When I first saw Francisco Bojado I thought he woudld be the next DLH. While he is not a slouch, he didn't live up to the incredible hype surrounding him. Does anybody know what happened to "panchito"? Also who are other prospects that didn't pan out in others' opinions?
Hay I am not arguing with anything you are saying but the point is it all amounted really to nothing in the boxing scheam of things. People will remeber him like I mentioned him as being a guy who could have been it that was as close to being it but never became it. Thats all I am saying. Just keep your memories he was a hell of a fighter.
I see what you are saying, i aggree, he could have done so much more in his prime.
I learned about him first on the hbo special. After that i followed him all the way threw he second comback and seen as many of his fights as i could. He made a hell of a run, he was old but looked like one mean sob, still intimidating and looking sharp. I don't know exactly if he went to jail or not, but very messed up if he got sent back, but then again im not sure of all the details of his last troubles.
You are wrong. He could have fought for a title but didn't, instead he wanted to keep fighting and earning his title shot. He made a lot of money in his comback which was succesfull -imo-untill he ran into Ramon "Yori Boy" Campas and he was beating up Campas and Campas was taking it and dishing it out later on in the fight on even terms, then Ayala broke his hand and the fight was stopped. I remember for one fight Ayala made somthing like 600 hundred thousand dollars. He was still a star in the boxing world and in the city/state that he is from. For a fighter that was out of boxing for more then 14 years he had one succesfull comback, had he not gotten in trouble with the law again, he may have continued boxing and surly gotten a title shot.Hay I am not arguing with anything you are saying but the point is it all amounted really to nothing in the boxing scheam of things. Recent ones are Bojado, Ricardo Wiiliams and Marshall Martinez.
Past ones are Mark Breland, Kelcie Banks, Ed Hopson and Jessie Benivides.I forgot about ricardo williams stupid drugslanging dumb ass or somthing like that.
and then he tried to make a come back but nothing came of it. He was old and spend like 16 years in the pen

Easily hands down David Reid. He should've been right up there with Mosley, DLH, etc. Of course, he was determined to fight Trinidad way way too early and his stupid promoters allowed him to do so. Trinidad was like 36-0 and Reid was like 13-0, 14-0. It'd be like Andre Berto today fighting Mayweather.
Remember, Reid was looking terrable at times against ordinary fighters. He was having a tough time with not opponets he was supposed to have no problems with. More or less of the same way Andre Wards career is going/or was going- only Reid was better then Ward. But imo, they rused him cause they were afraid he would lose his next fight, regardless of opponet.
Bojado has to be the biggest waste of talent seen in a while.
Kid had all the tools except a mind of his own. He had hand speed, power, technique, balance, and sound defence. He just needed to be able to say ok I got this guy ill put em away not wait and wait and wait for his trainer to tell him to do it.
Sorry but Abdulaev was better than Bojado, seems like he even beat Cotto in the Olympics (maybe not, I don't remember who he beat right now, so I'm likely wrong on that), but Abdulaev got beat up and quit against Cotto. I like Bojado but I never see him really beating Cotto. Don't see him quitting either.
Edit: Abdulaev was the one that beat Cotto, thought so:
As amateurs, Abdulaev eliminated Cotto from the first round of the 2000,Sydney Olympics. - wikipedia
sorry but cotto would destroy bojado ...
if you've seen alot of Bojado's fights, even all his earlier fights, its clear and easy to see that he is much more skilled than Cotto. He wont beat him now but if he comes back and focuses and dedicates himself he would easily beat Cotto.
Bojado was easily the next Delahoya. He had all the tools. He's marketable ( good lookin ) he had awsome skills, he was fast, quick on his feet, power and most of all he was young. He's making a comeback and if his head is on straight he can be world champion. A few fights to get back in to things and I shouldn't see any reason why he cant beat guys like Cotto , Hatton and Judah. Bojado is the real deal. He's just got other issues right now.
well you are a fan to the bitter end. you're right, he's still got time. now he's just got a MUCH tougher road than he would have if he had just applied himself more when everyone cared about him. Now that virtually nobody cares about him, it'll be tough. He was more raw in the ring than DLH, I'd think of him as the next Vargas more than the next DLH based on styles.

i agree that reid could of been a great fighter but his promoters were not stupid they knew that he was to in-expirienced to be in there with tito but they were looking out for him ....they knew that do to the condition of his left eye he was not going to have a long career so they decided to set him in a million dollar fight even though he would probablly loose atleast this way he would be financially set , before the condition got worst and he might not be able to get that payday.. bojado and grant are also very good mentions.
I highly disagree. The eye got profoundly worse because of this fight. Would he have still had a short career? Maybe, or maybe the eye would've had more of a chance without the hardest hitting mofo for weight classes around punching the hell out of it.
Million dollar payday? They were looking out for themselves. Cause Reid would've only gotten about 17% of any purse anyhow, at the very most.
And yeah ultimately I do realize it was Reid's decision to get in the ring against Trinidad, so he is ultimately to blame. But he was very young and I don't think anybody should've let him in there at that stage. With 6-10 more fights under him, he might've gotten enough experience to perhaps wreck Trinidad's china chin and finish him off, or at least had a good decision victory over him. Or at the very least, what is most important, protected that eye better and not taken all the damage he did.
Tony Ayala jr was supposed to be the real deal until he went to jail he was considered thee sure thing.
