As reported by Keith Idec of Northjersey.com Evander Holyfield sat at Bernard Hopkins' table at a dinner Friday night at MGM Grand to honor Hopkins who has recently retired from Boxing. At the dinner Holyfield asked Hopkins for his opinion on his decision to continue fighting. Idec reports that Hopkins gave Holyfield a brutally honest answer.
Quoted by NorthJersey, Hopkins said: "I told him he should be done with it. He's done everything he can do in this sport. What else is left for him to accomplish? And he doesn't need the money, so why keep fighting? I told him he
should just enjoy his kids and give back to the sport in some other way."
In regards to how Holyfield handled the advice, Hopkins said, "He just kind of put his head down and started eating his salad. But he heard me. He understood where I was coming from."

Isn't Holyfield divorced?
If he runs out of stamina he could not only lose but get hurt. He should just quit. He's past the point where he can even be a serious contender.
Thing is, people nowadays think Holyfield is gonna get hurt by BUMS. Fuck, i mean he's not gonna lose to this guy. And sure as hell not get hurt. Unless he's fighting Wlad or Peter, you can worry.
I noticed a lot of people in the board treating holyfield like a bum and same with tyson (some treat tyson like a god but thats another story). These two guys had a good chance at beating any of the top 10 all time heavies in the sport.
Evander had the tools and heart to beat and atleast compete with any of the top 10.
Tyson was still a prospect when he was dominant and KOing everyone from my viewpoint. If he properly prepared for a top10 alltime heavy he could make them look like tomato cans as well
no ones denying either fighter's mark on the sport of boxing, but both need to retire (as Tyson's already appeared to), in this case being Holyfield, who's lost 5 of his last 8 fights since 1999. I don't think anyone is calling Holyfield a bum.

You can tarnish a legacy. Alot of younger fans who didn't see him fight in his prime will remember him as the guy who got tooled in all the fights they saw him in.
Like Tyson for example, I was in high school when he was in his prime. Back then you did not bet on whether he would win or lose, you bet on how long it took him to KO his opponent. He was VERY dominating back then. To alot of younger guys, he's just a guy who lost to Williams and McBride.
and buster. when ppl make those comments and say how he gets tired fast and didnt have ne heart dont know the 80s tyson
Lets face it thers is no heavyweight takents at all. i think evander holyfield see s that and knows he could easily take the heavyweight division. wats the worst he has to fight? Klitchcos dumb @$$. Or james toneys fat self. Evander is a legend so dont at all dis him.

Bernard Hopkins said what he had to say the right way.
He told him like it was but in a positive way.
He told him he had already accomplished everything there is to accomplish in the sport. What is the point?
hopkins is right, what's there to prove, holyfield hurts his legacy with each fight he loses, and in some ways it's even worse considering the heavyweight division is utter garbage as it is.
You cant hurt a legacy.
