I know Im in the complete minority but think about it. He could still get a huge fight with Cotto or Hatton.
Gatti didnt beat Baldy last night because he just isnt better then Baldy. There have been so many people saying that Gatti is done now or should hang them up but it simply isnt true.
Look at Gatti and look at Vargas. Vargas is slow and looks completely shot. Gatti didnt look that way at all. He didnt look like he had lost a step and I actually thought that he looked better last night then he had in any time in recent memory. He just wasnt better then Baldy but he was never better then Baldy at any point in his career.
In all of Gatti's recent wins, he still looked just above average in all of them. He looked shitty trying to box and he was so uncoordianted. Last night he didnt look uncoordinated at all. It was the most coordinated I had seen him look in a long time. He had nice speed, great power, and were throwing good combos. Baldy was just a monster.
I think Gatti couldve beat Cotto or Hatton last night or atleast wouldve gave them hell. Baldy is a true WW and they arent but Baldy also is a exception because he has a head and chin like a Middleweight. Gatti's D sucked but his D has always sucked. If he hit Cotto or Hatton with those shots then they would be in trouble and I also think that he would take there punches alot better then Baldy's. Even though he had no KO's, its still like Hatton vs Callazo. This guy can hurt you and you cant really hurt him because he's been there forever.
I actually thought Gatti looked good last night and I definatly think he would give Cotto or Hatton problems. If he loses to them then he can retire but I dont think a lost to a big monster like Baldy should hurt him at this point. If you say that Gatti should retire because he's been hit in the head way too much then I say ok and I understand that but if you say that he should retire because his skills are deteroiating then thats a false statement
Thanks for the memories, Arturo. Thanks for the Ward trilogy (the first was The Ring's Fight of the Year 2002 while the third was Fight of the Year-2003), the Ivan Robinson fights (especially the first, which you lost by controversial split, but nonetheless declared Fight of the Year-1998 by The Ring), the come-from-behind KO victory over Wilson Rodriguez, the Gabriel Ruelas meeting (so, close that it was a draw in two of three scorecards until you ended it with what The Ring declared as Knock Out of the Year-1997)...
Thanks!
Cotto has also looked like crap a bunch of times and I think he didnt look that good against Paulie. He also gets rocked in nearly every fight. Im still interested to seeing what Cotto will look like at 147 because he could be more comfortable from not draining or he could get completely exposed because if he struggled with guys who he outweighs by a 100 pounds then what will he do with guys his size? You talk about Damgard but he has a much better resume then someone like Torres who almost stopped Cotto or N'Dou who got destroyed by Witter
I love how people say Witter destroyed Ndou, lol you could not have seen that fight, just like most people who make that comment. That was a very very close fight. I had Ndou winning more rounds but he was knocked down twice so he lost a very close fight. Far from a destruction my friend, i suggest you watch the fight.
Gatti can still fight on. he's never been a great fighter. even when he was young he got the krap beat out of him at times. thats just how it is. Gatti isnt as gone as sum of you say. he has fought worse. his speed and stuff still seems there
Thats Crazy talk.Cotto would beat Gatti's ass much worse than Baldomir did.I dont see what the hell makes you think Baldy could beat cotto, was it all the trouble a one-handed gatti gave him? lmao.
Dude did we see the same fight? I think you need to take another look at the Damgaard fight were gatti looked like crap before you start hyping Baldomir up.
i would like to see any point in the damgaard fight where gatti looked like crap?
Gatti is done. He was getting hit with so many shots last night. It was hard to watch him get hit with those right hands over and over and not have an answer for them. It was very depressing, and Id rather not see it again, especially against Cotto, who would stop him in less than 4 rounds.
What are you talking about? If your saying that there isnt a different in weight classes then you are completely wrong. You say stuff about ribs, jaws, and bones dont get stronger? If your facing a guy who is much bigger then the guys you normaly fight, then he wont get hurt nearly as easy.
Gatti is a very hard puncher and hit Baldy with everything he had and Baldy smiled. Baldy hadnt never really hurt guys at 147 but 2 guys moving up like Zab & Gatti, he stopped one and had the other running.
Hatton dominated and bullied people at 140. He goes to 147 against one of the supposedly weakest guys in the division and a man who has no punch but yet he rocked Hatton a bunch and Hatton couldnt hurt him at all.
There is a differnce in weight classes. You act like Cotto isnt much bigger then the guys he hurts? Alot of those fights it looks like he is just winning because of his size. Guys give him problems but in the end he is just too big. He wont be too big at 147 and he wont win fights because of his size. It wont be as easy as you think. It could go either way
It's a fact Cotto's been draining the shit out of himself to make weight, that was because they had Gatti, KT, PBF among others in that division, that's where the good money fights at that time where for him. Have you ever tried starving and dehydrating yourself to make weight for a fight? It really takes all the strenght out of you, even if you hydrate and put 15 pds by next day, you're still nowhere near 100% of your performance. Yes, Cotto will fight bigger guys, stronger punchers, but he won't have to kill himself before the fight. Hatton is a different story, he never had a problem making 140 as Cotto's been having for the past 2 years or so. It remains to be seen how he comes up in weight and hits the WW division and fight the bigger boys. Hell no I don't think it'll be easy, but he'll be a lot more comfortable fighting those guys than Jr WW, that's my point.
Let me tell u my friend, Gatti was very lucky last night he faced a guy with 12 KOs in 42 bouts. U put him in there with any of those two and he could get seriously hurt. As for Cotto, man I don't think jaws, facial bones, shoulders and ribs get any harder at WW than they are at Jr WW, plus he won't have to kill himself for making weight like he's been doing. He should come up stronger and with a better chin, the way he was before he fought Corley. To put Gatti in the ring with young punchers at this point of his career would be to murder him.

