Before the Ajamu fight started, Roy was interviewed by the bobo sports channel he was fighting on and said he's a 'fat boy' now and may want to move up to cruiserweight. I think it was obvious he had trouble making weight, and he made that known more than once in interviews leading up to the fight.
I think if he moved up to cruiser, he could get a little snap back in his shots, and have a little more stamina. If he's going to fight Glen or Joe, he should do it at a catch-weight of 190 lbs. Roy could get Shilstone again, workout hard without worrying about weight, and go out looking his best.
His body has never looked the same since he came down, nor has it acted the same. At 190 he can reverse that to some degree.
I think Roy could beat Glen Johnson, if he boxed in the middle of the ring, used his feet and stayed off the ropes. Glen as a high punchrate, but if roy can counter like he was against Ajamu, then he'll be fine. Hopkins and him would be a good fight, since hopkins has come up to 175 and peformed well at that weight. Thats the fight I would like to see. Calzaghe, I dont really got too much respect for his fight game (I havent seen that much either, except for whats on youtube). it seems like he is pimp slapping people when he punches and thats the only reason Lacy went 12 rounds. Roy will prolly fight Glen again and redeem himself for that loss, and I think Hopkins will prolly stay retired.
He's not going to retire, no matter how smart that would be. He's said as much. Might as well discuss what he can do to maximize his chances of winning since he IS going to fight.
There's no incentive for Glen or Joe to put on a bunch of weight to fight Roy at this point...
Money is the incentive, and the fact that there's no one else to fight that will get them an easy paycheck. Both Glen and Joe probably see Roy as an easy paycheck...and they might be right.
The formula to beat Roy is simple.
Pressure him and bully him around. Nothing more nothing less.
The reason Ajamu failed was because he gassed out and tanked after the first round. Second of all he was mainly leaning over pushing Roy up against the ropes which was good that is what he need to do...But what he failed to do was go for his head. If you want to catch Roy Jones Jr. and hurt him you check his chin you dont work his body.
I dont give Roy much of a chance against Calzaghe due to that Calzaghe pressures his opponents and if he could pressure Jones like he did Lacy non stop pressure he will get the knock out...Of course I am speaking only at this point in their careers if this were to happen.....Jones had no footwork for Ajamu and strutting around the ring while raising his hands to get a cheap pop doesnt count....

call the police its a spinxjinx sighting
R.J.J can still beat that english guy Calzaggi, wonder what Calzaggi would be able to when he has to come forward and deal with R.J.J landing first then stepping around ......this aint a musclebound Jeff Lacy who walked straight in were talkin here

And Roy adjusted and won the fight.
Like I said, Roy shouldn't fight a real cruiser...that's 200 lbs weight limit. Roy should just get Glen or Joe to fight him at 182-190. You don't lose all that muscle...not all that muscle that Roy put on. It's unhealthy, as we have seen. One way to help negate that is to move back up in weight, where Roy looked magnificent.

Roy can fight at cruiser or even heavy if he schedules well, but if he wants title shots or fights with the elite in the division, cruiserweight is dangerous as we've seen that he can't take a punch very well if he's caught. He used to be able to avoid being hit. Now Glen 9-loss Johnson has pummeled him. What do you think Guillermo Jones or O'Neil Bell would do to him?
When Badi Ajamu pressured Roy in the 1st Jones was backed up, seemed hurt, and had to hold on. Now imagine a heavier, stronger puncher applying pressure like that.

Meet Joe at a Catchweight of 190?
You serious?
That's 22 lb's over what Joe is used to, Joe might aswell call out Floyd Mayweather.
LMAO!!! i was thinking the same fucking shit :D
roy should fight virgil hill at 190....both guys at the end of there careers. i think hill still has the wba title too, so it would make sence that both go out in a title fight. if roy wins, its his 5th title in as many weight classes and if hill wins he gets some redemption for that body shot ko.
For Roy to move up in weight I would have to hold my breathe. His performance against Badi Ajaum did not speak of a resurrection for his career....it showed a slow, drawn out conclusion as he fights with what he has left. Can he compete on some level of the professional boxing world? Definetly. What leve is that? I am still unsure, as I think he himself must be. When Badi Ajamu pressured Roy in the 1st Jones was backed up, seemed hurt, and had to hold on. Now imagine a heavier, stronger puncher applying pressure like that.
I can say one thing for sure. Roy Jones, Jr. showed me that any man with a big punch, who can keep the pressure on him, will make his mental game collapse and have a good shot at stopping him. I'm not sure moving up in weight is a good idea with that in mind.
At 18, Jones was fighting at 139.
At 16, Jones was fighting at BANTUMWEIGHT.
The guy has small bone structure, I think he can make 164 and fight strong (Taylor, Wright).
I don't think he can do that. It's not like he's in his 20's.
Why do Jones & all Jones backers keep asking for smaller guys???
Why call out Hopkins who has fought at middleweight 160 or under for 14 years. He fought 1 fight on the way out at 175. He is retired. Also stop calling out Taylor & Calzaghe both guys that fight 5 to 15 pounds lighter.
There are plenty of light heavies to fight pick any of these ranked near the top 10 good money & I would be impressed if he beat them.
ANTONIO TARVER 24-4 (18)
GLEN JOHNSON 44-10-2 (29)
ZSOLT ERDEI 24-0 (15)
CLINTON WOODS 39-3-1 (24)
TOMASZ ADAMEK 30-0 (21)
JULIO GONZALEZ 40-3 (24)
PAUL BRIGGS 25-2 (18)
HUGO GARAY 26-2 (13)
CHAD DAWSON 23-0(15)
And I think he would be crazy to fight a Chris Byrd or 1 of these cruisers
O'NEIL BELL 26-1-1 (24)
GUILLERMO JONES 33-3-2 (26)
STEVE CUNNINGHAM 19-0 (10)
JEAN-MARC MORMECK 32-3 (22)
JOHNNY NELSON 45-12-2 (29)
WAYNE BRAITHWAITE 21-2 (17)
PIETRO AURINO 34-2 (16)
DAVID HAYE 17-1 (16)
KRZYSZTOF WLODARCZYK 36-1 (27)
Roy has trouble, period. You are not in his camp juy juy, don't act like you know what goes on there. Looks are deceiving, obviously.
Have you been in his camp?
