In a lot of Arturo Gatti's interviews, they have asked him if the thinks he deserves to go into the hall of fame. he says he does because of all the outstanding action fights hes put on, how he was able to change his style, and because he has fought some of the best ever (DLH, PBF) even in losing efforts.
I think he should get into the hall of fame personally, not because of the competition he faced, but because he is what boxing is all about. Hes has great heart and that is something boxing lacks today. He is still the face of boxing IMO, not PBF, and i think he should always be remembered. What better way to be remembered then put into the hall?
There's a few undeserving HOF.....the fighter I can think of is Terrible Norris.
lol nah man he beat SRL and was in the top 10 p4p for like 800 years .
Surely it's farcical to just compare Gatti to other fighters who have made the HOF. To say that there's other fighters who are already in the HOF who don't deserve it, and by that rationale Gatti should be in, even if you don't believe his record is deserving of it, is bizarre logic. The question is whether, based on his merits and achievements, he is deserving on his place in the HOF.
And the answer is NO. Sure he's been in some great fights. But great fights don't make a great fighter. You can get classic fights at every level of boxing, it doesn't mean they were fought by great fighters. Yes, his fights (in particular the 1st) against Ward were very entertaining, but the point is Ward was a totally one-dimensional fighter at the end of his career; a world class fighter (deserving of the HOF) would've schooled him for 12 rounds. Whenever Gatti has stepped up to truly world class level he hasn't just lost, he's been given an absolute lesson. Think PBF - did Gatti even land a punch in those 6 rounds? Embarrassing.
Great fighter to watch, definitely shouldn't a Hall of Famer.
That's a pretty good post , one side of it i can see is that if you put Gatti in then it's not really fair to others that were the same type of fighter but didnt get the HBO spotlight.
theres alot less deserving fighters in there than gatti. dwight qawi is in the hall of fame,. bobby chacon is in, Gatti has to be in. 4 fights of the year? he has to be in. the standards aren't as high as some posters think.
Go and look up Bobby Chacon record, Gatti doesnt compare to Chacon, so go and talk about somone you know. Instead of dissing someone you know nothing about.
i dont know about now, because he did lose to baldomir. but he has fought both DLH and PBF, two of the best fighters ever, in losing efforts, and he is an absolute legend of the ring and he has got to be remembered for the next 100 years some how. I wouldnt be outraged if they didnt put him in, and i wouldnt be outraged if they did. catch my drift?
Gatti Hall Of Fame! Yeah right! He was and still is nothing but a club fighting bum! Look past his skin color and see the truth! Putting this bum in with all those great fighters in the hall is a dishonor.
who the fuck are you to say "we" you aren't shit. he belongs in the hof more than alot of the other inductees do. who but gatti guarantees he gives his all? nobody. there are plenty of bums in the hof who are shit compared to gatti. fuckyouI'll buy that
No, Gatti is an overglorified prizefighter. Everytime he stepped up in class he's been beat. We can't award the HOF status on just the merits of heart and detirmination.

So, if a WIN over baldi was supposed to HELP his cause... does an EMBARRASSING LOSS at the hands of baldi HURT his cause?
Just wondering.
I don't think so really he was so much a part of the sport on of the biggest non-heavy ticket sellers always fought on tv never ever backed down. He just ran into bad style match ups except he should have beat baldy but gatti could not fight off the back foot. I say yes he had to ok title runs and was one of the most popular fights of the 90's and 00's not to mention he did more than most expectid of him.
I'm new to these boards, but correct me if I'm wrong - I've never seen DUPLICITY campaigning to get himself voted to the Boxing Hall Of Fame. I believe the topis is whether Arturo Gatti should be in the Hall or not. Don't act immaturely.
tell that to him.
gatti's done a whole lot more for the sport than you have, not to mention hes done more with his life that you could even dream about. respect ur superiors, rump-rider.

What else has he done besides losing to the top fighters? Micky Ward is a total bum so beating him means nothing! You put two evenly matched bums in the ring you will probably get a good fight but does it mean they are great fighters? Only if you are an idiot.
read the thread, and see my post i made earlier about what gatti did.
thats intresting cuz thats not the only thing gatti has done with his career.

If a bum like Gatti makes it into the hall of fame it should be disbanded as a organization. I know the internet is filled with white guys who do nothing but blow the skills of mediocre white fighters out of proportion but this is amazing. Losing with courage or struggling to beat club fighters like Micky Ward does not qualify anyone for the hall!

btw, i dont give a fuck too much about this argument, you guys are acting like this is a debate in your law class at USC, jesus calm down, its funny to me how hard duplicity is trying to prove his argument when it really isnt changing anyones mind and no one gives a rats ass but him, so yeah, good job, chief.
from kery davis himself:
Kery Davis (HBO) – This will be Gatti’s 20th appearance on HBO, behind only Roy Jones, Lennox Lewis, Shane Mosley, and Oscar de la Hoya . . . Gatti is a terrific fighter. You don’t get to fight 20 times on HBO if you’re not a terrific fighter. You don’t sell tickets the way he does unless you’re a terrific fighter . . . This will be a competitive, exciting fight. When Baldomir fought Judah he had Judah just about running at the end of their bout . . . The bout will be shown after the Mosley-Vargas II replay . . .