How did he have a better resume than torres?
And as for the witter fight, what was it like 3 KD's for witter and the fight was STILL close on scoring? Yeah sounds like he really whooped his ass.
Thats Crazy talk.Cotto would beat Gatti's ass much worse than Baldomir did.I dont see what the hell makes you think Baldy could beat cotto, was it all the trouble a one-handed gatti gave him? lmao.

I still say that people may be overdoing it with the short passing game. I really think it was our game plan and not Brunell for a number of reasons. I think Saunders did it to get our O in a rhythm, to mislead the Jags for next week, and he probally saw that it could be really effective against them.
Ill be the 1st one to rip Brunell if he goes short because I hate that more then anything but I honestly believe that against Houston & Minny it was the game plan and it worked. People act like we did nothing against Minny. We still scored 16 points, missed a FG, and kicked 3 FG's inside the 10. We just werent up to speed yet because we really didnt have Portis and it was our 1st time running the O at full speed.
Now look at the Dallas game. We didnt do crap but you could see that our game plan was different. We didnt really try to do any of those screens and swing passes. We did play action and Brunell looked deep but he didnt throw it for whatever reason, wether it was pressure, no one was open, or if he was gun shy. My point is I expect the same against the Jags but we should have some better results this time because were more ready.
Which takes me back to one of my HS games. It was the middle of the year and we had a great team. We were playing the worst team in the league this week and playing the best team the following week. We knew we were going to win no matter what this week and we had a star RB. NO lie, we ran the ball up the middle every play. Our RB set a school record for carries. We tried to kill him but it was all really a setup. By doing that we only scored 14pts that game and barley won. We didnt do that for them, we did that for our next opponent. The next week we came up with this great game plan with a brand new offense, trick plays, and so on. We did everything totaly different.
My point is that I see that happening on Sunday. I bet you wont see us run one play this week that we did last week and I bet anything that the game plan is totally differnt. Still based around the run but with a downfield attack. We killed Houston with the 4wr Shotgun Draw but I bet we dont run that play one time against the Jags
Baldomire is better then you think and I would pick him right now to beat Cotto or Hatton. This isnt a pound for pound thing. They are in his division now and as you saw in the Hatton-Callazo fight, there not going to be pushing these guys around and flat out dominating because of there size advantage. There power wont hurt these guys nearly as much and in turn they will be more hurt by these guys power
Thats Crazy talk.Cotto would beat Gatti's ass much worse than Baldomir did.I dont see what the hell makes you think Baldy could beat cotto, was it all the trouble a one-handed gatti gave him? lmao.

Gatti won't get another shot at the big names anytime soon after last night. If Baldomir beat Gatti one sidedly, Hatton can do much worse to him. Hatton and Cotto are more skilled than Baldomir in my opinion. They hit harder too.
What do you mean he wont get another shot? He can get anything he wants. He's the biggest money man in boxing behind Oscar.

I aggree with everything you said, 1 or even 2 years ago Gatti still would not have beaten Baldomier. Gatti did look good last night, he just got his ass kicked by the better fighter. And Gatti humping the ropes wasn't going to lure Baldomier in, lol.
yah, that was funny. WTF? bouncing on the ropes like 5 times! even the crowd didnt have a reaction. I like Gatti, he's a warrior but he should retire. The punch to Gatti's elbow or wrist last night wherever it was could have had an effect, I dunno.
I don't think he should anymore. Maybe one more fight, but a kind of 'good bye fight' if you will. Right now, Hatton, Cotto and the other top welterweights are too much for Gatti. Gatti is in the position where retiring won't hurt him as much as him continuing to fight and most likely losing.
If Gatti fights one last good by fight, they better make sure that opponet has no heart in him to fight and can take as good a punch as Gamache or Milliet.
I know Im in the complete minority but think about it. He could still get a huge fight with Cotto or Hatton.
