According to the a PR newspaper cotto's team have expressed interest in fighting Baldo next. Now it's up to Top Rank management to get that fight signed.
I thought I throw in some interesting facts and not opinions about Miguel. If you want to see Baldi's go do the research and paste them. NO I didn't do the research my boy did, I checked most of it and its pretty accurate tho.

For a fighter who's been highly critizised for his level of opposition, chin, stamina, whatever... These facts aren't so bad are they? Overall, I give him a damn good chance against Baldi.
balomir can beat cotto..his power is probably about equal to torress..but he's stronger and has a granite chin..baldomir by late round KO
How is his power equal to Torres?
They both started their careers against bums in South America.
Baldomir didnt score a KO until around his 20th fight against complete bums. He is 43-9-6 (13 KO's)
Torres has around 11 first round KO's in 30 fights. He is 29-1 (27 KO's). Mostly against bums, but 90% of Baldomirs fights were against bums too.
Baldomir KO'd Gatti, big deal. Gatti has been floored and KO'd by a bunch of people at even lower weight classes, and it still took 9 rounds of wearing him down with hard shot after shot to do it. Not saying Baldomir isnt a good fighter cause he is and he has really impressed me lately. But I dont think he hits harder than Torres at all. Plus is shots are slower and not as sharp as Torres' either.
Carlos Baldomir seems to be a tough pug who can get to you by relentlessly walking you down and hitting you over punches you throw. Well at least this was the case with the Gatti fight. Gatti doesn't have and never had the power and boxing ability Cotto has.
I hadn't ever really seen much of Baldomir before his last 3 fights. If you know more about him than I do then I will undoubtedly defer to what you say, but I feel like these last 2 fights in particular have made him look better than he is.
Cotto has been in bad shape in two fights. We all know what happened in the Corley fight...that needs no more discussion. The Torres fight saw him step in against a COMPLETE UNKNOWN who had an aesthetically pleasing record against more unknowns in his own country. It just so happened that Torres turned out to a pretty damned dynamic puncher with good handspeed.
I'm not sold on this being a huge step up fight for Cotto. He has been in with just about every type of fighter you can be in with. Experienced vets, good punchers, slick boxers, tough as nails agressors. It would certainly be a tough fight as Baldomir appears to be a strong willed fighter, but I just cannot think that highly of him yet.
I have followed Cotto's career for quite some time now. I liked what I saw when he was a young kid and making 140 wasn't affecting him. He was a VERY fluid boxer/puncher with all of the neccessary skills to be an elite fighter. I feel like he will look like a monster again when he moves to 147. He has had rocky moments in the past couple of years, but he has ALWAYS stepped up his game in the face of adversity and he has shown a huge heart. I feel like in many ways he IS ready and he HAS been tested in just about every way possible (besides facing A level fighters like Mayweather and such). If he were some guys who hadn't fought a top 10 fighter yet and hadn't ever had to face adversity after being hurt bad by a punch I think we could call him very untested...I just don't think that's the case.
Well at least we can both agree on the fact that it'd be an exciting fight because both guys bring pleasing styles to the table.
You've seen as much of Baldomir as I; and more of Cotto, apparently. So, we'll just have to agree to disagree on our prognoses of this fight until we see. I just hope we do see and soon.
Well, either way, let's hope we can find out. I do think style-wise those two match up rather nicely. It will be an exciting fight, no doubt in my mind about that.
Yea style wise this could turn out to be a great fight. This is the biggest fight i wanna see right now.
By boy versus man, I am speaking of experience....and neither N'dou nor Abduallaev have what I perceive as the raw determination that Baldomir possess. No, Baldomir does not have a "wrecking ball right hand"; but it's crisp and accurate and he's undetered by incoming. That's why I see him winning; he has a better chance of stunning and rattling Cotto than Cotto has of rattling him. He might hurt him, yes; and 147 is closer to a natural weight for Cotto; but if he's stunned by 140 Lb punchers, then even the average punching Baldomir at 147 has a good shot of wobbling him. To me, it's about mental maturity. Baldomir's been there, done that and wasn't intimidated by either big even, facing Judah and Gatti in front of their hometown crowds. He's impervious to pressure...and provides a steady stream of pressure himself. Also, he has shown that if your get off a good combination on him, he is more than willing to jump right back on top of you and take the momentum back.
Cotto, I'm saying, would go through a trial of "manhood" in this sort of fight. He would either graduate to the next level, or be pushed down the ladder. Right now, it's up for grabs what would happen. Personally, I'd favour Baldomir to turn the trick a third time against a name opponent. He's been waiting a Loooong time for this; and I don't see him giving it up easily. Cotto and he, I believe, would produce a war of the highest calibre...as he would with Hatton, though not quite as explosive, due to styles.
Cotto hasn't really been tested....this would be THE test. Call it a hunch, I've just got a feeling about Carlos. He's not great; but he's hungry...he wants what he's been denied for all these years....to show the whole world how good he is. A motivated man is a dangerous man.

Determination can only get you so far. Plenty of determined boxers out there who suck. Not saying Baldomir sucks cause hes obviously a good fighter, but I just dont think he is on the same level as Cotto. And im sure Cotto will be determined too.

Never said he wasn't....but how motivated comparitively can only be determined in the ring.

Was the Irony in the bold intentional?
I hope your right I would love to see a man with huge power and awesome boxing skill. I mean that.
Check out some of his early fights, If you havent seen them I think you will be surprised.
You have got to be kidding? Watch the fight with Maussa and witness a complete boxing lesson. Early in his career Cotto was regarded as to much of a boxer and was to boring, watch the fight with Ceballos. Now he is considered an all out slugger by soime which is ridiculous. Watch some of his fights before the weight problems.
Buy you are a fukin idiot so I can see why you would say that.

Good post. Although I wouldn't necessarily agree with you that Cotto hasn't been test. Also, the Malinaggi camp will tell you that Malinaggi tested him. :D
lol!! True. :D
Unbelievable. Baldomir beats one of the most unstable fighters ever in Judah (who shouldn't have even shown up with the performance he gave) and a past-prime, C+ fighter in Gatti and all of a sudden he's this tough wrecking ball with a cannon of a right hand.
Cotto has been in against guys that he hasn't been able to hurt and he's never been discouraged by that before. N'Dou and Abduallaev both ate Miguels best punches and kept trying to push him backwards. Cotto just fought his fight, busted them up a bit, and won those fights.
Cotto won't have to drain himself any more...he is still only going to get better. He is a 25 year old fighter with a good pedigree and tons of talent. I don't think this is a case of boy and man at all.

Explain...not that I disagree. I think it would be a really interesting fight. Cotto would be more competitive than Gatti or Judah. On the other hand I see where you are coming from... Cotto's biggest strength is his KO power, and I am not sure any welter could KO Baldomir. But Cotto has beaten some tough fighters at 140, and has great body work which I believe is Baldomir's weakness.
cotto doesnt have enough ring experience to deal with baldy. the reason why baldy has been winning is because he uses every advantage he can find in the ring. cotto knows what his advantages are and so does baldy. i just think baldy's experience and accuracy would neutralize cotto's power. in about five more fights though i think cotto will be a dominate force at welterweight. he just needs more time to mature, and a loss for cotto right now would prevent that from happening. he needs to keep taking the kinds of fights he has been just for a little while longer and then he should try to assert himself in this tough division.
i see cotto winning in a tough fight
as long as cotto doesnt try and bang
out with baldi he will win
cotto punches are short inside and
accurate
baldi is wide and with cotto hands up
he will block and counter all day
and his body work is impressive as well
