurt and knew in his heart he had nothin more to give then possibly his life. I applaud fighters like gatti and vargas etc, but i dont think fighters like freitas are sissys, pussys, ***gets etc, just smart men that want to have a future after boxing and i respect that...
I didn't call him any names. It is just my opinion that quitting looks terrible for a boxer. It means that you lack some degree of heart or warrior's spirit like Corrales or Vargas. Check out the Corrales-Mayweather or Corrales-Casamayor I fight where he was visibly pissed off because the fight was called even when he was getting a beating. Freitas on the other hand dominated the early part of the fight and then as things started to go against him... he quit. IMO all he had to do if he wanted to quit was to pretend he was KO'd. Nobody would have known the difference or cared. Bottom line was that he made a choice to quit.

Lookk at Vargas now and look at Freitas. Vargas's career went downhill after that beating from Tito. Freitas just beat Raheem and still looks good.
You're right in theory, but Freitas looked far from good in beating Raheem. In fact he looked like a completely different fighter than the Freitas pre-Corrales so I think quitting took its toll anyway. Might as well have stayed down and saved face.

good point
Bullshit. Vargas got up from 5 knockdowns against Trinidad and two devastating low blows. They don't all quit, and Vargas and Corrales is living proof. The weak ones quit.

This is a tough sport. Truth is, under the right circumstances, they'll all quit....

yah too much dancing on his toes and moving but there were times where some exchanges where he was planted and hit Corrales flush but Corrales didnt budge.
After he got up from the 3rd KD he could have just continued and let Corrales hit him and force a referee stoppage by TKO. At least my man Vargas never quit , lol.
Vargas never stayed down in his life. He is more of a man than any boxer competing today. I guess Corrales is equal in that he never stayed down either. Two of my all time favorites for heart alone.
I'm not sure what the Vegas odds were at the time but I know that many people heavily favored Corrales to upset FLoyd. I was one of them, when I saw Corrales beat down like that I was like holy shit!
Floyd is that good !
Corrales problem in that fight was that he was just relying on the one big punch.
yeah he wanted that knockout
he was takin big punches and he has a family. sometimes you have to do what you have to do.
I agree with Diego. Stay down but don't quit. Think about it nobody criticizes DLH for staying down against Hopkins(and I am pretty damn positive that he could have got up).

Yeah and Corrales was totally unfocused as he had a pending jail sentence hanging over his head after the fight. I still would favor Floyd to win if that stuff wasn't going on but I think it would have been more competitive. And I think Floyd's chin is pretty good...Corley landed a huge uppercut on him but he didn't go down.
Corrales punchs like a Heavyweight and can take shots like one., so does Jose Luis Castillo thats why both of them can trade huge shots in their first fight. George Foreman while commentating that fight said that Corrales should cut the ring off and nail him. but Corrales did something you should never do with speed guys and that is to chase them.

Corrales was just walking straight at floyd, not even throwing a jab or try to set up is punch. He cant' expect to land a good punch like that. And yes, it would have been nice if he tested floyd's chin.
IMO, yes. Had Corrales been able to land anything significant and clean Mayweather probably would have been on his ass too. Too bad it's almost near impossible to hit Floyd with anything flush.
