I love Arturo gatti but it is done. the way he fights and his heart is not in boxing today, thats why i was so saddened after his defeat tonight. it really broke my heart, but he can't tale any more punishment, i wish him luck outisde the ring. Forever my favorite tho. The Blood and Guts Warrior Arturo Gatti
When you recommend Gatti as a hero to your kid, will you also tell your kid that Arturo had (has?) alcohol problems? That he beat up his girl? That he beat up an old man? That he has had several DWI's to the extent that his license was revoked in multiple states?
You know... since you brought up the "hero" thing....
He BEAT UP his girl? Where did you hear this?
Damn! You guys are such a bunch of stupid losers! You are acting surprised about Gatti losing! Why? We told you he was a bun. Did you not listen? How many beatdowns does this clown has to take before you clowns admit he is nothing but a bum who only produced great fights when paired with other bums? If Gatti movies up in weight and they match him with Tito trinidad you idiots will be saying he can outpunch Tito! Hell you idiots would even pick him over Hopkins!
Is he a bun or a bum?
i feel the exact same way. gatti is my hero. but i think hes got one or two more fights in him. but i would not be suprised at all if this was his last fight.
I completely agree... I think he could fight at least 2 more times but I think hes gonna retire. If he does, Ill miss him a lot hes one of my favs. but hes got a baby at home so at least he can spend more time with her and his gurl so thats good. I wish him the best of luck =D
Thats because Buddy Mgsit cant train for shit. He does not know what to tell the fighter in the corner. It's like he only has one gameplan once the other fighter figures it out, he freezes, thats why his son will get his ass kicked soon
Buddy McGirt is having a terrible year with his fighters.
yup, if anybody is losing stock rite now its def. him. nobody is gonna want to train with him now.
I picked Baldy to win this fight by decision. I just thought that Gatti looked slow and a little uncoordinated against Damgaard. He wore Damgaard down over the course of the fight and busted up his face badly, but there's something about the way he punches now, that I just can't see him landing those one shot knockouts anymore. His punches have slowed considerably and he doesn't seem to have great timing or accuracy. Knowing that Damgaard took Gatti 11 rounds, I was pretty sure Baldy would be a much more difficult fight and I didn't think Gatti would be able to deal with it.
Then, yesterday morning, I rewatched the Gatti Damgaard fight, and I just didn't like the way Gatti fought at all. Damgaard was able to swarm him at times and he took way too many unecessary shots. I just knew that this fight was going to go badly for Gatti, and I like him, so I decided I wouldn't watch. Thank god I didn't, because I think it would have been really hard to watch him take another beating like that. And to actually see him go out on the canvas would have been terrible. It sucks enough just reading it. Baldy has a chin made of steel, and I knew Gatti wouldn't be able to hurt him and keep him back, and Gatti would just get swarmed in close, where he doesn't seem to be able to fight well anymore.
Buddy McGirt is having a terrible year with his fighters.
edit: I also think Gatti should retire. It sucks, but there's nothing left for him to do, and there's no reason for him to go the Holyfield route and take continuous pointless beatings until his old age.
Gatti's problem is that he is what he is; a brawler. This guy (Baldomir) will not be beat by a bralwer. He has the chin and the stamina to trade. A slick skill boxer will have to take him out. Someone who can box for 12 rounds and not in short spurts.
Gatti did not jab enough, nor did he ever simply circle away from Baldomir's right hand (ala Spinks vs Kamarzan a few weeks ago). When you are over matched in strength, you fight smart. Gatti can do it, but he only does it for a short minute., then its back to brawling. The last time I saw Gatti jab consistently was against Jese Leja.
If you have not seen this fight, PM for a link.
Your hero is a second-rate fighter who sold alot of tickets with his fighting style. That fighting style was established in wars with OTHER secnd-rate fighters. A life-and -death trilogy with Micky ward? Micky Ward was dominated by Zab Judah.
I'm glad to see it come to an end for Gatti. Because he was getting HBO dates that should have gone to other more deserving fighters.
Good riddance.
He got spots on HBO because he's possible the most exciting fighter to ever set foot inside a ring!!! not because of his skill. He got spots on HBO, because everyone wanted to watch his fights. He got spots on HBO, because even the people who hated him, tuned into watch the drama. i bet u watched him everytime he got an HBO... that is, if u like action fights.
Spots going to more deserving fighters?? who deserved it more, that couldnt get a spot the next week??? what are u talking about, i doubt his spots ever collided with anyone who was more deserving than gatti. i dont know whos career uve been following, but there is no fighter or athlete more deserving to be a hero for a kid then arturo gatti!!

I think Gatti should hang em up also. I love the guy but, really there's nowhere for him to go. I dont think he's a natural 147 lb fighter. And he's getting too old to try and fight at 135 or 140. tonight he said how hard it was getting to make weight.
gatti has come back from a retiring loss many many times. but i dont think its a question of whether or not he CAN come back, i dont think he SHOULD come back. make no mistake, i would love to see gatti in the ring again. but i think enough is enough.
arturo, you have nothing left to prove, plz, im begging you: walk away while you can still walk.I very sadly agree completely
If he wants maybe fight one more fight at 140..vs a scrub to retire iwth a win...
or fight like hatton or cotto then retire at 140
i really dont think hatton could give a fuck about gatti after this fight. and i dont think gatti should dive into yet another big fight with cotto after his performance tonight.
gatti...still my favorite fighter, the reason i keep boxing, but yeah probably worst thing ive ever seen on television... depressed me, i agree he didnt seem like the old gatti... he didnt throw a lot of punches and didnt land well close, sad, it really is but, still the #1 champ in my eyes
Arturo Gatti has always been one of my faves, but he needs to hang them up. He really didn't seem like the old Gatti, just a shell of his former self. Gatti has never been mistaken for his buddy Pernell Whitaker, but damn, he was getting tagged. When he went to the canvas for the second time, it was all over. Gatti cannot come back from this one, I hope he just retires and enjoys the rest of his life in good health.
What I worry is that he won't stay retired. I thought he should've retired after Mayweather, but hes stubborn and continued on. Hes a guy who loves the crowds cheers and the spotlight, and if he doesn't get his boxing fix, hes gonna look for trouble outside the ropes. In reality, he doesn't have anything to do other than fighting to keep him occuppied, so you really gotta wonder.
I think his deterioration has to do with him fighting bigger men, all the hard fights and his advanced age. Lets remember, hes no spring chicken. I've been following boxing my whole life, and I have never seen any fighter in as many brutal wars as Gatti. I'm really racking my brain, not Saad Muhammad or Basilio or Giardello. Gatti has had a significant toll taken on his body from all of his ring escapades. I saw him last year in Hoboken at DePalma's Pizzeria on Washington St., and you could see the damage. The mans eyes are *****ier than mine from all of the scar tissue from his fights. You could just see it in his face that he was nearing the end.
i agree 100%. The Mayweather beating may have contributed to Arturo not taking punches as well as he use to.
i dont see how
sure there was shit loads of punches from mayweather but hes been taking harder shots hes whole carear
